BRB adding a 750Ti to my 290X Crossfire for PhysX calculations and Nvidia features, something they have tried to block AMD users from doing forever.

and by the title I mean, to be able to use GPU's of different architectures at the same time.

DirectX 12 will support all of this across multiple GPU architectures, simultaneously. What this means is that Nvidia GeForce GPUs will be able to work in tandem with AMD Radeon GPUs to render the same game – the same frame, even.

This is especially interesting as it allows you to leverage the technology benefits of both of these hardware platforms if you wish to do so. If you like Nvidia's GeForce Experience software and 3D Vision, but you want to use AMD's TrueAudio and FreeSync, chances are you'll be able to do that when DirectX 12 comes around. What will likely happen is that one card will operate as the master card, while the other will be used for additional power.

you know what it'd be truly cool too? For one to be able to use the GPU in conjunction with the integrated card on every fucking Intel CPU. Because it's stupid that with recent Intel HD's becoming so efficient that they have no use other that wasting energy when the GPU is engaged.

Windows 10 DX12 NVIDIA Optimus is a f**k-in train wreck.

Would Nvidia and AMD even allow that to continue if it were true? Surely they won't want to encourage that as it would be saying go out and buy any GPU, rather than just their own brand. It would be awesome though. It would make PC building even more adaptable as time passes. But that would be the other issue, it would also be encouraging people to save their money, rather than buying a new GPU or multiple GPU setup to combat their PC falling behind on power.

I can't see it being around too long if it does happen because of this.

Pretty sure it becomes disabled. You can even do it yourself from the bios.

Yep, I disabled the GPU on my haswell through the BIOS. Having it turned on, made the system go slightly hotter for no gain.

If it really worked I think it would be great if I could just put my old GPU in with my current one, but they're both nvidia anyways, we will definitely need more specifics because currently mixing and matching GPU generations wasn't a thing either.

@Gue1: Sega's add ons in the 90s but they failed so hard that no one seems to be willing to try again. Personally I'd prefer some kind of crossfire with an R9 370 for $100 over a new console.
