My apologies if old, but I didn't see it on the front pages.

Basically, when it gets down to crunch time, EA is prioritizing development resources on the 360 version rather than the PS3 version of a given game, because the 360's install base is larger.

This can be construed as either:

1) Bad news for cows because big developers like EA are favoring 360 over the PS3

or

2) Good news for cows because it lends more credence to the phrase "it's the dev's fault" when the PS3 gets the inferior version of a multiplat game.

"In talking about the issue, Richtel cited analysts as saying that development for the PS3 is more challenging than for the Xbox 360 because game makers have had less time with the hardware." Well thats a surprise. /end sarcasm

The rest is basically "EA likes money. More 360's than PS3 have been sold = more money if they get 360 version out first."

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot. Isnt EA focusing on the PS3 version of Burnout Paradise and then since it is apparently easier to port over to the 360, that is what they are doing? If that has changed...nevermind.

Hate to break it to you, but all developers are trying to make money. Of course those that do the grunt work get paid little and are not shallow.

No, he's head of EA Sports.

The old EA president is now head of the Xbox division.

I know why cause They're commercials always have the "Xbox 360 for 279.99",Every person in the Comemrcial is holding a what? Xbox 360 controller. Microsoft is paying for the advertisment. Point blank and simple. Its like they bought a fraction of EA.

Interesting. The only game I'm really excited about that's coming from EA is Burnout Paradise and Criterion have already mentioned that PS3 is the lead platform for development.

I don't think there will be any major differences between EA multiplats in 2008 though.

Anybody that thinks this is anything other than a money issue is sadly mistaken...

EA wants money...

More people have 360s

More people buy 360 games..

More 360 games sold = More money for EA

Thats all there is to it...

It has nothign to do with development time, nothign to do 360 having better hardware.....its just about the money....just like any other company...

There is a positive side to this on the other side of the coin. In the long run, the PS3's many and varied exclusives are what is going to set it apart, making it have it's own uniquely identifiable appeal. Unlike most of the exclusves which will be on the 360, the vast majority of PS3 exclusives will be availible only on the PS3....not on PC as well.

This is a blessing that will take care of itself as more and more PS3 only exclusives come out. In short, watered down ports from EA will not make much of a dent in the killer exclusive line-up that the PS3 will ultimately have. Not to mention all of the other multiplats from other devs that will NOT be watered down.

The PS3 will be fine, and besides, if you really think about it, the fact that Sony is not in bed with a company like EA only makes the PS3 that much more appealing to the 'core' gamer. It truly makes the PS3 more of a 'core' gamers console that relies on killer exclusives that appeal to 'core' audiences to carry it and state what it is all about. I do not know about you guys, but I certainly can respect the hell out of that from a 'gamers' point of view.;)

yeah.thats kinda lucky thought since burnout paradise is probably the only ea game im picking up.
theyre gonna make more money on the 360 vesion because of larger istall base and easier development tools.it just makes sense for them to proritise the 360 version over any multiplat game.

I do find it funny everybody that gets in bed with Microsoft pretty much throws their credibilty out the window. Ubis soft is a shell of what it used to be and we all know EA is simply an idustry prostitute.XBOX 360has a strong presence here in america and is a non factor everywhere else this is why we are subjected to the Microsoft marketing blitz. The fact no one mentions the XBOX 360 sales have stalled for the past 3 months is just brushed over. I am always down for competition but buying your way in just always comes off as desperate, I am as shocked as everyone else but Sony seems to be on the high road as of now. 2008 will belong to SONY and Microsoft has simply awakened the sleeping giant. Sony has been at this to long and been to succesful to rollover for the Portbox 360 trust me.

I don't take it as bad news for cows or good news for cows; this is bad news for everyone. it sets a really bad precedent. A company, who makes a product that is widely popular, will release an inferior version of that product at full price and give the excuse of "we're more familiar with the other console." Look, if they can't program for PS3 then that's one thing, but to release this game at full price when it's nowhere near as smooth as the 360 version is another. I learned my lesson with this years Madden. Won't be buying an EAsports game until they learn the PS3.

EA always just do things for the money, they have no motivation in bringing truley original games that are the best for the format they are on. A good example of typical EA behaviour is too look at the sims2 on the PC and the massive rip-off expansion pack selection that only adds what the original game had anyway plus a little new stuff. Or battlefield 2:MC for the 360, no after sales downloads or bug fixes, they just took the money and concentrated on Bad Company instead.

Dont worry, not every dev is like EA, I just wish were more like valve and the likes.

Sales matter. ;)

Call it greed or whatever you may, but when given the choice between two very similar platforms, I'd choose the one that has sold more.

Not quite, a company always optimizes one system for the game they make,i.e. Madden 08 for the 360, ESPN NFL 2K5 for the Xbox.

They're prioritizing a system that will inevitably be caught by the PS3 in sales, can't do as much (though EA's madden seems to think it can do more....lazy developers) and is the most unreliable hunk of chunk out there. That's EA for ya. Lazy and thinking about nothing but making a profit. What ever happened to the days when game development was an art EA?

I think he's bashing them because they don't support gamers! The PS3 will once again become the system EA develops on and the XBOX fanboys will than understand.

well this is very common, this is one of the reasons why a console should be out before its competitors.
