Snake relies on camping, not aerials.

Without his infinites, Dedede would have to rely on his edgeuarding to kill, which plenty of characters do better than him.

poster

He's still a very good character without the infinites.

Falco's recovery still sucks.

poster

Worse in Melee.

Marth and Meta Knight are the biggest obstacles in the top-tier for most characters, and it's not like either are unstoppable. Both lack projectiles and are lightweight. About comparable to Marth and Shiek in Melee, not to mention that most low-tier characters are still much improved from the low tier in Melee. It's pretty close, I'd say.

poster

I'll give you being lightweight, but Metaknight can still camp effectively, he's one of the gayest ledgestallers in the game. Seriously, just give up, Melee is more balanced, plain and simple. And I'm getting tired of argueing, but one more thing before I go.

I respect Nintendo a lot. Both for their past, and the present with the Wii. I also respect the other two companies, although not as much as Nintendo, because they're much newer than Nintendo. I laugh at people who hate Nintendo as much as you do. I'll let people have their own opinions, so I'll let it go if people say they don't like Nintendo, as long as they don't treat those opinions as facts, and take it as far as saying that people who do respect Nintendo should have their ass kicked. :|

Anyway, the Wii does something different. It's not for everybody. In fact, most of the great games (and yes, they are great) are niche games, not meant for everybody. Those niche games do a lot for this gen IMO, so that it goes great with my 360, and will go great with my future DS, PSP, and PS3. All those, IMO, do an amazing job at covering all my basic needs as a gamer (and that includes past experiences, with the consoles' BC, and the Wii's VC), and the Wii is very important for that great experience, allowing me to play very unique games like Trauma Center, de Blob, Mario Galaxy, and a number of other very good, and very fun games.

edit: I know that I didn't list many games there, and 2 of the games are 3rd party. Before anybody comments on that, it's more of a mixture of my laziness (I didn't want to list all the games I want and/or have for the Wii, and just listed my 3 favorites), stupidity (I really should have focused more on first party, since this is a thread about Nintendo), and wanting to show that Nintendo has both a great first party, and support of some very good 3rd party games (even if not everybody would agree with that). Anyway, the point still stands that I have a lot of respect for Nintendo, both as a console maker and a game maker.

Snake relies on camping, not aerials.

So he isn't going to put himself there. Knock him into the air, and don't let him come down for too long. I personally don't find Snake a problem, but then I'm a ROB main.

He's still a very good character without the infinites.

Not top-tier.

Worse in Melee.

No way that's true. Either way, it's still his weakness.

I'll give you being lightweight, but Metaknight can still camp effectively, he's one of the gayest ledgestallers in the game. Seriously, just give up, Melee is more balanced, plain and simple.

I find that hard to accept, as I mained Mewtwo back in Melee. But even if it is, you have to admit it's close.

The Wii is nothing like the NES. Not even close.

KingsofQueens

You also probably think the Wii is nothing like Mini steel mills that use electric smelters, or like transistor radios. The Wii is exactly like those things. Nintendo toppled the industry twenty years ago, and they'll do it again.

The BIGGEST difference is 20+ years ago, they were all about Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong and (obtaining) 3rd party support.

NOW, Nintendo is all about Wii music, Wii play Wii sports, their disgusting E3 2008 Press conference and the non-gaming casuals.

Gamers 20 years ago learned the Hard Way in gaming. Contra anyone? Grab the NES control pad, and hope to God you make it though the levels WITHOUT that 30up Code. 8)

Today, these non-gaming casuals are learning the Easy Way in gaming. Wii Sports anyone? Just grab a Wiimote and swing away! Better yet grab a Wiiboard and dodge incoming soccer balls with your head

Are you serious?!? Nintendo 20+ years ago was about the NES Zapper, Rob the TV Robot, and Family Fun, as well as trying to beat established encumbants in a market that considered console games to be a dead fad, as opposed to mini-computers (which the PS3 and 360 basically are).

What you're talking about is Nintendo about 17 or 18 years ago, once the NES had become well established in North America.

Tsug_Ze_Wind

A game sets out to create an interactive experience through graphics, sound, story etc... that's its defining feature that's what makes a game a game, not sales.

EDIT: If sales is what games set out to do then that way of thinking would not work for free games, such as flash games and others.

Their console is selling the most with the least amount of quality games.

Would you honestly give them respect for that?

SpinoRaptor24
It's clear that you obviously have the wrong definition of quality. Only the majority can define quality, the minority can only define elitism.

Nintendo still has my respect because their's is the only platform where I can play a significant amount of games I haven't played before. Sure, the other big name games may have new characters, graphics, and gimmicks, but for the most part they're the same games we've been playing for many years. Only on the Wii can you get a large library of games that you will have never played before.

Man, I just don't understand why everyone acts like Nintendo isn't putting out hardcore games this generation...

2006: The Wii launches with a new Zelda title, Twilight Princess (AA).

2007: In the Wii's first year, Nintendo releases Metroid Prime 3 (AA) and Super Mario Galaxy (AAA and GotY).

2008: In the Wii's second year, Nintendo releases Super Smash Bros. Brawl (AAA) and Mario Kart Wii (AA).

With the exception of 2006, Nintendo has released two AA+ games that cater to hardcore gamers a year for a total of five AA+ games in two years. Oh yes, Nintendo is definitely not putting out hardcore games this generation.

not at all. I respect nintendo more than anybody else. People didnt support them when they were producing excellent games (gc, n64 era), they had to do sth to survive... now they are bigger than ever before, breaking all boundaries and bringing video gaming to all kinds of people.

Nintendo always had a special place in my heart. That sounds a bit dramatic:P (I know they're a buisness like so many others). But it's pretty much my childhood we're talking about, they're the ones that got me into gaming with the NES.

Heck, I owned almost every Nintendo home console up untill the Wii which I haven't bought..yet. I always expect great things from them. So far the Wii has delivered some gems and I will buy one when the next Zelda comes out. By that time I'll have a big back catalog of games to play.

Nintendo is probably my most respected gaming company.

At the moment i'd say that I probably use my xbox the most, but Nintendo will always have my heart when it comes to gaming.

The DS and the Wii just make me respect them even more.

Nintendo definitely has my respect, and Microsoft and Sony have it as well. In my opinion, nintendo deserves the most respect out of the three. Super Mario Galaxy is a perfect example of why nintendo deserves respect. It still has all of the characters, enemies, settings, and charm that people love from old mario games, yet at the same time it reinvents the genre to feel totally new. The ontrol is perfect. It doesn't rely too much on motion control, but the motion control it does have feels just right, and is used effectively for certain things, but is not overused or tacked on. Obviously wii is not capable of the same visuals of other systems, but galaxy still looks impressive despite this. I feel that nintendo is including casuals without abandoning more experienced gamers. Take Mario Kart Wii, for example. I'm glad that it allows for a variety of control. People who are used to using a video game controller can use the classic or gamecube controllers, while people who are new to games can use the wheel, which is easy to learn and does a really good job of immersing 'casuals' into the game. As for me, i'm perfectly content playing mario with my gamecube controller. Gamecube was the only console I did not own last gen, and now that I can play cube games that I've missed, I'm beginning to think that gamecube was underrated. Also, I respect any console that gets serious playtime from my girlfriend, who had never even touched a video game since super nintendo.

they still have my respect they've only got limited resources .. can't keep churning out quality titles month after month we got zelda TP at launch, and SSBB and SMG have been amazing games we'll surely get more quality, it'll just take time the wii doesn't have enough good games to be my only console .. i have a 360 and PS3 as well so that i can play all the exclusives i like but that's not preuly nintendo's fault .. the 360 and PS3 are helped by 3rd party titles the wii doesn't have the same quality, probably due to the wii's weaker hardware, but nintendo had to make that decision because they're a business .. if they had an uber-poweful console like the others, they wouldn't have made as much money from them (if any) and the current economic meltdown might have had a disasterous effect on them just be patient nintendo fans .. we'll hopefully get f-zero, star fox, kid icarus, pikmin, more mario, zelda and metroid etc .. it'll just take time! that might mean letting the wii gather dust for a while, but you can't totally blame nintendo

[QUOTE="Tsug_Ze_Wind"] So other people's opinion? It's time for these sources to stop having so much sway over people's opinions. Most of 'em are paid off anyway.

opex07

Those other peoples opinion are held to a higher regard than some random person, but it shouldn't really even matter, any reasonable person can see that the Wii doesn't have the same amount of quality games as the other systems due to the fact that it misses out on almost all of the multiplats, and blockbuster titles.

The wii was in fact made so it wouldn't have to get to get the same games. Why are people talking about muilt games on 360/PS3 when in fact we talk about ecxlusive last gen?

Hmm...funny question. Am I mad at them for wanting to make tons of money and expand their audience ten-fold? No, no I'm not, and it's understandable for a company to do that. This is a business, after all, and let us not forget that the console still has great games for the "core" audience. No, they aren't the same Nintendo, but as long as I get my zelda, metroid, mario, *insert random nintendo franchise here*, etc every couple of years, I'll be happy. The in-between time gives me time to play my 360.

HOWEVER, I have lost respect for Nintendo. Why? For some reason, Nintendo feels the urge to suddenly "pull a sony" and pick on the little guy. Essentially, stomping on the little guys, to be more blunt. At least Lik-Sang was a fairly big website with lots of traffic though; Nintendo is threatening to shutdown Ghosteo.net, an extremely small website made up of an even smaller group of people. Nintendo wants to shut them down for creating the brawl skin hacks; the ones some of you might have seen on the internet as Dark Samus, Fierce Diety Link, Shadow the Hedgehog, etc. These were made through a Mod Chip Hacked Wii.

Nintendo's argument is that if they can hack character textures, what's stopping them from pirating games? And while I get it, I don't see the reasoning behind targeting a group of obviously dedicated FANS, while maybe they could instead be targeting the actual people who pirate games. Like Staindgrey mentioned over on the website Allisbrawl, let's take a look at Red VS. Blue. A group of dedicated fans, Rooster Teeth, started a machinima about a game they loved, and what happened? Bungie didn't sue them, but instead endorsed them. Red VS Blue ran for 5 seasons, with another one in the works currently, and Bungie even uses the popular characters from the series to promote new downloads via XboxLive. Rooster Teeth can even sell Merchandise using Halo's character designs. In turn, Halo gains essentially free advertisement to a rather wide-ranging audience: The internet.

As Staindgrey says at the end of his intriguing read, Nintendo, you suck. Stop picking on your fans; All they're doing is trying to make the game more enjoyable for other people who want their character to look different. Shutting down Ghosteo.net is like putting your child in a stranglehold.

(But I'm a tool and will still buy your games....-_-...)

the irony is that. when nintendo only made first party games for the N64 wich was 3 times better then the ps1 no one buyed the console.

and while ps2 had more shovelware then a whole toys"r"us store, no on seemed to care, so why care for wiis shovel ware?

the anwser is simpel. but the good games, and throw way the bad ones.

if you think about it. the wii is the new ps2.

Nintendo definitly still has my respect, they just aren't getting any of my money. Nintendo's new direction is a genius move to be honest. Games as a medium got huge this generation, it hit mainstream attention in a big way and got alot of people playing games that never did. This industry needed a company to fill the Disney-like void that videogames was missing. Think about it, a company that focuses on making products the whole family can enjoy. They have something similar in TV, Music, and Movies. Who would've thought videogames would be no different.

My stance is the games they are making now are not aimed for me. I don't play games with my family and i'm certainly no longer a child. If I enjoy some of the products that they do put out, good for me, but it isn't Nintendo's fault if alot of the stuff they put out isn't enjoyed by me because it wasn't aimed at me. As a gamer, my overall tastes in games and things I look for in them has matured, and no that doesn't mean it has to have a bloodbath in it. It means I have grown to like things in games that Nintendo just doesn't do, nor should they because again their games aren't aimed at me.

I don't see why they should, they have completely abandoned their fanbase in order to make money. Anyone who defends their actions needs an ass kicking. Even worse they are having a negative effect on gaming. Gimmicks like Wii fit and casual games that took 6 months to make like Mario Kart Wii, regularly outselling games like MGS and Gears, developers will begin to question why should they make next gen games pushing hardware to the limit when they can make a game the whole family will play and it will sell 3 times better.Ohyeas
Lets get this straight companies couldnt give a damm whether they have some losers respect or not ,only that their products sell.

No respect from me. Going into gamespot near me, they have all the wii and ds games near the front of the store and the rest in the back. Whenever I go there on the weekend you will see parents with swarms of kids circling around them , and they all go togeather. I couldn't beleive it, there were around 20 people in gamestop but only 3 people were making the purchases. It feels really backwards...sony bought gaming out of the kid zone with ps1 and nintendo is trying to bring it back. It almost feels like there should be a curtian in the store with a sign: Adults only for the playstion - xbox stuff in the rest of the store. What you are seeing in these stores is vast difference in demographics....wii= kids, you kids, grandma, and teens without a job. PS3/360/ps2/psp = hardcore gamers, Gamers who are fanatical about the quailty of there games and this group takes it seriously.

Let's just say I used to be the biggest and most stubborn Nintendo-only fanboy but I'm not anymore.

They lost my respect after the E3 08 Press Conference. It was utterly pathetic and an insult to the hardcore gamer.

[QUOTE="opex07"][QUOTE="Tsug_Ze_Wind"] So other people's opinion? It's time for these sources to stop having so much sway over people's opinions. Most of 'em are paid off anyway.

fbigent34

Those other peoples opinion are held to a higher regard than some random person, but it shouldn't really even matter, any reasonable person can see that the Wii doesn't have the same amount of quality games as the other systems due to the fact that it misses out on almost all of the multiplats, and blockbuster titles.

The wii was in fact made so it wouldn't have to get to get the same games. Why are people talking about muilt games on 360/PS3 when in fact we talk about ecxlusive last gen?

It's all they have left...

Why shouldn't they? They have removed so many barries and niché when it comes to gaming, and it's not their fault that the 3rd party hardware is nothing but cash ins. Only a handful of games was made with care and acceptance of the system.

Anyway when you really look at Nintendo and nothing else they haven't stopped maked great games. No scratch that. They still make some of the best games in the bussiness. Super Mario Galaxy is a prime example of that. Maybe the system don't appeal to me and perhaps they've taken sight on a new generation of gamers, but I'm not left out since I still can enjoy my 360 and PC and root for Nintendo at the same time.

[QUOTE="Rocky32189"][QUOTE="Eyezonmii"]Nintendo have lost it, nothing but casual shovelware and kids games....YUCK! Nintendo could have balanced it and pleased everyone but NOOOOOO. Stubborn SOB's. Eyezonmii
So, you are blaming Nintendo for the actions of third parties? Or do you really think Mario Galaxy is shovelware?

1 game....WOW! among a few others....obviously not everything is..i was implying the majority IS!

Nintendo has released four different games this gen: Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, and Wii Music. This only makes up a small portion of the lineup. Everything else is the same stuff that they've putting out for decades.

To all the uninformed idiots that are saying "Nintendo have not released any good core games on the Wii", here comes the list. 2006: -The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (8.8/10) -Wii Sports (7.8/10) 2007: -WarioWare: Smooth Moves (9.1/10) -Super Paper Mario (8.8/10) -Metroid Prime 3 (8.5/10) -Super Mario Galaxy (9.5/10 & GOTY) 2008: -Endless Ocean (7/10) -Wii Fit (7/10) -Super Smash Bros. Brawl (9.5/10) -Mario Kart Wii (8.5/10) -Wario Land: Shake it (7.5/10) They have released a total of 4 casual games for the Wii. Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play and Wii Music. They have released a total of 9 'core' games. Next year they have already announced 5 'core' games for the Wii. Punchout!!, Fatal Frame IV, Sin and Punishment 2, Dynamic Slash, and Cosmic Walker, notice how none of these are their most important franchises and they have many more to release. The only casual game they are releasing is Wii Sports: Resort which is the last in the line of 'Wii ________' games. I excluded all the DS games which they released, which is a lot. I also excluded the VC and WiiWare releases such as Tetris Party, Dr. Mario and Super Mario RPG. Nintendo deserves respect. However, save your pity, they do not respect from blind fanboys found here.
