I was just doing some quick thinking on this subject and realized, at the end of a gen is the top game always Nintendo made?

Some quick examples going backwards:

This gen= Super Mario Galaxy (so far)

Last gen= Metroid Prime (my opinion, many other ppl I've talked toand a few other web sites including IGN)

N64/PS1 gen= Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (don't really need to explain this one)

I could keep going backwards but I don't think its really necessary to make my point.......

I know it is 100% based on preference I was just curious to see how many gamers (from all 4 corners) would agree with me?

So what do ya think? If you dissagree with just 1 game click no and feel free to explain what game you thinkwon that gen (or is winning) and why?

Yep, goes way back to the days of the arcade (Donkey kong) and atari (Donkey Kong) and Nes (SMB3) and SNES (DKC) and n64 (OoT) and last gen (SSBB) and this gen of course (the next zelda game)

the last time they did the best game for a gen it was when yoshi island came out for snes, so it's been a while, after that it was final fantasy 9, gta san andreas and for this gen so far it's infamous, obviously it's my own personal taste

Usually. Doesnt matter how small and crappy their line-up winds up being that gen, they always pull 1 masterpiece out their asses.

I would definitely agree with this statement. Of course, this just my personal preference. While wii might have an overall library that is much weaker than 360/PS3 due to the lack of ps3/360/PC multiplats, Wii has my favorite exclusives hands down. Nintendo's first party titles are usually top notch.

Lol, one of the reasons I was afraid to name the best game from the Snes era is because I know are so many choices and people have their own favorite, however its usually a Ninty franchise (star fox, mario, zelda, donkey kong country, earthbound, mario kart, ect).

If I had to pick one (between my own personal opinion and game critics) it would be between Chrono Trigger and A Link to the Past.

I'd go with ALTTP :)

Between Wii Fit, Wii Music, and Wii Play, I would have to agree.

Nintendo don't stop making GOTG (GAME OF THE GENERATION)!

I don't think anyone would disagree that METROID PRIME was THE GAME OF LAST GEN, or that SUPER MARIO GALAXY is THE GAME OF THIS GEN.

You got it spot on the nose!

Hard to argue with their resume. Obviously down to individual preference, but by and large Nintendo always draws a killer ap each gen.

This explains it. The GC had a lot of lower level Nintendo games. Then Metroid Prime came and saved the day. It was the highest rated game of last gen. This gen, Galaxy is the best exclusive by a whole 3 % (it goes back and forth with GTA for 2nd all the time, since they are so close. But that game is sooo over rated, everyone knows it doesn't really count anyways.) OOT nuff said. Super Mario World for SNES. Nes...do i really have to give an example? And Donkey Kong for Arcade.

lol embarassingly poor logic

anyway, id disagree, but its only recently that they have dropped the ball. 8 and 16 bit era they were money with smb3/link to the past or yoshis island, and though i dont really even like the game, its hard to dispute the legacy of oot. but they got blown up in the gc gen. metroid prime was sexy but certainly not the sexiest game of the generation. this gen aside from galaxy, they havent produced much that was noteworthy.

Only if we're talking in terms of the console-only bubble SW has a nasty habit of using, and even then I'd say the best game of this gen (thus far, obviously) is Mass Effect and last gen was either KOTOR or Halo: CE.

N64 = SM64/OoT/MM

GC = SSBM/MP/WW

Wii = SMG

Nonsense, Nintendo always manages to steal the show with a masterpiece that no one expects. Ocarina of Time, Metroid Prime, SMG.

They always manage to crunch one out of the park further than anyone else each gen.

SMG best game of this gen? Lol.....

Best title of what Wii can manage to offer yeah pretty much, but I can think of at least one title on each system that's better than it.

I think there were games better tha OoT and Metroid Prime in their respective generations, sometimes on the same system. For example, I find Resident Evil on the gamecube to be a better game overall than Metroid Prime. It's the only game I'd give a perfect 10. As for OoT, there were better games released for other systems (despite being from different genres as well) that bring more to the table than OoT did. I find Ookami to be a much better game than Nintendo's TP last gen as well. As for this gen, I'm pretty sure there will be games better than SMG if there are not already.

Aside from the 16 bit era and last gen (a toss up between Prime and Halo for me), I agree. Without a doubt though, Nintendo always makes generation defining games.

Pretty much. You can argue if their are the best overall or not but they definitely always pull some gems. Though this gen they have been pretty slow in comparison to others.

Unless there's a megaton in the next few years, Grand Theft Auto IV will go down as the best/greatest game of this gen, whether or not you agree. I don't agree, but I did enjoy the game quite a lot. The 6th gen king is probably Resident Evil 4. 5th gen is definitely Ocarina of Time. It's always settled with a vote. So no.

I would say yes. This Generation Metroid Prime 3, SMG, Zelda, and Smash Bros have all been amazing. Nintendo always has a few amazing games that really put them over the top.

The other systems overall have better libraries but Nintnedo still manages to have a few amazing games.

Funny how you were saying Muramasa was 'shallow' even though you've never played it and now you're saying you like Okami and it's combat is very simplistic.

I said that the review gave the impression that it was Odin Sphere without the depth.

Ookami is really a different ballgame.

That is complete and utter BS.

1. I own 2 Sony consoles (both PS2), 2 Nintendo consoles, and 2 SEGA consoles. I am an equal oportunity gamer.

2. If I did own a Wii, Muramasa would be at the top of my list.

3. Nintendo does do good things and I am interested in Mario and Pikmin games for the Wii. But I am not about to go spend money on the system when I already own 6 consoles and will soon own a 7th that has a much better 3rd party library.

Without a doubt, review-score wise.

Ths is my main reason for having the 360/Wii combination ... the 360 gives you all the multiplats and exclusives, the Wii gives you great Nintendo titles.

Sure Nintendo could release more of these quality games, but their few great games warrant a purchase (I just love Nintendo franchises :P )

They do seem to do it but its all about opinion in the end but the critics do seem to think so.
