It had something like 25 AAA/AAAA's in what, 2 years?
Weak? Give me a break. :/

I believe the PS2 also had around that many (if not more)
I guess Gamespot handed them out like candy at the time.. (Sorta like IGN now..)

[QUOTE="Silvereign"]If Dreamcast was so great it wouldn't have been killed off so early.
The Dreamcast was essentially killed off by Sony's PS2 but now that everyone hate Sony and the PS3 they wan't to show love to the Dreamcast. People..
grandlx2
No. And no.
It was poor marketing. Nothing else.
Or people just not buying the system...and choosing the PS2.
Set grind Radio had the shortest levels . Shenmue was just some punk kid asking questions. Sonic Adventure lacked any substance. Sega Rally had 3 courses. VF2 > VF3 Sega Net was too costly and supported 1 isp on the planet! Daytona USA 2000 was alright. Crazy Taxi was a rental. 3rd party support was harder to find than wmds in Iraq. Crimson sea = yawn. RE:CV was alright. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I used that system mostly to play better fighting games and resident evil ports. Why do people look back in awe?Tony-Baxter
I still have my Dreamcast, and I still play it. I wish It was a way I could play you in some Marvel vs Capcom 2...

Dreamcast was only around from 1999 to 2001, commercially.
The PS2 is stilla round.
Why are people bothering to put the DC down, or downplay it as if it was nothing special ?
The quality of the SOFTWARE says it all, couple that with online and VMU - innovation was the Dreamcasts middle name.
The simple fact is that Dreamcast was a few years ahead of it's time to it's own detriment. I thought it was a brilliant system or at least many of the core principals behind it were brilliant. Anyway it had some great games.
First of all Sega was always good with sports games
Games that I found noteworthy.
Soul Edge
Soul Caliber
Soul Reaver
Phantasy Star Online
Skies of Arcadia
Jet Grind Radio (which is still my favorite game of all time.)
I think had that waited another few years to realease around the same time as PS2 they would have had much larger third party support.

Dreamcast was the first console to really have online play and did it properly. Powerstone1 & 2 are cult classics. Skys of Arcadic is legendary for its time. Shemue has a royal following. The NFL games were highly praised at the time.

Yeah Gamespot handed out AAA's a bit more back in the day. Still, as most have pointed out, the Dreamcast had an awesome library. In the end, it is indeed the games that count, and that is what the Dreamcast delivered.
It launched with one of the strongest launch games ever in Soul Calibur. While that game has now been surpassed, it was way ahead of its time. It looked amazing and wasn't surpased for years. Remember when the Dreamcast launched it was competing with the PS1 and N64. Soul Calibur was simply amazing.
Football is one of the reasons many buy consoles. NFL2k was an amazing advance for home consoles. It's visuals blew away the competition. The same can be said about 2k's other sports titles, all offering solid gameplay to back up the good looks. Once again, at the time, the Dreamcast was unmatched.
Other awesome games:
Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2 (2 solid RPGs)
Crazy Taxi (It brought the arcade experience home. Once again, awesome game for its time.)
Virtua Tennis (Reason enough to own the system.)
Sonic Adventure 2 (Sonic games were still good back in the day.)
Tons and tons of awesome 2d fighters: (Marvel vs Capcom 2, Streetfighter 3 3rd strike, King of fighters 1998-2002, Capcom vs Snk 2, GMoTW, Last Blade 2, Guilty Gear X, Dead or Alive 2)
Sword of the Beserk. -Great game.

I had a Saturn and Dreamcast, and i will even admit Saturn was crap.
Anyone play Dragon's Blood on DC? it was a great action adventure.

No, thank GOD. Way too expensive for the few awesome games it had. If I had a Saturn I would be singing its praises it a futile attempt to justify the purchase.
The saturns problem was that at a late stage Sega realised the ps1 was cabable of doing proper 3d games. So they put another cpu in to compensate.
However it was a dog to program for and still didnt really compete 3d wise. Still had some classics though.
Can you imagine how even more broken ps3 would be had sony gone for 2 cells as originally planned!!!

Heh, to each his own I guess. I still like playing classics like Radiant Silvergun, Fighters Megamix, Astal, Legend of Aldean and many others.
Soul Calibur greatest fighter of all time ring a bell and the console was stronger than the PS2 just not enough support Sega gave up even very early.wooooode
No, it wasn't. You need to take those goggles off. It could do some things easier than the PS2 could, but STRONGER ususally equals Poly's per second, something the DC lacked, also it used MODIFIED CD's as it's storage, another weakness.
I am the TRUE Sega Head on these boards. I owned all sega consoles plus I had all the games for them.
Genesis was great although the graphics was lacking compared to SNES.
Saturn was a great system and I enjoyed games like fighting vipers, last bronx, nights (at the time), Independence day, sega rally, Fighters mega mix, 3 dirty dwarfs, need for speed, and (All the capcom fighting games).
Dreamcast was like the messiah at the time. I was soo pumped for the dreamcast til I actually had dreams about me playing it. I couldnt wait til I actually traded my saturn for an Japanese Dreamcast. I was the only teen in Pennsylvania with an dreamcast a year before it actually came out. I imported games like soul caliber, powerstone, sega rally, virtua fighter 3tb and project berkley just to name a few...
But Sega was the best esspecially with their arcade games. They were the BEST at arcade video games. It was just ashame that none of their arcade games could not port perfectly onto there consoles. BUT sega was the trend setters in the ninties!
[QUOTE="dracula_16"]People think they're cool if they praise crappy things. Probably why people pretend to like Big Rigs.Vyse_The_Daring
Crappy things? Why don't you try looking at the Dreamcast's lineup of games in those short two years and see if it looks crappy.
He just wants to get punched in the throat. Dont even worry about him lmao. Its not even worth it.

"Shenmue was just some punk kid asking questions."
Yeah, and Final Fantasy VII was just some punk rebels casting spells.
Are you kidding me? Clearly gameplay is not a term you're particularly familiar with. Who cares if Jet Grind had short levels; different lengths work differently for different games. Crazy Taxi was an extremely addictive game, and it was something you could pick up months after "beating" it, and still have fun. And the fact that you're calling RE:CV "alright" means you're clearly not a fan of Resident Evil. Do you actually enjoy video games?
I am the TRUE Sega Head on these boards.
bigbon_basic
no, that title goes to panzer_zwei I'm afraid...
I still have my DC with 30 or so games.
God I loved that system, the amount of fun in the two years (not even two years like 18 months) was incredible. I seriously think it would of given a much better run if Sega had money. They only spend 100 million on marketing, thats tablescraps. Yet that had more AAA+ titles in that short of span than any system in history, and sold 10-11 million units in that 18 months. Which back in 99-2001 was awesome.
Sega killed sega, no money = no console...
I'm just sad I may never finish Shenmue.
