EA gives praise to Blue-Ray and PS3

The most noticeable difference you'll see in the Ultimate Edition on PS3 is an increase the visual quality of the game so that it truly stands up to HD Blu-ray definition. A perfect example of this is what you will see in the game's water. One of the huge new features you'll see in Red Alert 3 is an increase in naval warfare and amphibious units. Most strategy games in the past have never paid much attention to navy but we're bringing it to the center. As such, we paid close attention to detail with it and ensured that we maximized its visual aspects, without penalizing game performance even under the most intense of battles.

Another great thing about the PS3 is its use of Blu-ray. We are taking as much advantage as we can of the extra storage space, cramming it full of exclusive features and in game content, including some exclusive new maps for you wage you and your buddies to skirmish battles on over PSN.

Using figures from review aggregation site Metacritic.com, almost half of Wii games released since the console launched in 2006 have scored below 65%, compared with about a third of Xbox 360 and PS3 titles. And 65% is a pretty crappy aggregate score, considering that many game review sites rarely score below 50%.

Raise the bar to 85%, and the difference is even more pronounced: 360 owners can play twice as many games rated above 85% as Wii owners, while the PS3 nearly triples Nintendo's numbers.

All I ask is that devs uncompress the sound for PS3 in multiplats. Unless it would cost them more money to do so, then its understandable.TheGrat1

So they decided to make sure people knew the only unreleased version of a cross platform game, which they likely hope to milk for all it's worth, is the 'Ultimate Edition'. They refer to 'HD Blu-ray definition' with the perfect example being a water effect, which has nothing to do with Blu-ray. They then go on to boast about it offering superior storage which allows them to give more content, leaning to please Blu-ray advantage advocates.

Repeated references to this being the peak version, repeated references to utilizing Blu-ray, lots of enthusiasm increasing wording...

Is anyone else getting the impression this is either a Sony pay off to ensure they get the better version of a cross platform game (something that is becoming increasingly common); or EA is trying to get on the good side of the PS3 audience to milk the last time they will be releasing this game as much as they can?

Either way I doubt EA has become all lubby dubby with the hardest to develop for, 3rd place, smallest install base console because they generally care about it for anything other than being one of three sources of income for this game.

Yay marketing, of course if it were 360 it would be the same.

Next time take time to check your own links. That shows a chart with the 360 curbstomping the PS3 in revenue for EA with estimates for Q4 FY08 and Q1 FY09. Based on what was reported by NPD I'd say it's a safe bet that those estimates were off by quite a bit.
