Sony's biggest name IP is Gran Turismo, GT5 is easily going to sell 10,000,000.00 copies by the time the PS3 is phased out.
Gears is bigger than anything Nintendo has outside Mario. Its a huge franchise that gets tons of coverage in mainstream media and gets debut commercials during BCS championship games and stuff like that. Its not far behind Halo/COD/GTA. Now tell me what Nintendo franchise is really mainstream outside the Nintendo bubble? Would a Zelda commercial ever air during a football game? Doubt it. Even Mario at this point is just selling to kids and soccer moms.JohnnyCageMK
Mariokart Wii outsold every Gears game combined. I know sales aren't everything but jesus. If we're talking about how iconic the franchise I dont see that either. Gears is a generic shooter and will be forgotten as soon as the new big thing shows up

Mario games outsell everything. What's your point? Doesn't change the fact Gears is more popular than Zelda.True. There are a lot of titles that have "longer legs" than Halo, but the initial wave , or frenzy of attention Halo gets seems unmatched.Seems like its closest rival is COD.Sony's biggest name IP is Gran Turismo, GT5 is easily going to sell 10,000,000.00 copies by the time the PS3 is phased out.

Mario games outsell everything. What's your point? Doesn't change the fact Gears is more popular than Zelda. I agree with that. Nintendo has run Zelda into the ground. The games are fun for Zelda fans but not the mainstream. I just noticed that "outside mario" bit of your post btw. If we're going with that limitation, I should point out that Wiisports Resort also outsold the entire Gears series.COD is huge on all systems. In fact, its so huge that some cows in SW are treating it like a PS3 exclusive since they have a scrub fall line up. I know plenty of people who are getting this and quitting COD altogether because its a tired franchise that needs a complete overhaul. But I guess if you were a COD kid than thats probably all you play and thats probably all your friends play so in your little world of gaming Halo is nothing and COD is teh bestest everz!Lol halo franchise is a dying franchise most of the 360 owners are not even looking forward it anymore whenever i ask someone if he is getting halo 4 he says no im getting the new cod

so much hype...that no1 i know...none of my friends... have even talked about it... so much hype...that i still havnt even seen an ad on tv... so much hype... that eb games and other retailers havnt painted their walls with halo on it..campzorCan't diagree with the first part, but the 2nd I saw during Sons of Anarchy, the MLB playoffs, and a few other things.
Halo is good, is just that it became terribly overrated by the Americans just like Gran Turismo on Europe. COD definitely has more hype than any other game due to its universal appeal. Xbox version sells huge in America and PS3 version sells the most in the rest of the world.
So Nintendo has any game with Mario in it and Sony has GT.

I see Halo 4 commercials every day multiple times a day. Having a bank roll like MS allows that. LOL EB games, didnt Gamestop buy all those out?

Kinda, it was more of social experiment to see if I could blend into the cow community. All I had to do was through out a few butthurt and jelly comments and they accepted me with open arms. Their standards are very low.I hope halo flops and gets an 8.5 so all the lems here can go into hiding.Ghost120xWish in one hand and sh1t in the other then let me know which happens first.
[QUOTE="charizard1605"]Lol. Nintendo has so many more that are on an entirely different level than Halo. Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart... The question is, what does Microsoft have that's at that same level?JohnnyCageMKHalo is way more popular than Zelda. Gears is too now. Nintendo has Mario. That's it. Legend of Zelda isn't even the second most popular Nintendo franchise. It's Mario and Pokemon, and Pikachu is a bigger mascot than most of Sony's franchises combined.
lol nintendo has mario zelda ssb wii line pokemon fzero 1080
wave race starfox kid icaris pikmin donkey kong kirby mario party wario land /micro
punchout fortube street metroid etc all ms has i can countthem on 1 hand
halo forza gears and fable and crackdown thats wishy washy in comparision to not only the hype pokemon mario ssb mk metroid dk reiceve and they sell alot! all while remaining at 50 a pop
mario's a pretty hardcore guy. when he came out in donkey kong, he had a pet gorilla that he apparently beat and it escaped so he had to kill it. He constantly desecrates the dead, as seen in any SM game. I think he had to do community service in SM sunshine. He has murdered all of Bowser's children in the name of Vag. He spits fire, which must be caused by consuming high proof alcohol (he's a plumber so you know he's an alchy) he's a bit of a mushroom junky too. the guy from Halo is just a Jar Head.
I hope halo flops and gets an 8.5 so all the lems here can go into hiding.Ghost120xWhy? It would make you mad if it scores higher than a 8.5? Just don't feed into that type of fanbotism. I hope the game scores well, if it deserves it. A 8.5 isn't bad anyways.
Well, I have a lot of respect for the marines, so I wouldn't even use that term in a derogatory manner. Halo doesn't have super powers. What he does have his major gaming appeal, whether people will admit it or not.mario's a pretty hardcore guy. when he came out in donkey kong, he had a pet gorilla that he apparently beat and it escaped so he had to kill it. All of them are hyped pretty high and sell as many copies as any Halo game if not more.
That's like asking if Germany has something as popular as Justin Bieber. No, but that's a good thing.kuraimenNope. Way off. It's apparent that you don't care for Microsoft, especially with your sig , but the analogy you used is far off. You seem to be saying that comparing Justin Bieber to Halo, and that Justin Bieber is huge, but not huge over there, so its a good thing. Halo is at the least a solid game. It may not live up to the hype, but to put it into a comparison that would appear to give the impression that people don't like it, or don't care for it, is well of the mark. The majority of the people like it. It may be overrated, but it's still a solid franchise, with mass appeal.

Does either Sony or Nintendo have any single franchise that will match the hype, or anticipation of a Halo entry? I enjoy all the consoles but it just seems like the Halo series is on a whole different level, with the draw, and excitement it creates before release. The only franchise that I think comes close is COD. Now I'm not a big Halo fanatic and I actually enjoy the campaign better than I do the multiplayer, but there's no denying its blockbuster attention, and mass appeal. So what games do you guys/gals think come close when it comes with the hype, or anticipation of a Halo installment?godzillavskongnintendo's mario outsells halo sony's gran turismo outsells halo so i don't know what hype means unless it equals sales...
Halo bigger than Zelda or Mario? Not a chance in hell Nintendo has many great franchises and MS only has a few.

I'm talking more about pure hype. It seems like halo gets the most attention , at least to me it does. I know there are many more influential games, which sold more, but Halo is a game that hasnt been around near as long as a lot of these established franchises, yet is just as popular.
Halo bigger than Zelda or Mario? Not a chance in hell Nintendo has many great franchises and MS only has a few.
HaloPimp978
I think he meant by hype.
Halo is currently more relevant than any of nintendo's flagship franchises. This is due to simply more Halo games being made recently, imo. I mean, We had two LoZ over 8 years and 5 Halos. Not to mention, shooters are the "It" genre of this generation so yeah. I do disagree with an earlier post about SSB, no offense to it but it's not a game people clamor for. Maybe on THESE forums but not in the real world. I think it's prime was on the N64, just not the same without some face to face trash talking. Honestly think thats the reason fighters have aged so poorly, imo.

Thank you.[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="jg4xchamp"] Eh all those guys sell on long legs(and Zelda never comes close), and don't nearly get the same media attention or that initial 24 hour headline.Fine, let's talk Super Smash Bros. Smash bros probably does do it. I know the fighting game elitists don't want to hear it, but it's by far the most popular fighter at this point.
He's talking hype. Not just straight up life time sales. Halo's sort of in that GTA/Call of Duty cIass of the industry pays attention. Just not nearly with the same legs.jg4xchamp
does halo sell worldwide? or is its biggest area is NA?

As for the hype, I don't know. Zelda kinda lost that hype this gen. Then again, hype is absolutely pointless thing to have anyway so good riddance. Halo is excellent without the hype anyway, actually it's kinda terrible looking at fanboys of the games you enjoy going berserk on other games out of hype. It's just stupid.funsohng
but SS sold millions upon millions of copies

Keep up the good work.
[QUOTE="godzillavskong"] So you know for a fact that the majority of the people that like Halo like Justin Bieber too?kuraimen
It's common sense. Look.
Here is Justin Bieber
And here is Halo
They even use the same pants.
Sooo......Justin Bieber likes Halo? Point? So a mass population of people should avoid this franchise now? I don't care who plays a game that I like. If I like it, then I'm good. I'm sure a lot of these same people like Mario, Zelda, or Metroid, and I know I won't stop playing those titles anytime soon.By your logic, Call of Duty and Angry Birds is more relevant than any of these series you mentioned. Having fewer games in a series isn't necessarily a bad thing, if you want to ask Guitar Hero or Assassin's Creed.Halo is currently more relevant than any of nintendo's flagship franchises.
