Hey guys I hope that I'm posting this in the right board. About two months ago my PS3 broke right after I bought and started playinf DAO. I eventually re-bought it for the PC but now, as luck would have it, I have a new PS3. I am wondering which system would offer me the best gameplay experience and why? I have heard that the PC version is better but I would like to hear from you folks. Thanks in advance.

Get the ps3 version, the playstation controller is better because you can relax on your sofa/bed and the graphics are about the same just minor differences.

Disregard the previous statement completely. Getthe PC version, it's much better in every way and there are a ton of mods to try out.

The PC version is better to such an extent that it actually scored higher.

Haha, you have absolutely no idea.

The PC version is better in every conceivable way.

  • Better interface -- You have an MMO-like command bar at the bottom, where you can map dozens of spells and abilities. You're not being restrained by the controller and command wheel.
  • Better camera control -- You can zoom right out, allowing you to take much greater advantage of AoE spells, allowing you to survey the environment to a greater degree and allowing you to easily command your companions.
  • Better visuals, obviously.
  • Mods -- These range from simple things like adding extra weapons, to completely changing the atmosphere. Go to Dragon Age Nexus to educate yourself.

Gamespot has a SPECIAL Dragon Age article on this, as do many other websites. Instead of a long post and a bunch of links, let me save you time and be very direct.

Dragon Age : PC (AAA 9.5)>PS3 (AAA 9.0) >360 (AA 8.5)

I have trouble playing Dragon Age without the isometric camera angle, so I'd recommend the PC version just for that. There's plenty of other reasons like being more challenging, improved visuals, much better interface (thanks to the KB/M), higher framerate and mods (very important). But the lack of an isometric camera angle is the biggest issue in the console version IMO.

PC version has mods, better graphics, Bioware actually seems to care (ignore the rhyme) about it (patches). The PC version has a tactical isometric view, you can click to move characters (you have to manually on the console version), the combat controls much better and the gameplay is harder to match it (on the harder difficulties anyways).

Luckily for you I have both versions also. If you have a setup like me you can lay down and relax and play your PC, the PC version of the game is definantly the superior experience i recommend the PS3 version as well if you are a trophy whore. DA: O is really designed for PC in mind though, it feels quite awkward on the consoles.

Forgive me for being such a noob about this but I'm not entirely sure what isometric camera angle means. I googled it and I still don't have a clear understanding. Perhaps you could elaborate on this?

Isometric

Third Person (on PS3)

The isometric camera offers much smoother and more tactical gameplay, you can control different characters and their abilities seamlessly without losing track of both your allies or your enemies even in large battles. Also, the art seems to be designed for that view so the other camera angles tend to look less spectacular.

I've got the PS3 version, and i'm tempted to say its probably the worst version of the game. I can't confirm this, as i've not played the other versions. But, it seems that GS rated the PS3 version over the xbox, because PS3 has the better graphics. However, it runs like crap on the PS3. I should of really got it on the PC, but I don't like gaming on my PC. PC gaming seems to cross the like from geek into nerd

I hate the blind fanboy advice you get here like this... DA:O isn't ground breaking on the PC but it still blows both console versions out of the water, then you have the added isometric view which not only gives you more control but allows for a far more tactical play style, DA:O on the pc throw a lot more at you and is more rewarding.

Makes a lot of sense. I screwed around with it for about 30 or so hours before ditching it completely for a trade in. I totally hated the game due to the HORRIBLE controls(PS3) and from the way the Hermits are describing it it seems like I would have enjoyed it tremendously on the PC (don't really care about the GFX). Alas my junky little laptop would self combust if I even TRIED to install it LOL.

My other problem was with the party macro commands which I felt was a terrible immitation of FFXII's gambit system that simply did not work. I wonder if that's due to console limitations as well? I constantly found they would not carry out the commands I had selected for them. Probably just me though.

I'm actually surprised it scored higher than the 360 version. I've heard the framerate is very erratic and can drop in some combat intensive moments. Surely this is more detrimental to the game than some low res textures?

PC version is the superior version in every category. Its also a different game on PC because you have a lot more control. My friend has the 360 version and when he saw me playing it on the PC he didn't even realize it was DA-O

Its all the same, a console gamer si just as big a geek as a pc owner.

I would say console owners are bigger nerds because they actually bought a dedicated gaming system, while PC owners use their computers for work, communication etc as well as gaming.

Almost any multiplatform that is released the pc version is always better but of course, with some exceptions like GTA4 or Star Wars TFU. In the case of DA:O, the pc is way better. Mods, better controls and better graphics are what you are getting with the pc version.

Star Wars TFU worked fine for me. I had no problems with it on the PC.
