Controls being awful is a matter of preference, you tw@t.[QUOTE="parkurtommo"]
[QUOTE="dontshackzmii"]
i dont care what you "prefer" this is not the point of this thread sir. This threard is about gamings moving on from this limted and dated control! Why in the name is christ do they play some many fps games on it? Analog is awful for fps games but its like the most popular genre on consoles right now.
dontshackzmii
lol its not they are clunky and slow that's like saying a 1984 Honda is faster then a 2012 Ferrari is just a matter of opinion
No, speed is a value, quality is not. My preference determines the quality of the control I'm using. Same goes for those cars, the Ferrari is faster but what if I prefer the honda? That makes the honda better for me. Did you get that all in your tiny little skull?Who gives what other people think? The fact is, the gaming market will continue to move forward with innovations, and people who want to play with outdated 1997 controllers will be left behind, while real gamers who are willing to try new things will continue to have fun.
so let me get this straight, you want to touch a guy moving around on the screen and he falls over dead?Every time a company trys to move gaming forward all the analog fan boys go ape **** . What i don't get the most is they love fps games! It's the most awful way to play fps by far.
The wii mote is wwwwwwaaaaaaaay better for fps games then analog controls! The wii pad could be just as good as a mouse if they use the touch screen.
Motion controls let you act out the game rather then just press a button to do that action. Like lets say we are opening a door we can swing the controller like you really are doing it rather then hitting the x button then it happens on screen.
dontshackzmii
yeah, that sounds like fun.

I could probably learn how to play the Wii motion controller on a FPS pretty easily. But dual analog doesn't stink. They are very confortable controls for people who can't use a mouse/keyboard, or Wii motion controller.
I wish Wii classic controller pro had R3 and L3 buttons.
Depends on the design of each game.
Games like Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Metroid Prime, work much better with motion controls than a standard controller. Playing those games is proof enough.
I think people are mixing up dual analog vs. IR pointer, as traditional controller vs motion controls and Wii vs. all other consoles. Traditional Controller works better for most games, I think it's hard to debate that. But, when its done right, the motion controls can be amazing for many games. Unfortunately, few games work THAT well.
Now for dual analog vs. IR pointer for SHOOTERS. Dual analog is clunky and slow. It works, it works fine because we're all very used to it, but the IR pointer is much faster and much closely related to M/KB, which is the best control method for shooters. No question. Saying otherwise is ridiculous. M/KB is more accurate, and a lot faster. The IR pointer is the closest thing to that scheme.
Unfortunately, the Wii lacks good shooters period, and that's not an issue because of the control scheme, its an issue with the developers who choose to put certain games on the Wii, and the ones that do, have no idea what they're doing (High Voltage software for example).
But, if you look at Metroid Prime 3 in advanced control mode (as an example) it is an early Wii game mind you, but the response in the controls are amazing and extremely accurate. It's faster than dual analog, and there's no auto aim. The IR works just fine.
It all comes down to preference. If we had the best dual analog controls vs. the best motion/IR controls for FPS games I would easily take the motion controls. Pointing at the screen is not tiring and it works amazingly, and it's smooth. That's not to say I hate dual analog (I'm a Halo addict, admittedly).
But if you're used to playing CoD, Halo, Killzone, GTA, Gears etc., dual analog might automatically be your choice.
I think the Wiimote or even Move, is the better FPS control scheme. Overall I'd say the standard controls typically work better for all other genres.
Who gives what other people think? The fact is, the gaming market will continue to move forward with innovations, and people who want to play with outdated 1997 controllers will be left behind, while real gamers who are willing to try new things will continue to have fun.

everytime i see a wiiu screenshot it has the words "look at screen!" or "look at controller!" on it someplace.immersion means you forget the controller is there and it becomes an extension of your directions.
the wiiu controller forces you to remember it is there and actually instructs you when you are supposed to look at the tv or the controller.
maybe having a realtime map or something might be cool or whatever but other than that it looks like a huge failure and based on the controller alone i don't want to have anything to do with it.
i will try it and hopefully i'm wrong but right now it looks like a terrible way to play a game.

that little dot they used on the dualshock is the same as the dot on the wiimote.
I like dual analog. Eventually something better will come around, I'm sure. However, I always find it hilarious when my pc gamer centric friends complain that they are terrible at the game because of the dual analog scheme. That is NOT a valid excuse, it is just kb/m is akin to "controlling videogames for dummies." I'm not dissing it, but it is much easier--point where you want to shoot, and it shoots there.
Motion controls are not reliable. percech

Motion controls are booty.

This is just funny to me. But I agree. While motion controls are more similar to the actual actions in shooting a gun, they are just not good. As technology implroves, maybe one day they will be better, but for now, mouse and keyboard are the best options for FPSs.

i dont understand? You can change the speed of turning with how far you move the sticks.Well, I'm not a HUGE fan of motion, but I couldn't imagine playing Sin and Punishment 2 any other way. The game controls superbly.

Wow. Seriously? TC has to be kidding.
I agree. The dual analog controls are the least intuitive and precise controls you can have for a video-game. Motion is considerably better (the most precise gaming peripheral, the Mouse, IS a motion gaming device, whether you like it or not).
That's why, imo: Mouse > Wii Remote > Keyboard > Dual Analog.
For practical use I'd say analogs are better. Not every game is better with motion.I agree. The dual analog controls are the least intuitive and precise controls you can have for a video-game. Admit it, you just can't handle dual analog because it's too much work for your Wii mind. Go back to your kiddie games. :P
People who are speaking against motion conrols don't have the required experience to say so.
I've played loads of games and play every shooter with the Wiimote. Heck, I played online games competitiely with the Wiimote against gamepad users.
They work extremely well, especially when you modify the settings to your liking.
It is all up to the developers to make them work.

Good lord, he's actually being serious.
Eh? My copy of Goldeneye came with a nice dual analog controller for Wii games.. OoGlad all the Nintendo sheep are happy without analog sticks because their next console isnt getting any either. Btw, 44-5 in Reach tonight, dealing with dual analogs just fine. Dont cry just cuz u suck more than me.

Dual analog is by far the worst way to control anything. Period. The mouse, pointers, and touch screens are all better.

Seriously? This is what sheep are preaching now, even after Nintendo is downplaying the motion controls with Wii U?
This has to be one of the more absurd arguments on SW.

Oh, so saying that the Wiimote is better is WRONG, eh? People who say that mouse is better have played PC games with mouse for years. Same with the gamepad. If the developers made the motion controls responsive, you customize the setting to your liking and you practice, then its all good.[QUOTE="goblaa"]

Even though the WiiU controller has motion-like capabilities as well as the console supporting the Wiimote + Nunchuck?Issue #1: Motion pointer will never be as good as kb/m because it lacks direct contact.
Issue #2: Touch controls will never be as good as kb/m because they lack a center focalpoint.
The fundamental means by which these controls are used undermine them. Analog lacks the problem with the first one and is great with the center focal point of the second.

That's because a mouse and keyboard is better than a gamepad in terms of precision, personal preference is another matter.
And as for the hypothetical ifs and buts you brought up, I'll respond with something concrete in reality. If I move the Wii mote far left or far right in an FPS game, the movement wouldn't register as it is not picked up by the sensor bar. That alone makes it worse than a game-pad because at least with a game-pad I can do both sharp turns and slow turns without compromising either.

i admit it i have the brain of a 5 year old
Motion control is ok if the game is made for it.
If its just tacked on, it sucks.
And no I don't want to aim a gun with a mouse, I need my controller.
for people like me who grew up gaming with my thumbs, we prefer dual analogs. That is really my hurdle with pc gaming. In pc gaming my thumbs are only used to push one button, usually just stamping down the space bar. When I switch to using fingers (keyboard mouse controls) I lose a lot of my developed gaming ability. PC controls often make my fingers hurt as well.
