The average consumer will wait until a price cut. That's why plasma's and lcd's didn't take off big time until Q4 of 06. The mass consumer will wait until they think it is at a price they consider appropriate.

A new Blu-Ray player comes out in a few weeks at a much cheaper price point. It will have the same functionality as the current $999 players. I believe the actual prices were $599 with gradual drops to $499 by the Christmas season. Plus, many people don't care about Blu-Ray.

Mark my words... Expect a price drop this year 2007 christmas. Microsoft and Nintendo with their low price tactics leave Sony no choice. This is just another tactic from Sony to let those waiting for a price drop go and buy a PS3...obviously! It was the same with PS1 and PS2...I see no reason for them to use other tactics all of a sudden.
