https://www.destructoid.com/stories/doom-eternal-on-switch-isn-t-that-far-away-after-all-as-it-launches-next-week-611765.phtml

Want the rundown? Well, it's 18.8GB in size (estimated), and Bethesda stresses that it's still a digital-only release ("at this time?" So you're saying there's a chance). The exact launch time is midnight on December 8, ET, and the aforementioned Ancient Gods: Part One DLC will come "at a later date," so it's going to be behind the other versions. I'd put money on it coming alongside of the second part.

What do you think, SW? Would you give this a go on Switch? I'm kinda curious to see how it plays. I've had a few 3rd party games on Switch, and they weren't THAT bad. I just hope they release this a physical game at some point. Right now it's digital only.

It’ll get raked through the coals - and rightfully so. The Switch is a terrible piece of gaming tech.

Still kinda think Nintendo should sign up for a streaming service like xCloud instead for this kind of thing.

I mean, it looks alright for a Switch port, but that's just it; it looks alright for a Switch port. Sooner or later that's going to stop being an excuse. Why would you settle for that when you can get the full-fat version on other systems, which you will likely have anyway?

I mean when you dive in the console sea for fps, might as well dive all the way to the bottom right?

I am more excited to see them make a decent port for Switch than I am to get the game for it. It seemed they did a decent job on the 2016 Doom game.

Doesn't look to bad all things considered.

Still wouldn't pay premium or play it on the Switch, obv.

Yes, we get it. It doesn't look as good as the PC version. But considering the hardware it's running on, I'm very impressed by this trailer.

Some of you make it sound as if the game appears through the eyes of an elderly 90 year old with cataracts. What was shown on Switch is nothing to sneeze at considering one gets to play it on an under powered Nintendo console.

Trailer looks great. My issue is the 30fps (presumably?). So it looks like a 360 game? Well - there was a time, not long ago, when that would have been a compliment. But DOOM Eternal needs to be >=60fps IMO

Cool. I think it looks pretty good on the Switch and am pretty impressed with some of the games that have managed to have been put on the system. Anyway I just recently picked up the Xbox One version of the game and won’t be getting this version although it would be pretty cool to have it available for on the go play. Unfortunate that they scrapped the physical version though for those who wanted it.

I played some of the game on GPU and it's not very good. Way too much jumping and grasping on to ledges in this game.

Having bought Bioshock Collection and XCOM 2 Collection for the Switch recently, I can say that although they do look like PS3 games (lol), playing them in handheld mode is awesome. Being able to play them while chillin on the couch is a very underrated feature 😄

I can't fathom how anyone could play this game, or any shooter tbh, on the Switch.

I know people do, I just don't know why. Seems so limiting; controls are whack, and the screen is small. Do they make any changes to the game to account for these things?

With that said, having options is always a good thing, so I welcome this addition to the Switch library.

Man, if only Bethesda wasn't owned by MS now, I STILL want to see id Software handle a Metroid Prime game after the Doom reboots.

I will continue to praise all the work that went into making those ports, amazing!

However I am not buying any of them. I tried Witcher 3 on Switch, couldn't stick longer than about 10 minutes.

Hey nice. I'm interested in picking this up somewhere down the line, and not too fussed about it being digital only since I've recently upgraded to 1tb of Switch storage. :)

Any news yet as to whether it will support gyro aiming like the previous Doom game?

Switch controls for FPSs is actually better than on the other consoles, thanks to gyro. Screen small? Put on some glasses or play on the TV.

The real problem is playing this game in 30 fps. Would feel awful. I'd rather have the game even uglier in order for it to hit 60 fps. ****, I'd rather have them make it cel shaded to make it happen. :P

I think it's cool they manage to get this game playable on the Switch, but as someone who has a good PC and have played through Eternal three times on Nightmare (in 60+ fps), I would feel disabled playing this on the Switch. With unstable 30 fps, you'd pretty much have to pay me to play this version.

Or would be if the joycons weren't so damn dinky. Even on a Pro controller, I had to turn gyro off playing Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy because playing with a pro controller makes it annoying. Hell, I had to turn it off for Duke Nukem 3D as well.

Interesting idea, and could work well as a Metroid spin off title. When it comes to the Prime series though, I'd prefer sticking with Retro Studios over any other developer given that they have a proven track record with the franchise. They're a safe pair of hands, while any other team would be too much of a risk.

i think its safe to assume that if the game is done by fromsoft (with Lord Miyasaki involved of course), it'll be as safe or even safer than it would be with Retro. I always fund the original GC Metroid games to be pretty immersive, and immersion is what fromsoft excels at.

RPG systems in Metroid, bleh no thanks. The traditional upgrade system is just fine, no need for messy stats, leveling up, skill trees, etc.

Though I'm sure the guys at From would be smart enough to avoid all that.

My main worry would be that From doesn't exactly make the tightest games. Great games for sure, but both technically and mechanically, might be a bit sloppy for Metroid. Not to say they'd definitely fumble in this hypothetical, but it would be a concern. Great designers, not the strongest developers.

At the very least would be an interesting side step for the franchise. But if I wanted to see Froms take on a classic IP, would rather see Castlevania. Seems right up their alley, and they could definitely deliver on something better than the 3D Castlevanias we've had so far.

The controls are solid with the gryo aim, I wish living room consoles would adopt it for shooters. The screen size is cool for the resolution. If I didn't play it on PS4 I'd definitely prefer the Switch version.
