odd, no one buys the core SKU of the PS3 but people are still willing to buy the core SKU of the X360 (w/out HDD). gnutux

No offense but I think a lot of you people are forgetting something here.

People don't buy consoles for this stuff.

Honestly, and also you guys talk, not all of you but many, like the PS3 and 360 are the same brand and have different hardware.
Each company has different things to offer as far as games and games is what makes you buy or not buy a system along with price depending on what you can afford price may come first.

I mean I bought my 360 in November on the PS3 launch day here in Canada and went with the 360 because of games like and there were shyte load of them IMO and I know they were out longer but even future games made me pick 360 like Halo 3 which I have to play, Mass Effect, Fable. And many shooters and IMO the Xbox has always done shooters better then any other console.

Ofcourse Sony has a year difference behind the 360 but even still ahead at looking at games the only ones I want are MGS4, Killzone2 and maybe Heavenly Swords maybe if it's good. As far as shooters that are multiplat again I don't think of them as better on the PS3 so games like Brothers in Arms, Half-Life2:OB etc... will be better IMO on the 360.

It's all about the games first people not HDMI and HDTV. I mean honestly the crap you guys talk about in graphics don't change peoples opinion. I mean the Wii proves all this graphics talk won't make people buy your console. It's about the games.

And the fact that the 360 has digusting hardware problems but still sells well before it's champion game Halo is released proves how good their software and online and overall console experience really is.

Also I'd like to add stuff like DMC4 and whatever games going multiplay are bigger things to consumers then Wifi or HDMI.
The Elite is for a specific group of people.

And stop pretend Cows, the PS3 20GB is slowly being phased out quietly and is harder and harder to find. Just because a couple of people come on here saying I saw four doesn't mean anything lol I mean "InfamousC" told a poster to buy one on Ebay which is hilarious. Personally I want a 20GB PS3 not a 60GB.

$499 PS3 has has HDMI plus Blue-Ray (most blue-ray players are $700). Elite doesn't have HD-DVD. So essentially you're paying a lot of dough for a black 360 premium with HDMI. The bigger hardrive is another downfall, because you can buy a computer hard-drive and plug it in your PS3, no biggie. With 360 it's not the same (it can done but you risk losing your xbox). If by "more" you mean being forced to chose sides this early in a format war...

well i find something cool.

"PS3 vs. Elite
Supposedly the Xbox 360 Elite has the answer in how to top the massive PlayStation 3, but let me get to the point.

1.) Is the PS3 totally inferior to the Elite? In what ways?

2.) Is the PS3 better in any way at all?

3) Can you predict if the PS3 will come out with a white or silver system (the ones we saw at E3) that will top the 360 Elite?

Thanks, and by the way, I envy you guys.

--Richard

Ah yes, the new Xbox 360 Elite -- let's get to business.

1.) In terms of what you get straight out of the box... yes, the PS3 is inferior because the Elite comes with a 120GB hard drive and the PS3 has only a 60GB. However, the PS3 is compatible with any serial ATA HDD device, so you could easily purchase a 120GB HDD of your own and install it to the PS3 if you choose (plus, you can get them for a hell of lot cheaper than the proposed $180 it costs to buy a 120GB HDD made specifically for the 360).

2.) This is a question I always hate to answer because it's such fanboy fuel. Both systems have advantages over the other in different areas, so it's pointless to try winning this pissing contest all the time. As your faithful mailbag guy, though, I will point out at least one way in which the system is superior -- it has Blu-ray, which can hold a lot more data than a standard DVD disc can.

3.) I do think you'll see other system colors yes. But how long before we'll get those alternate colors is hard to say. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if we saw at least one alternate color available in the next year or so.

--Jerem "

ok so if ign ps3 site comapres it to the 60 one i can assume 20 one is pretty much done with

And another thing as far as the format wars go....

Blu-Ray will probably win, I thought it would way before the 360 even launched but ya know I think it is still dumb to use it as a reason it sells systems. First off people don't buy gaming consoles with that in mind, a rare percent do if any.

And honestly the format war isn't over and probably won't be for a year or two.
Don't forget Beta beat out VHS the first year it their release but VHS went on to win. Not saying that means anything but it is proof  that you can't declaire a winner this early which is why it is smart for MS not do dedicate any format to their console before a winner is made. Kind of common sense IMO but Sony did it because they are a part of the BR format and are using it to push their own format.

Sony did the same thing with DVD even though DVD wasn't their format, they just decided to join forced with DVD and scrap their own format or whatever at the team and work as a team with DVD with some fixes here and there of their own approval

The 20GB PS3 is being phased out. The Elite is $479 has a 120GB hdd and includes HDMI and HDMI cables. So its $120 less than PS3 with 2x the hdd space and includes hdmi cables in the box.

500 Dollar PS3

20 gig hard drive

Console

Free online

Controller

HDMI

480 Dollar Elite

120 gig hard drive

Headset

 Controller

HDMI

$50 Online

100 more gigs and a headset makes the Elite worth a lot more. Plus it's got more than what, 3 or 4 good games.

i think that the Elite was and is a bad move from MS...whats the big difference between Premium and Elite ?

100 GB HDD and HDMI...what esle ?? black finish ?...naaa is not that much difference...

many people will decline for a PS3 because the difference is only 20 bucks...and its said that 20GB ps3s

where disconntinued..with the elite being 20 bucks cheaper, maybe they will start producing them again...

and btw..i am a lemming, proud owner of a XBOX360 :P !!!!

Why are you comparing the core PS3 to the 360 Elite?  If you want to compare cores, PS3 wins hands down (except in price).  Also, I don't find this comparison is very accurate because it's not weighted properly (ie headset, which you can get anywhere for cheap, is less than Blu-Ray, which should be worth more points).  I like using money comparisons better than points.

I'm going to repeat what you said, except put a price tag on it.  Also, I'm adding Wi-Fi as a factor because I'm going to compare the top SKUs.

What 360 is missing: HD movie playback ($200), charge cable ($20), free online ($50), Wi-Fi ($100).  Total price of 360's missing peripherals: $370.  360 Elite + peripherals = $850

What PS3 is missing: 120GB HDD ($120; although, 60GB is enough), HDMI ($50 or much less on monoprice.com), Bluetooth headset (~$50).  Total price of missing PS3 peripherals: $100 if you like the hard drive just fine.  PS3 + peripherals = $700

In the end, PS3 is a much better value price wise (even if you buy a bigger hard drive).

If they end up adding an Hd-DVD drive to the new 360 elite it will be MS downfall. Unless they can make it cheaper than both PS3s. If not then people will just buy one of the two PS3s. This article also seems very interesting.

MS doesn't want to add HD-DVD because they know the format is not doing very well. I think that's also why they don't want to spend money on making a black HD-DVD drive.
EDIT: That artical is probably very true.  What if Microsoft makes an external Blu-Ray drive for the 360?

I'll try to make this as a fair comparasion as possible

PS3 Core Xbox 360 Elite

HDD 20GB (upgradable) 120GB 0-1

Included HD cables None Component, HDMI 0-2

Blu-Ray Yes No 1-2

Included chargecable Yes No 2-2

Included headset No Yes 2-3

Online Free 50 a year (free first 30 days) 3-3

Total price 500 480 3-4

Winner: Xbox 360 Elite (based on what you get in package) then it waries depending on what accessories/add-ons people would like to add to each package

this is only how I see it though

MS is not making a BD Drive...The same guy at avsforum.com (amir who works for MS/HD-DVD division) that confirmed the 360 won't output lossless audio,  also laughed at the notion of MS ever releasing a BD drive

You don't have to get the official USB WiFi adaptor from MS...You can pick up any USB Wifi adaptor,  it's only $12 dollars online.

ALso since you included the HD-DVD drive for the 360 that means you now have to include a movie and a BD remote for the PS3,  since the HD-DVD drive comes with both...

Oh yeah,  and did i mention the Elite 360 upscales DVD's up to 1080p via HDMI?  Add another $100 dollars for the PS3..

I took took the guy's word above that the Elite did not come with charge cables, so just subtract $20. I said PS3 is a better value price wise because you get more things included. I need Wi-Fi, as do many other people, because my router is in a different room. I also enjoy watching movies in HD and not having to buy a quality $800 Blu-Ray player for that.

$100 (120GB notebook HDD for PS3) cheaper than $180 (120GB 360 HDD). This sucks for people who already own a 360.

GoodContributor

Yeah the PS3 offers a TON. Except for the fact that 20GB will always be just a LITTLE bit less than 120GB. I guess you forgot to overlook the enourmous library the 360 has as well.

The PS3 is not worth the money RIGHT NOW, maybe at the end of 2007, but right now, $500- $600 is too much for a gaming system with not many good games.

You can't even find the $499 PS3 in stores... So it doesn't make sense to compare the Elite package to it, that is like saying "Fossil fuel is no good, not compared to fairy dust".
