[QUOTE="dream431ca"][QUOTE="AtrumRegina"] [QUOTE="Albanian_Killa"] Toshiba again? They didn't learn? Seriously, Blu-Ray is the next disc until another one comes next generation. Blu-Ray is standard HD disc now. No company is going to back a new disc when Blu-Ray is so much more popular. DVD 2.0? LOL seriously get a better nameAtrumRegina
Someones scared ...I imagine this will cut into bluray sales because
1) it's cheaper
2) it's also HD ( albeit only 720p ) but you need an upconevertingg DVD player , HD-DVD ( they are like 20 bucks ) or a 360.
3) Supposedly it has extra storage space.
1. It's too late
2. 720p is not good enough
3. a few gigs just doesn't cut it.
1, no it's not
2/ yes it is. very few people own 1080p tvs.
3.better than nothing.
1. Blu-ray is gaining ground very fast in the movie industry and in the consumer world. DVD 2.0 couldn't even make a dent in that market.
2. LCD/Plasma TV's are becoming less expensive every month, and 1080p is quickly becoming the standard for HD movies. Did people really invest in a 1080p TV to view 720p movies with it? I sure did not.
3. Like I said before 720p is below the standard, both for consumers and the movie industry. I heard that these DVD's will hold up to 24gigs. That's great if you just want them for space requirements only, but the movie industry has set their eyes on Blu-ray.
Another note on DVD 2.0: The disk is a 4 layered disk. I could see that having issues with current DVD players, even though it is claimed to work with current DVD players. There will be problems with this and consumers will get frustrated.
One of the things that gets me confused is why didn't they do this earlier with DVDs? Maybe it's because Toshiba was trying to save it's HD-DVD business. I can tell you that this DVD 2.0 will end up like HD-DVD did.
