Bluetooth technology is much cheaper than it was 3 years ago, but not enough for them to include a Bluetooth Headset in every console iis my guess.

Yes it does, I mean why bother putting one in the box that does everything? Or a remote? Anyways, headsets should be standard like 360 has been doing since launch.

No. If people want headsets they can buy them easily enough. I have a headset but i hardly use it. I usually mute everyone whenever i play MP games anyway.

I'm not much into those type of games. Even a free wired one should be standard for all their systems.

The fact that it's not standard indeed hinders it.

Not since they combined US and EU servers for most if not all onlne games. The only good online community games were on EU servers. I cant put my finger on it but voice chat with yanks is usually a negative to my play experience. French, germans, Dutch even the spanish know decent enough english and are 100x more social. With yanks it always seems to be about how awesome that last knife kill was

I don't have a headset and that's the reason why I don't play multiplayer that much on PS3.

I really don't think there is a game where 360 has voice chat while PSN doesn't. If you can prove me wrong than so be it but I'm very familiar with the PS3's library and I do not know of a game that does not support voice chat while the 360 does.

Headsets aren't even that expensive. Some people make it out like you have to get a Bluetooth headset. The mic I used to use was a $10 USB Mic that worked great. I don't think it hurts the community at all.

Sometimes I rather prefer it because then I don't have to deal with as many trash talkers after every match that I play. I don't really need screaming teenagers yelling racists remarks around to get a good online experience

Here is a perfect illustration. He doesn't skip voice chat because of a lack of hardware, and let's face it: how many people here have no access to a bluetooth headset or USB headset/microphone and have a PS3? Very few. The apparent difference in mic usage has more to due with the different preferences of the communities than anything else.

The Average PSN user is 28. Is it totally weird to think they might elect to ignore an aspect of online multiplayer that is populated by people around half their age?

i believe WWE smackdown vs raw 2008 on ps3 is one.

there are a few more. i cant remember becuase i dont have a ps3, but i remember reading about certain games when people made comparisons and the ps3 version was cited for lack of voice chat when 360 had it.

if i reember more titles, i willl tell you. :)

Since you mainly wanted the PS3 for a BluRay player, why is this such a burning issue for you?

And no... there aren't "Many ps3 games (that) do not support headset either, while the 360 version does." I imagine if you go back into the library you may find an example or two. But that would be the rare exception, not the rule.

Call of Duty 4, Battlefield Bad Company 2 beta, and Modern Warfare 2 doesn't support voice chat? Don't believe it. Yeah, so the PS3 doesn't give you free headset with the console, but the 360 doesn't come with free wi-fi or free online play and it's more of an online system than the PS3.

I my opinion it hinders the communication during game-play a lot. Imagine playing a shooting game, and you get killed from the back, and your friend is standing right beside you, waiting to be killed as well, and you can't tell him to turn around, only to watch him get killed just like you did, it can be very frustrating.

You basically can't communicate well during team based game-types.

doesnt hinder it much in bout every MW2 game i have been in at least 4 of us have HS's and its been good met a few cool people with it, it does hinder it slightly as people arent adopting them as they do in XBL as the function in many ways isnt well advertised.

Altho you do tend to find much like XBL friends will tend to speak between themselves.Altho there is the odd game where everyone has a good laugh and communicates well and wins the game just like any other service. It has its moments :P

Not saying the mass adoption of the headsets isa bad thing but its sometimes good cause the game isnt as much of a mindless rabble as i have seen in a few rooms.

It's funny how people complain about this all the time and talk about Live as being this very strong community, yet I always only see a few people chatting on Xbox Live and PSN. Look, the only time I really get to talk to people and develop any kind of relationship is when I'm playing a popular MMORPG (like Ragnarok Online - but I don't play mmorpgs anymore) or SOME PC first person shooters on steam. And it's even like I try to. It just happens that's great. This almost NEVER happens on Xbox Live. So quit the BS about this sense of strong community. Live just makes it easier to connect to your own friends. Now I'm not saying that it's alright to have the majority not having voice chat, but I think it's such a small majority of people who complain about this. All my of roommates are pretty much borderline Xbox fanboys (who primarily play CoD, Madden...go figure) and they never use there mic or care to listen to other people on live (unless they are saying something hilarious. In fact, I think it's the norm to not use your mic on Xbox Live.

Not all 360's come with a headset, I've had a 360 for almost a year now and most of the time ppl don't talk in games. The PS3 is the same thing, if the game really requires team talking ppl use mics, like in Socom, high ranked Halo...

Fake, Look up everquest: online adventurers, hardware:online arena and the FF11 game, everyone knows EVERYONE a big advantage of a small community is the social factor goes way up. Not like WoW where the servers are so huge you end up only knowing a small fraction. (i played WoW over 4 years)

The downside is that small communitys on a console game are synonymous for dieing.

Playing MW2 yesterday, I am glad that not that many ppl have mics on psn bc there were some major d-bags on that offended me with their racist homophobic and otherwise moronic comments. I'd rather have a few ppl with mics that use it right (i.e. to improve teamwork) than a bunch of idiots given a podium.

Yes it does, I mean why bother putting one in the box that does everything? Or a remote? Anyways, headsets should be standard like 360 has been doing since launch.

so what would u rather have as a standard with system a cheap headset or built in wi fi

one thing is clear its cheaper to buy a blue tooth device over the overpriced wi fi adaptor for the xbox360

Yep. I'd rather have a blue tooth headset of my choosing over a crappy tethered usb one and built in wifi. I mean there's a nice official blue tooth that comes with socom of the decent one that comes with warhawk and doesn't every one have a blue tooth headset for their phone now days

Anyone who says it doesn't clearly doesn't play on both consoles. Yes it does hinder online play. Most games less then 1/2 the players have mics. Ever try and play team leader when 70% of the players have no mics? Not fun.

I'm not much into those type of games. Even a free wired one should be standard for all their systems.

and where would it go? 20 foot cable to connect it to the USB port on the PS3? The miniusb port on the controller is solely a charging dock, even when plugged in it interfaces with the PS3 over bluetooth. I know most of my friends who own a PS3 have it in places where they would rather not drag around a 20 foot cable.

I've never even heard of one game like that, And you say there's "many"? Have you ever even touched a PS3 before? If you want a headset, buy one. Get over it. It's not that big of a deal. 99% of the time voice chat is solely used to talk crap and nothing more anyways. I'm actually glad that some of those annoying people are too lazy to buy a headset because I dont want to hear their annoying voices TBH. Little kids screaming into the mic is one of the most obnoxious, unbarable things in the world.

another issue is that many ps3 games do not support headset either, while the 360 version does. i cant think of any examples off the top of my head at the moment, but there are several. ps3 version does not support voice chat at all while 360 does totaally.

Really now? Wow. That's pathetic. Obviously it didn't matter because nobody must care about those games, I've never heard one person ever mention the lack of voice chat on any PS3 game. How does 3 garbage games warrant "many" anyways? Oh yes, there's just SO MANY games that don't support voice chat on the PS3. Soooooo many.

In fact, I think it's the norm to not use your mic on Xbox Live.

mD-

QFT. You pretty much owned all the lems. What you say is true. People never communicate with strangers. If something they just talk crap or start singing for laughs but never after playing on live so much, have seen barely anybody using team work. You lems want a real game that uses real teamwork and communication? Go play SOCOM. Many of you probably think it sucks, but it uses much more strategic communication than any xbox live game out there.

This and how unintutive the whole system is.. Getting friends to join a game I invite them to was confusing because it was completely illogical.. It sends a message saying " Do you want to play?".. No accept or decline etc etc like you think there would.. INstead you have to go to a completely seperate menu and select their profile to join... No voice chat messages either.. I would pay monthlyf ee any day if it would be like XBL for sure.. Thats what I think PS3's weakness is.
