kinda yes. SMG is arguably the best game this gen...but there are others that are on par.
Either way they can still pull out a master piece here andthtere when they aren't working on casual crap.
They do hit the home run every generation, but more recently with great games on the other concoles it's hard to argu that they are best. From a critic standpoint shurely, but based on the posts in this thread, others have their prefernces.
definitely no.........
Judging the 3 TC mentioned:
Metroid Prime was quite boring to me. Think I completed 25-50% of it and lost interest.
Zelda? Uhh, Actually that was at least a contender for best game of the gen.
SMG? Honestly, I think people were a bit too "OMG IT'S SUPER MARIO!!!!!!!ONEONEONE" about it. It's good. It's really good, but it has it's flaws.
I was just doing some quick thinking on this subject and realized, at the end of a gen is the top game always Nintendo made?
Some quick examples going backwards:
This gen= Super Mario Galaxy (so far)
Last gen= Metroid Prime (my opinion, many other ppl I've talked toand a few other web sites including IGN)
N64/PS1 gen= Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (don't really need to explain this one)
I could keep going backwards but I don't think its really necessary to make my point.......
I know it is 100% based on preference I was just curious to see how many gamers (from all 4 corners) would agree with me?
So what do ya think? If you dissagree with just 1 game click no and feel free to explain what game you thinkwon that gen (or is winning) and why?

Why is Super Mario Galaxy the best this gen? Just because you think so? It's neither the highest scoring nor even the best in gameplay. Sure, it won GOTY, but so did Oblivion and MGS4. Oblivion and MGS4 scored higher than Mario Galaxy here. You seem to have a pretty narrow definition of 'best games'. Your list are basically Nintendo exclusives.

Maybe you should double-read the OP.
[QUOTE="dont-read-this"]No way in hell, there are always much better games.ThunderdroneNice name Thank you, I was first planning on "dont-look-at-this-chicken" and having a chicken as my avatar, but gamespot didn't let me.
Galaxy best game this gen? It wasn't even the best game when it came out.
Bioshock
GTA4
MGS4
All of which easily take the throne. Get real. Last Gen it was either GTA or RE4, neither of which were made by Nintendo.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - highest rated game of the fifth generation
Metroid Prime - highest rated game of the sixth generation
Super Mario Galaxy - highest rated game of the seventh generation
Nintendo does always make the best game of every generation, or at least the highest rated game of every generation. They know their craft rather well. I commend them for it.
Considering it is entirely opinion, I would disagree wholeheartedly... especially in the face of Shadow of the Colossus. Prime and Echoes were fantastic, but nothing, absolutely nothing tops Shadow of the Colossus.
And this gen so far, it is either Dead Rising, Mass Effect or Mirror's Edge. Galaxy to me is a big "meh." One of the biggest "mehs" I've ever encountered. I had more fun playing Sunshine.
I disagree, Sony makes the best games and their first party titles have gotten better each generation. It's not that Ninty doesn't make great games it's just that most of their games don't appeal to me, opinion ofcourse. Sony's 1st party is diverse and just plain awesome, from Motorstorm Pacific Rift to Uncharted etc. I can't wait till GOW3 and Last Guardian :D
Hmmm, while its not my opinion heres how IGN has the top games from last gen listed:
1. Rome: Total War (PC)
2. ICO (PS2)
3. Burnout 3 (PS2)
4. Half Life 2 (PC)
5. Halo (XB)
I guess I can see why people would go with a list like this, I know a lot of my freinds would!
My top five last gen would look something like this:
1. Metroid Prime (GC)
2. Resident Evil 4 (GC)
3. Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2)
4. Half Life 2 (PC)
5. Halo (PC)
I had more fun playing Sunshine.foxhound_foxyou gotta be kidding me you had more fun cleaning up crap than galaxy?
Top Games on Gamerankings: - Zelda Ocarina of Time(97.63) - Super Mario Galaxy(97.28) - Super Mario World(96.70) - Metroid Prime(96.26) Yes, Nintendo has dominated 5 generations(3rd Gen being the Original Super Mario Bros) in a row as Game of the Generation. The scores speak for themselves.nintendog66Um... we have opinions ya know. I don't care what reviewers say, because honestly i didn't really like Ocarina all that much... or really any of those... except Galaxy. While it is not GOTY in my eyes, it is still a good game

true, but this is SW. your own opinion means little here.... review scores apparently are the only things matter

again I'm sensing a "hating on the game because it's on the wii" bandwagon going on here

Lets just say that objectively...the game is inferior to SMG in almost every respect. *aside from difficulty and level size*
Lets just say that objectively...ShinobishyguyYou can not say it objectively. You like it more or not. Subjectivity at its best.

For my opinion, Nintendo does not make the best game each gen overall. For their platforms, maybe, but not overall. Last gen went to either God of War, Halo, or Half-Life 2. This gen, it probably belongs to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, or probably Galaxy. I know the best game of the N64/PS1 era belonged to Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Both your opinion and my opinion are equally valid
you know what screw it. let's just leave it at that.I almost agree, close enough though.
Sure, Half Life beats anything they had that gen, but being number one for 4 gens and having a runner up (Oot) for one gen ain't to bad. Also Banjo Kazooie is my second runner up, Goldeneye my third and Super Mario 64 my fourth for that gen.
As for other gens SMB 3 is a no brainer for me. And the only thing I think really rivaled Zelda lttp is SM World, giving nintendo the two best games of that gen.The other gens are tougher though.. But the last two gens are much tougher, but I really loved SMG and MP was quite awesome (Eternal darkness ain't too bad either)
Yeah i think they always made my top 3 titles per gen or they were exclusive to their platforms. Quite amazing.
I'd agree with that.
NES:SMB3
SNES:SMW
N64:OoT and Star Fox64
GCN:WW/MP
Wii: This part I can't agree with. Wii has some great games, but they don't compare to the PS3. They do beat the crap out of 360 games though.

LBP and MGS4 are mind blowing games imo!
I dont own a PS3 but I own those two games! Their just to ggod!
Well it's certainly a matter of opinion/taste, but they certainly have a stronger case than any other one dev/publisher.
