i have officially compared mkds and mk64 at same screen size....
results...if you squeezed down the n64 version it would look cleaner and crispers...the trees, marios hat and cart are shinier...but the ground looks better in mkds and the shapes are less blocky, more polygons in the ds...but its a little grainy...
heres the deal.. im pretty sure the hardware is better than the 64...maybe not texture wise...but it is....
mk 64 = mkds
An easy comparison would be Super Mario 64 to Super Mario 64 DS, in which case, the DS is superior. Look at games like Zelda: PH and Metroid Prime Hunters, and its an easy choice.MiyomaticSooo true.hell, look at NINJA GAIDEN for ds and that game makes n64 really look bad.
Nintendo 64 graphics are superior and this is coming from a person who played many hours on the DS and N64. The problem with the DS 3d graphics is that its flooded with sharp polygons all over the place. The Nintendo 64 has a cleaner, smoother overall feel than the DS.
thats becasue of the texture filters. That being said SM64 ds looks alot better than Sm64Nintendo 64 graphics are superior and this is coming from a person who played many hours on the DS and N64. N64 is a lot better...DS doesnt have a texture filter, so the games look more like a PSone game.
Compare GoldenEye 007 to Metroid Prime.
Rayman 64 to Rayman DS.
Mario 64 to Mario 64DS.
N64 wins all, thanks to the texture filter.
Yeah but Quake 2 on the N64 and even PSone looked loads better. In fact the PSone had large environments with plenty of detail in it (not just graphically)
again. if you have dedicated developers you can actually see better graphics on the dsRahnyc4
Unless you play your console games on a tiny monitor, I honestly can't see how anyone would vote in favor of the N64. Or unless you really like ugly, outdated 3D work.
Old 2D will always look better than old 3D, and in some cases, 2.5D looks better than both. Ninja Gaiden DS -- beautiful 2D backgrounds, great animations that boast the perfect framerate and models that, thanks to their size, look good.
Conker can't stand a chance.
DS for me. Hardware is similar, but devs are more talented now, so overall I think we will see better looking games than the N64.
The DS has better graphics I mean Super Mario 64 DS has better graphics than the original its just the controls aren't as good.
The N64 had better graphics, but we knew this since Mario 64 DS came out on launch day.Willy105DS version looks better.

I have both you know. So do I, but I didn't compare them. However, as far as I'm concerned the graphical differences are that the DS version has more polygons, but N64 has texture filtering.
Mario 64/DS:
DS version just doesn't control as well.

He says in the video that the super mairo dshave a higer polgon count.ALso the ds is stroger the n64 it says so on nintedo website. 1:47
Mario 64 DS puts on a great show from a graphical standpoint. This time around, the character models have an increased poly count that makes them look much, much better than the eight-year-old N64 game after which it is modeled. You'll still run across an ugly texture or two, but the game runs at a great, smooth frame rate and looks bright and colorful. The rough spots are also smoothed out a bit by the fact that you're playing it on a small, sharp screen instead of a television. The map on the lower screen is a little fuzzy in spots and isn't quite as easy to read as it should be, but it works. The graphics used in the minigames are also quite strong.
Sure, from a technical standpoint the DS is more advanced, but unless the game is in 2D, they will always look inferior to an N64 game. The lack of texture filter makes everything look dirty and rough, something that the N64 had that made it's graphics that much more impressive than say, the first Playstation. Playing Mario 64 DS and Diddy Kong Racing DS shows just how better things looked in their original versions.Willy105
This is why I rather wan't games in 2d because of lack texture filter.
Ancient thread is ancient. DS has better graphics.OreoMilkshake
Instead of posting a few words explain your comment on how the ds bost in graphics compared to the n64.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/japanese-multiplayer-kingdom-hearts/469433D Graphics on the DS remind me a lot of PS1 3D as opossed to N64 3D. N64 games had this blurry yet very solid look to them. DS games seem more sharp but at the same time have more issues with clipping and have a big of roughness to them similar to 3D games on the PS1.
As for pure power, I'd have to say the DS would win overall. I played an N64 recently (I purchased one for the first time last summer) and it's quite shocking how bad some of the games look. Considering I have played like 20 N64 games in the last year I feel I have a good sense of what it is capable of and I could not eve imagine the N64 producing graphics such as Dementium: The Ward (horror fps for the DS). That game alone kinda proved to me which one is more powerful. Dementium is clearly at a level above what the N64 is capable. Games like Metroid Prime Hunters and Ninja Gaiden DS further prove the point.
