RPG systems in Metroid, bleh no thanks. The traditional upgrade system is just fine, no need for messy stats, leveling up, skill trees, etc.

Though I'm sure the guys at From would be smart enough to avoid all that.

My main worry would be that From doesn't exactly make the tightest games. Great games for sure, but both technically and mechanically, might be a bit sloppy for Metroid. Not to say they'd definitely fumble in this hypothetical, but it would be a concern. Great designers, not the strongest developers.

At the very least would be an interesting side step for the franchise. But if I wanted to see Froms take on a classic IP, would rather see Castlevania. Seems right up their alley, and they could definitely deliver on something better than the 3D Castlevanias we've had so far.

tbh i wasn't even thinking about levels. Sekiro-like rpg systems is what would fit Metroid better.

How bastardised will this version be?

Unlike 2016, this game requires more precision aiming and agile movement. the 30FPS alone is going to be terrible. Low visuals low frame rate and terrible controls in handheld will make this game insanely hard to and cumbersome to play

Unless they've spent the 8 months completely gutting the Switch version.

@nintendoboy16: While i'd be interested in seeing an Id Metroid, as i've stated before, Fromsoft would be the ultimate Metroid dev. The atmosphere, the level design, boss fights, enemies variety, secrets and great rpg mechanics would be the shiz.

Interesting idea, and could work well as a Metroid spin off title. When it comes to the Prime series though, I'd prefer sticking with Retro Studios over any other developer given that they have a proven track record with the franchise. They're a safe pair of hands, while any other team would be too much of a risk.

i think its safe to assume that if the game is done by fromsoft (with Lord Miyasaki involved of course), it'll be as safe or even safer than it would be with Retro. I always fund the original GC Metroid games to be pretty immersive, and immersion is what fromsoft excels at.

Maybe so, I just don't usually like it when another developer takes over the reigns of an awesome franchise. Key aspects of the games which made them great like the atmosphere, exploration and gameplay mechanics could be altered to the point where it doesn't feel like a Metroid Prime anymore.

In the same way I couldn't imagine anybody but Naughty Dog doing the Last of Us, or Platinum with the Bayonetta series.

Then again, maybe Fromsoft could make a 3rd person Metroid game. That would be cool to see.

I’ve got a few FPS on switch and IMO none of them play very well. The switch is not the place to play this game for me at least

Sorry for jumping in here, but I saw that sentence. And I agree with it, usually. But in this case, where Metroid Prime 1 was a masterpiece, Metroid Prime 2 was great, but Metroid Prime 3 was a bit of a turd, it would've been nice to see some other studio try Metroid out. A studio like FromSoftware doing a 3rd person Metroid? Yes, please.

MP3 not being very good has me a bit worried for MP4. Especially now that much of Retro's talent for the previous Prime games have left the studio. I don't think I even want Metroid Prime anymore. I just want more Metroid, and 3rd person 3D Metroid has only been done once. Would rather see a new take on that.

Really enjoyed Doom on Switch, but I dont know if I can play Eternal with a controller. I just dont have the dexterity needed to pull off the moves needed to push forward in this game with thumb sticks and face buttons.

All you graphic whiners sound rediculous... meme harder fellas for extra emphasis. Portable gaming is dope and no platform does this with the ease of the Switch.

You know what's a meme? Paying full price for a game that looks and runs like this.

Doom Eternal was not design for a controller. It was a mess in some cases.

Lol I think if you're buying this it's either because you want it on the go or Switch is your only system. I think it will be decent in handheld mode.

A game like this is not good for playing on a bus. Eternal is a pretty sweaty game, and i don't see, personally, how anybody would enjoy a game like this on a bus, car, train or whatever.

Damn that resolution is low in a few of those shots. I thought that maybe my Youtube settings were messed up, but nope, that's how the game looks. It does overall look better than I thought it would. I guess that dynamic resolution is going to get aggressive.

Confirmed it will have gyro support and I'm not talking about the sandwich.

Good look, I really liked the gyro support on the 1st one... it is not k/m by any means but way better than just a thumbstick.

I'm curious to try the original DOOM on Switch, but it seems like the physical edition is becoming rare, and still expensive.

@Litchie: Sorry for the slow reply to your post, my notifications have been coming through late recently.

I can see how you'd view MP3 as the weakest entry in the Prime trilogy, but I thought it was pretty solid. Perhaps I didn't notice its shortcomings like you did because I really enjoy the first-person perspective, and just viewed it as more of the same.

It could be that franchise fatigue is setting in for you with the Prime series. I am hopeful that MP4 turns out well, but the fact that they had to take it back to the drawing board is admittedly making me quite nervous about it too. Definitely can't wait to play it though.

More Metroid is always welcome of course, so a new 3rd-person take on the franchise would be intriguing. Could refresh your Metroid mojo if you're burnt out on the first-person games. I wonder if it was Fromsoft developing it, would a Souls type format work for a Metroid game? Interesting to think about.

No problem at all dude.

I don't think I'm burnt out on the 1st person games, at least I hope not. I loved MP1&2 and was extremely excited for MP3. When I got to play it, I loved parts of it, but the sense of loneliness was gone with the interaction of other characters. I also very much disliked the removal of changing beams. It added another layer of strategy to the combat in the first two games that I very much enjoyed. That's two things that I never really got past..

I don't think MP3 was a bad game, just pretty dissapointing to me. Actually never finished it, which is a first for me regarding Metroid.

Really though, whichever perspective is fine, but since 3rd person has been made the least, would be cool if they tried that again. And yes, FromSoft would be a very interesting choice. Still excited for MP4 though! Hope we get to see something from it soon.

It looks pretty good, but I think I'll just play it through Game Pass.

Not on par to PC, but you're still getting 60fps and much much much better graphics and resolution. So no, its nowhere near in the same league.

Hmm, well you make some solid points there about the weak points of MP3. Could be that Retro rested on their laurels a bit with it rather than pushing the series forward in a more exciting way. I do have fond memories of it, but haven't played in quite a while now so may have to go back and revisit it to see if my opinion remains the same.

Never finished it? Wow, yeah that is pretty significant for a Metroid game, particularly in the case of a big fan like yourself! I can only imagine the disappointment was severe in your case if you lost interest in playing until the end.

Here's hoping MP4 can make up for that, although at this point I feel like many people have impossibly high expectations for this sequel. In many ways the development process being so drawn out hasn't helped matters.

Yeah, I'm coming around to the idea of a 3rd person take on Metroid now. Hadn't honestly thought about it really before it was mentioned in this thread, but could go some ways to keeping the franchise fresh. A reboot from a different perspective, worked well for God of War.

Anyway, I hope you have fun with MP4 whenever it eventually comes out. :)
