[QUOTE="MBirdy88"]

[QUOTE="cain006"]Wrangler is overpowered for sure. Not only do you get to choose where to shoot but your turret has effectively triple the health. Gunslinger is also pretty overpowered, no way in hell does the engineer deserve a health boost for using it.

And there's also worthless items like the bonesaw and winger.

Hexagon_777

Wrangler? really? it has a MAJOR weakness.... No automated killing, and the engineer needs to be by the sentry. very VERY easy for the majority of classes to counter, I'm sure you could argue that in some spots of some maps its powerful ... but most of the time? very fragile.

Gun Slinger gives health because its the "on the move engineer" combined with the crit shotgun after sentry death... I dunno engineers are very fragile... not a big deal.

Would you kindly explain the bit about the turret effectively receiving triple its normal health as well?

The turret is disabled when the engineer is dead, the engineer has to be right next to the sentry, for isntance I was playing that boxed in 5 point map, attacking. they put a sentry down, he was firing at a scount distracting him, I walked in as a pyro instagibbed the engineer... problem solved, many other classes have it easier. Kill the engy, sentry is disabled.

I have put several hours into playing as an engineer and I never noticed my turrent having triple health when dabbling with the wrangler.

That shield reduces the damage dealt doesn't it? not health increase.

I've tried to get into DOTA2 but it and the genre in general just isn't for me, but i still have tons of copies in my inventory if anyone wants one (dunno whether they're still valid since its out of beta).

parkurtommo

I don't think they're valid anymore.

You're right they're definitely not because i just checked and they're all gone :P.

Awesome. Now hopefully it won't take 5 minutes to find a match.

I think that will stay. Matchmaking is lengthy because it has to take into account skill levels, unlike a game like CoD where you see people at higher prestige levels and people at level 3.

That's a shield? I just thought it was meant to indicate that the turret is now under an engineer's control.

It is an ok game. Ive been playing it for a while now and its god awful to get into, the gameplay is ok but not great. But the biggest problem is the incredibly shitty community that plays it. They rival most xbl screaming and cursing kids for rudeness.

I cant begin to count how many times starting out I was trying to figure out what to do and messages would flood the screen "PLay better n00b!" or "He is schilling for the other team" and if I would dare ask a question all Id get are "GTFO you suck". So after a week or so of that crap I just quit and Ive never cared to go back again.

If you could learn how to play easier and the other players werent all dickbags it might have been atl east a little enjoyable.

DOTA's community is actually very tame next to other MOBAs. You need very thick skin in these games, no way around it unless punishments are made more severe. Though there is a reason why the majority of players play with a group.

I'm gonna be honest, playing by yourself is like opening Pandora's Box. Playing with 4 other friends is a lot of fun though.

Everyone already had the game pretty much. Thanks for the 15 Dota 2 passes, Valve. They would have been useful if everyone else hadn't gotten them as well.

A testing version of the biggest game available for Steam, DOTA 2, is now available for Linux. An official release is said to happen soon. Things are about to get even more serious in the world of Linux.

[QUOTE="II_Seraphim_II"]I wanna get into dota, the only things stopping me at the moment are the fact that its overly complicated and convoluted, and the fanbase is atrocious. Its like all the worst people from XBL mated incestually for 6 generations and DOTA 2 players are the offspring. Not all DOTA 2 players, just an overwhelming majority lolparkurtommo
It's definitely not the majority, at least not in mid-high skill brackets. I suppose people in the lower skill bracket have less knowledge and end up thinking they're better than everyone else. But yeah the DOTA 2 community is at least better than that of league of legends or the original Dota due to the new report system and very strict muting system. And there are tutoirals that introduce you to the mechanics, they've been added only recently.

Actually the higher the skill bracket the more likely people are to rage. Not sure what you are talking about tbh.

Dota 2 MM tries to keep you around 50%, if you win too much they put garbage players on your team to make sure you lose.

That's not true for me, I have almost 600 wins (1200 matches), and the last time I've seen someone rage/insult anyone was a loonnnggg time ago, when I was in a lower bracket. People tend to be polite, patient, tolerant, as long as everyone isn't making stupid mistakes and has bad positioning. Just yesterday I played a match where a support was feeding non stop, he ended up with 1 kill and 20 deaths, honestly he was lucky that I wasn't rage quitting, though our teammates were very tolerant and were constantly saying "don't worry about it".

I have to admit, the game can be addicting, but not addicting like something like WoW(where you can play 24hrs straight). It's a kind of game where I can play in short bursts(maybe one or two match a day) and I never get bored.

It feels really sluggish compared to League, I don't know how to explain it. It's because it has WC3 mechanics I guess like the turn rate and stuff. It's no doubt a good game, and has more depth than League will ever have, but I i just can'tttttttttttt get into it. It feels sloow :(.

And abandoning a match (leaving it without finishing or before another player abandons) has pretty severe consequences, you can get put into the low priority match making pool where all of the bad Russians and Rage quitters lurk. :P

I feel the same with League of Lesbians, I tried it with a good friend of mine and I just couldn't get in to it, it was way too "simple". I know that sounds dumb as fvck but it's true, I really don't like how it feels the same as Dota but it has less things to take into consideration. Mechanics are simplified, and more importantly combat and damage feels extremely floating and unsatisfying for me. Which is probably why you think DOTA 2 feels "slow", because it has more weight, imo.

Wrangler? really? it has a MAJOR weakness....

Everything that damages it does 33% of the damage it normally would. Also the wrangler tracks a little. It's just unfair compared to the pistol.

And the gunslinger effectively shuts down scouts and it doesn't really matter if it's destroyed because it only costs 100 metal. I'd like to see it cost 125, then I'd say it's balanced.

[QUOTE="parkurtommo"] I think that will stay. Matchmaking is lengthy because it has to take into account skill levels, unlike a game like CoD where you see people at higher prestige levels and people at level 3.parkurtommo

Dota 2 MM tries to keep you around 50%, if you win too much they put garbage players on your team to make sure you lose.

And I guess that's a good system?

Nah that sucks, because it's infuriating to be intentionally handicapped.

Dota 2 has some pretty cool art style, that's about it.

[QUOTE="skrat_01"]Already put over a hundred hours into the thing which is very, very rare for me. Absolutely fascinating game and the best MOBA/Multiplayer ARPG I've played since the War3 mod - excellent fun with friends and the gold standard of free to play games. I'm still surprised how good the thing is and how well Valve are handling it. As long as it doesn't turn into TF2 I'll be stoked.Hexagon_777

What qualms do you have with TF2?

How the game has become a cluster **** of items; the balancing is an issue but it's how the games visual direction has been ruined by the hats, colouring tagging and everything. Don't get me wrong I loved TF2 but Valve seemed to just stop caring about keeping some sort of consistency there and put content - as ugly and poorly thought out it may be first.
