They might not be 100% accurate though.
They were last month and the month before that (100% the same as NPD). There are guys that get the ACTUAL numbers then leak it on vgcharts forums. vgcharts then takes the numbers and changes/inflates them so they are not the same as NPD and they include "all" of North America.

Rumors are and predictions by firms and such that the numbers will be SOMETHING like this
Wii = 350,000-400,000
360 = 275,000
PS3 = 200,000
PS2 = 300,000
Keep in mind these are estimates and what people think based off of preliminary data. Basically they think that Wii is take the crown with the 360 outselling the PS3 but being outsold by the PS2.

they should brag with games and not numbers. sales does not mean the consoles has great games.
But guess what happens with sales. Sales means MORE GAMES and better games since your console is doing better.  Look at what happened to the PS2 it got so many more games.  So THAT is why people brag about sales because sales lead to games.Â
