Oh joy... I just love that kind of talk. You always know where it heads to with games when a company like EA is behind them. I don't personally mind the co-op though. The main way EA could piss me off would be to make it online ONLY co-op. I want to play it locally with someone right next to me if I'm gonna play any co-op in DS.

Virtua_Souls

Did you watch the E3 demo? Steve (game director I believe) said on camera that co-op in DS3 is online only. Which sucks, because that's the only way I'd want to play co-op in this situation as well. No local/splitscreen what have you.:(

You know what game could probably use co-op well and NOT turn into an action title? Amnesia.

I mean, the other games empower you in SOME way, but Amnesia does not at all. If you combined that with no voice chat (like in Demon's/Dark Souls), random and unannounced join ins (like in Journey), and some sort of mechanic to make trust and betrayal an iffy issue depending on who you play with (as in F3AR), and maybe throw in some ways to mess with the player (like having said friendly player look like a monster with low sanity), then you could craft the first truly terrifying survival horror co-op title.

Sorry for the off topic tangent, just an idea I had.

SPYDER0416

Wait..... co-op in Amnesia? I don't see how that would be succesfull, the Amnesia games are very scary because of the feeling that your all alone in a dark castle. If someone is with you all the time, it'll be a lot less scarier.

Well it seems they are doing less horror and more action, but it seriously looks amazing. I like the optional co op aspect, but some things I didn't like were the universal ammo drops and cover system.

Just keep in mind that this is only 20 minutes of the game, and what we've seen so far takes place in act 2. There are environments and scenarios we haven't seen yet, and I'm expecting them to be like what we've seen in past games.

Capcom did this going from RE4 to RE5...
Is there a logical reason then, that the 'horror' games go co-op?

Well rickin' frackin' shoot. I must've missed that part during the E3 demo. Pretty disappointed with that news. I'm guessing that they're focusing on the graphics a whole bunch with DS3 and local co-op is then out of the question. Kind of a baffling decision really. Who wouldn't want to play co-op locally with friends in DS3? It'd be a blast.

I'm not sure what the sales were like, but if they weren't great then I can understand why they're taking this approach. Their first priority is to make money.

Honestly though, gamers are the hardest demographic to please. Every change is a bad one, and a game that doesn't change is bad as well.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. Other games will come along...

Not like Dead Space was ever that scary. I stopped playing 1 mostly because of how boring it was.

After seeing a gameplay footage of Dead Space 3 at E3, I immediately made the decision not to buy it. It's nothing like the older ones. EA have ruined a great franchise.

Dead Space had a good run. Another franchise dumbed down, casualized for the masses & turned into another generic action game. Well done EA, well done.

Another franchise i will avoid like the plague. My list of series i will not support keeps growing & growing by the day. Resident Evil, Dead Space, Splinter cell, Ninja Gaiden, etc, the list goes on & on.

Agreed. It's sad really.

I really liked Resident Evil series, it was absolutely great from the 1st game to the 4th. RE5 is where Capcom have lost their plot.

Now EA have lost their plot with the series.

Splinter Cell is supposed to be about stealth. It doesn't seem to be like it anymore. It's more action now. :(

Meh, the demo they showed off looked like a mix of Lost Planet 3 and Gears of War. If anything, that's what Dead Space didn't need to turn into.

They didn't have a clue what horror was to begin with. Dead Space isn't scary.

Stringerboy
Horror isn't necessarily scary. It just goes to show how much of an effect The Exorcist, Alien, and their offspring have had an effect on horror.

Yet it will be better than Resident Evil 6...... maybe.

The thing is, all games have to be 'casualized' in order to make money from sales.
All the 'casualization' erupted with the Wii. Thats all am saying.

The Dead Space Story is GOOD (movies, comics, virals, animated comics, other games etc) enough that I can take either horror game or so called horror-action game.

im not understanding the hate for this title :\ the coop is OPTIONAL.. you can choose to play the SP WITHOUT a buddy (human or AI) JUST LIKE THE OTHER TWO DEAD SPACES!

Well yeah, the unpredictable behavior of humans and inability to work with them normally is such a ripe ground for horror games like this I'm shocked nobody has done it properly.

I mean, you're in your game, you think you are alone, when BOOM monster. You run into what seems to be another one, but its just some human player exploring after your games merged, and unfortunately his distraction allows you to escape into a closet to hide, while you hear the screaming and dying from the other guy's player character, or a moment where someone else tries to get you caught or closes a door on your face so they can live.

I'm not saying Amnesia itself, but horror games in general have so much potential for the concept. I guess a way to prevent trolling would be to have player resources carry over into a game they join, it worked well for Demon's Souls and the souls and gear degradation carrying over to joined games, preventing trolling, and the ambiguity of enemy or friendly here would mean you don't know if this guy will help you, or use trip you when running from a deadly force.

They're pissing me off with the fact they want DS3 to sell 5 millions units "to survive"

Now i don't know how well DS and DS2 sold but i've got a bad feeling about this.

It's kinda sad and funny that certain apologists seem to remain hopefull that this approach won't butcher the last shred of uniqueness, this franchise had.

History proves that DS3 will be an underwhelming 3'rd person action shooter.

By now, inspiration more or less requires your studio to be independant and/or poor.

A wonderful side-effect of noone reading books anymore:? Mass Effect is popular for it's lore and storytelling, which are both rather weak.

Alot of fans also felt the game was dummbed down in order to appeal to a wider fan base

  • Reduced dialogue options
  • Forced multiplayer
  • Trying hard to appeal to people who had never played Mass effect 1 and 2

Yeah I feel like its good to make it easy for people to get into it late, but why would you want to? Its like only reading the last 200 pages in a 700 page book, or only watching Return of the Jedi and completely missing the other ones. Its impossible for anyone to be able to play 3 and not be able to play at least Mass Effect 2 first (if you have the PS3 version, which at least has the decency of having the choice making comic so you can always play ME1 anywhere else and still get the choice stuff, mostly).

I do feel like streamlining is good, but to a certain extent. Mass Effect 1 had too many of those stupid Mako missions and didn't do exploring right, but it at least felt like you were exploring giant worlds so a few vehicle levels (like ME2 had in its DLC) could have worked. I will say that I still loved ME3 and even didn't hate the ending, but it wasn't the best ending.

Although I agree with a lot of the complaints, the person I plan on doing co-op with screams like a little girl and I'm really looking forward to that.

thats actually a decent idea, but there would have to be a separate coop campaign
