It couldn't be that bad...
Honestly, it just sounds like an easy game that's not so much about skill, but is still fun for DBZ fans. It's probably on the same level as Super Sonic Warriors for the GBA, and that got around a 7 if I remember correctly.
The weird thing about all these Dragonball Z games that come out every single year, is that they always get that same score. The weirder thing is for them to keep making them, somebody, somewhere, has to be buying them. You know who you are.
I used to always get hyped up for the next DBZ game being a huge DBZ fan, thinking the next one would be different, and then it scores in the 40s and 50s on metacritic. Maybe someday someone will make a good DBZ game again like Budokai 1-3.
The games are made for the hardcore DBZ fans (like me) who have an itch to entertain their curiosity. Ive always talked myself out of it though. God I want there to be a AAA DBZ game, that actually has effort put into it.It couldn't be that bad...

Well in a fighting game, if the actual fighting gameplay is poor and shallow, as Carolyn stated it was, then it pretty much deserves a low score am I correct?

I'm a hardcore Dragonball fan too, I guess for around 14 years or so now. The games though, I never really expect too much unless they're unplayable like Taiketsu. I had my eye on this one, because the last console DB fighter I bought was Budokai 1 for the GCN, and I've been wanting to get a new one for a few years now. From everything I've heard, Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 2 were the pinacle of the fighting games, so I don't understand why they can't just expand on those rather than starting over with a worse formula.
1. Standards have changed. 2. Super sonic warriors felt like a game. This is game is like a giant quick time event. Not to mention how much of it is rehashed. It couldn't be that bad...

I had high hopes for this game.
I know the battle system looks like sh*t. I couldn't believe they would have a 50/50 chance of keeping your combo going, that sounds horrible. The fighting even looks terrible on youtube.
Why cant they make a Bodokai Tenkaichi 4 with the same battle system as tenkaichi 3, character creation modes, special moves creation and customizations, online battles, online tournament modes, keep all the characters as in tenkaichi 3, and have a free roam story mode as in tenkaichi 2?
How hard is it to get through these developers skulls that this ^^^^^^^, what I just said, is what the DBZ fans are wanting. Wont be buying this game.
Or continued with the bodokai series with character creations and what not. Bodokai 3 was a very solid game too.
Budokai 3 was the last truly good DBZ game that could appeal to people who never watched the series or had much interest for it. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was the last decent DBZ game but to be quite honestly, the DBZ fighting games have mostly always been crap. This review doesn't surprise me at all......
Actually the last good one was Infinite World. It was basically Budokai 3's template but updated. Nobody got around to playing it though because they released it for the PS2 in the midst of the new generation of consoles. But yea... it's sad to see all these DBZ games turn out like crap, and even if it's crap, a 4? You'd think it was a Burger King game.Budokai 3 was the last truly good DBZ game that could appeal to people who never watched the series or had much interest for it. XileLord
one of the worst DBZ games ever made
Budokai 1 has better graphics and gameplay, that was a 2002 PS2 game
Tenkaichi 1 has more content
the crappy music is rehashed right from Raging Blast 2, even tho we were promised we would get the original Japanese OST, but i guess thats too much to ask for
its only good for its few decent animated cutscenes, which Budokai 1 also did alot better

Tenkaichi 2 was by far the best game in terms of content, Tenkaichi 3 had much less content but just a few more filler characters, i dont know why people think T3 is better
T2 also had lost courage and Dark half, such good songs
DBZ games have been **** since Burst Limit. And I doubt any DBZ games will ever top the epicness that was Budokai 3.
I soon as I saw the score I knew what reviewer it would be. Same person who gave Persona 2: Innocent Sin a 5. Gamespot has underrated alot of Japanese Anime styled games this generation. I don't even know why they review them anymore.FlamesOfGreyThis, most GS reviewers are clueless with japanese style games.
Better stop making Dragon Ball Z fighting games. Miroku32
a remake of Legacy of goku trilogy for consoles or 3DS/Vita would be god tier
It did everything it had to. It simulated the fights from the anime, you get a really great cinematic experience with your own character. Yes it had some flaws, but not enough to give it a 4. Way to harsh.Loegi
Budokai 1 did that miles better, 10 years ago

Would be good! :)thats ridiculous...campzorNo it isn't. It's just their opinion. And if someone is a fan, they'll buy it irregardless of reviews. So what's the problem?

It didn't have Create a Character, which is a big point of the game.:(
I was really looking forward to this. What looked great to me is how even though there's less interactivity the fights look more like the actual show then past tenkaichi games.
EDIT:
Yeah I guess it looks and sounds pretty horrible. :( Maybe they should leave DBZ alone already.
I was really physced for this game with character creation, actual giant apes boss battles ect. But the more I find out about this game the more i'm turned off. The actual battle, especially with this coin flip on combos crap looks BRUTAL. Just a week ago I couldn't freakn' wait for this game, now it looks like i'm gonna pass..
Has there ever been a good Dragon Ball game? I used to watch the cartoon before school every morning, I wouldn't mind re-living my childhood some.WithoutGraceXIIBudokai 3, and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for ps2 are both really good games.

knuckl3head
I think if the battle's weren't random it could be good. But then i've heard some of the dialouge in the cutscenes and just... eww.
I got excited for it because the visuals are so good, esp. the character models :P They should just make another Tenkaichi 3 with these graphics, and just re-use voices from the anime for the cutscenes. That'd be perfect for DBZ.

Tenkaichi 3 for the wii is even better. The motion control works perfectly with the moves :)
It was good on the ps2 too though.
