Do you by chance happen to play the ps3 hard core like? Do you ever play it for 6 or 8 hours from time to time? I used to play my ps3 for 4 or more hours on occasion and I think that had something to do with my ps3 getting ylod.

No, I play it for like 2-3 hours at a time. But can you give us some proof of this YLOD?

Does it? It can. Hasn't happened to me. But I've had more than enough PS3 problems recently for me to call it an unreliable piece of poo--at least my PS3 at least. *shrugs*

What.....you mean like actual pictures or put a video up on youtube? Your talking to a poor gamer here. I have a laptop, a broken ps3 and a ps2.

I am a poor gamer that is looking for a cheap yet reliable way to get back into current gen gaming.

I guess if I fixed the ps3 that would give me 3 months at least and probably a good 6 months with no problems and if something did happen to it again then I would just send it back in for more repairs as I figure this time next year retail ps3 will drop another $50 or $100 and lower the price of sony fixing the ps3.

Believe it or not I still got the dam receipt for this thing and I'm using the ps3 as a paper weight for it. I have had the receipt in the same place for a couple of years now. Luckily the ink is still readable on the receipt.

There hasnt been any reports of any PS3 Slims getting the YLOD. The PS3 slims seem to be more reliable than the already reliable fat PS3s (although the 60gb and 20gb fat ones arent)

Do you have a ps3 slim?

Yes, I do.

Then it looks like refurbrished 360 at gamestop for $110 with a $20 one year warranty with no live is the best and most reliable option for me. I may even have faith in my 360 after one year to not get another warranty for it seeing as I could get my ps3 fixed by sony at probably an even cheaper price by that point in time.

So $130 to get back in to current gen gaming for a year.

Probably about $70 or $80 or maybe $100 to get ps3 fixed next year. So thats probably $230 at most but if I get my ps3 fixed today its going to cost $150 up front.

I believe that getting a 360 would ensure that I have a reliable console for an extended period of time for the future. Seeing as I will get a one year warranty for it and if it does well for the first year than it should last for awhile. And I can get my ps3 fixed for an even cheaper price next year to be able to play games online again.

Its a very hard decision for me to make between chooing to play online or reliability.

I've had a Ps3 Slim for 7 months now, playing it daily always for 6-20 hours at a time and I've never had a problem with it.

I just checked the serial numbers on the back of my ps3 with the ones that the lady at sony told me about. I don't think I can even trade in my ps3 any more. The serial numbers don't match with the ones she told me that they would take. I have 20 gig ps3.

I called sony about a day or two ago and asked a lady about trading in a broken fat ps3 for a slim one.

Sony may not even be willing to fix my ps3 any more and may have changed the terms of the contract. Xbox 360 maybe my only option till ps3 drops to $200 retail price.

Oh goodness no, do not buy a refurbished Xbox 360. Buy it brand new. Seriously. Even then my PS3 isn't representative of every Slim out there. Odds are that you'll definitely get a fine working one. Of course, unless you have bad luck like me where as you get two bad PS3s in a row but that's besides the point.

I called the lady up at sony and asked here about the deal and she gave me some serial numbers to check and I just went up stairs and checked my ps3 and the serial numbers don't match. So I'm not sure if I even qualify for the trade in deal.

looks to me like there are reports...side note look at that dudes finger nails...

Like any system they all fail eventually, and some times you get lemons, which is much of what the failure reports of 360 slims were lemons, atleast the legitimate reports...we got like a whole slew of fake reports though.

All of my friends with PS3's had YLOD including the slim owners, however the slim owners didnt get it as many times but they are new PS3 owners... YLOD is near RROD atm maybe more but it isn't as high as the RROD during the beggining of the 360 which while inflated a little was relatively high. I know my 360 has not RROD yet so do not let hardware decide look at games. Imo though you would be better with a 360 if multiplats interest you as both have good exclusives but 360 multiplats are better

I'm sure alll models can get YLOD but it is less likely to break than a 360. Make sure you get the new slim model 2101 and not 2001 as it has a smaller GPU chip. I have 2 80 gb's BC for 2 years and no issues with them. I also have 2 bros that have 80gb's and no problems with them. I do know of a friend though that had a 60gb that YLOD but he left it on the carpeted floor of all places.

You should be ashamed of being a big liar , just because your console is a crap of hardware, you not need to lie so much,
is it so hard for you to admit that the ps3 is much more reliable than the 360

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that Sony left out the yellow LED on the Slim, just like MS left out the Red LEDs from the 360S. So I'm pretty sure it's impossible for the Slim PS3 to get the YLoD. I've never seen my Slim flash yellow like my old Phat did when it was starting.

If it's outside warranty, try re-baking (reflow) your PS3 or give it to me :). (just joking)

i think we can come to the conclusion that every hardware can break but in x360's case, it happened due to the faulty hardware, but in PS3's case, it happens by pure luck.

People need to understand that the yellow light is an indication that the PS3 needs to be serviced, like a check engine light for a car. It doesn't mean every PS3 that gets the yellow light is suffereing from the same malfunctions. You should look online to try and figure out which case is yours bacuse some can be fixed by just replacing parts, like the built in power adaptor.

The 60/20/80gb all use the most power of all ps3 units as they have a larger chipsets. (they also produce the most heat)

After heating and cooling and heating up and cooling down over 2 years the lead free BGAs begin to crack (solder balls connecting cpu and gpu to mother board). This causes ylod

Can be fixed by DIY re-baking (or "reflowing") the PS3's motherboard.

People need to stop calling it the YLOD cause it implies that it's the same malfunction every time it occurs.

People need to understand that the yellow light is an indication that the PS3 needs to be serviced, like a check engine light for a car. It doesn't mean every PS3 that gets the yellow light is suffereing from the same malfunctions. You should look online to try and figure out which case is yours bacuse some can be fixed by just replacing parts, like the built in power adaptor.Tyrant156

It probably means general hardware error when hardware it self can't figure whats wrong and it fails to boot. As i seen YLOD are fixed by heating chipsets, this simply mean some solid connections on chipset BGA is not contacting (cold solid + heat = break)

Yes it can.

Well all 9 of my friends with them have had the YLOD... are you saying that the YLOD is rare?...

Gxgear

I find that extremely hard to believe, got any proof?

Only his words. This is the interweb after all.

If all his friends are early adopters I believe it. I have gotten ylod and so have 2 of my friends. (its becoming increasingly popular among early adopters)

People need to stop calling it the YLOD cause it implies that it's the same malfunction every time it occurs.

90 percent of the time it is the same prob.

Ive heard people fixing it by replacing their power adapter or removing the HDD so it reformats. I'm just saying people assume that the YLOD is caused by the same system error and it's not.

Actually it's not, people just assume it is and sends it in to be fixed. They probably never know what caused the malfunction just that they got a yellow flashing light.

I've had my PS3 slim running 24/7 (playing games/Life with Playstation) ever since I got it last April '10 and never had any issues or anything especially overheating.
