market down again and 60 percent of people fear a depression. I highly doubt people are going to overlook the wii or the arcade for this holiday season compared to the 400 dollar PS3 without a game bundled in it. Oh well..... IM thinking 3-1 the 360 outselling the PS3 this holiday season. Your thoughts....

I have no doubt it will.

But it's not the only one that's going to get hit hard. HDTV sales will not meet expectations this holiday season IMO.

People get a bit caught up in the numbers of presents they get... I will be a decision of one high priced present or a bunch of smaller ones. I prefer large "family presents" myself :P

Sucks when you design a expensive product not thinking about the unstable nature of the economy.

Nintendo is the only game company who has yet to lose any money from this whole mess so far.

Do you think that the down turn in the economy plus a whole raft of other games will mean that games like LBP will get lost for the casual game playing crowd?

you can blame bush if you want. but its not all his fault.

9/11 would have happened no matter what

the war in afghanistan would have happened no matter what

only thing you can blame him for is maybe iraq

the reason for a economic crisis and the Gov needing to bailout the banks is because of clinton and his policies that allowed for it to happen.

I love how people act like there is only one branch of government any more. Never mind the house/senate passed the largest pork bill I have ever experienced in my lifetime.

I might as well watch The View talk about what candidates use Botox.

A little more on topic... I know it will be a rough time but America might just need this recession to get a swift kick in the arse. 20k a year =/= home entertainment system + buying a house + new car + 5 kids + 4 credit cards.

People are already looking to cut spending. I think people on the fence about a console for the holiday season will look at the cheapest option.

No politics in SW! But yes people need to spend within their means, could be a bleak xmas for Sony if people cut back on electronics (not just talking about consoles here)

Hopefully nintendo will realize that they should lower their prices of their 50$ hardware sometime soon.. Or MS can just beat em in sales.

Thats what I think too. The PS3 is like a gas guzzling big truck while the 360 and Wii are hybrids.

as does bush and his putrid presidental rating.

As president you get credit for the good or bad whether you deserve it or not. That's because you are the face people put to the government. And read this link then look at the date:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E06E3D6123BF932A2575AC0A9659C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1"

5 years ago Bush wanted controls on Fannie and Freddie

Anyway I don't think it's going to be just PS3 sales that slack, I think demand for everything might be light this year. I think Ninty will do better than MS and Sony.

you got them backwards because it cheaper now to buy a big truck and it cost the most after you buy it (batery charger xbox live ect.) the ps 3 is the hybrid because it cost alot but once you get you save money (no batery charger, free online).

Well i studied games for Economics, and we saw that the videogame industry is as closed off as we think it is, and really, economic conditions affect it much at all. Offcourse, if we have a 1930s depression, then we can expect something really bad

True, 3-1 outselling is WAAAY to high though, especially since I believe LBP will be a console mover 2-1 is possible, but I think it will be slightly less than 2-1

BioShockOwnz really summed it up. This was Clinton's idea for the American Dream for everyone. Democrats put us into this mess. Not the Bush Administration. Sony won't be hitting 2 so. yeah 360 will still sell more. But not because of the economic problem. Theoretically it might affect their sales but I believe their sales will be what they would've been without this bailout.

ah Bush got us into this mess in IRaq with Lies and you know how much the war cost us Americans? Trillions, we had no right going into that stupid country and we will be spending our money over there and gas prices will continue to rise. You mean peiople who supported the war like both Clintons, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Edwards, Dodd etc. ?

the war has been expensive but it hasn't reached one trillion yet forget multiple trillions

Do you really think the price of gas has anything to do with the war in Iraq?

Sony already announced there wouldn't be anymore price drop for this year. But knowing Sony's track record they can always pull an 180 and announce a price drop or a switcharoo clearance sale.

We still don't know the mastermind behind 9-11, Government has provided no evidence of Osama's involvement

Wouldn't surprise me if the Bush administration did that for more gorvernmental power, patriot act etc..etc..

what war in afghanistan, where have you been at...the war's in Iraq...as far the current president is concern, afghanistan doesn't exist.

People have the right to blame this man for putting the U.S in 4 trillion extra dollars worth of debt.

Defending this man is popostrous, nothing good has happened since this man has taken office.

This is not OT. Republicans have had 8 years to fix any mistakes, so its absolutely ridiculous to lay the blame at the dems feet. For years the Republicans have been calling for "government" to keep its nose out of everyone's business. Of course if you are Sarah Palin you can do that and then in the next answer blame the government for not being more involved and regulating more!

As I said this is not OT, sorry I snapped (I hadn't said anything until now, I had to sit on my hands not to!)lets keep in on topic and SW is not the place for politics.

It is sad, impulse buyer and clueless moms will flock to the Wii. Smart money is on the PS3 because it has "longevity" and its ability to double as a blu-ray player, no AA batteries to replace and no pricey add-ons. Im sure in Novermber/December stores will have package deal on the PS3 that will make it a bit cheaper to attain. But why buy a Wii in late 2008? I mean a already had a Gamecube in 2002 and its identical minus the annoying motion controls.

I have no doubt it will.

But it's not the only one that's going to get hit hard. HDTV sales will not meet expectations this holiday season IMO.

People get a bit caught up in the numbers of presents they get... I will be a decision of one high priced present or a bunch of smaller ones. I prefer large "family presents" myself :P

yeah its gonna be a really tough time, I hope this economy gets off the ground, now you are seeing this effect the global economy. Thank Mr Bush for this mess, the worst president of all time and our stupid country elected him....

ya blame bush cause its all his fault. how about the democratic congress that has been in for like 2 years and now congress has one of its lowest apporval ratings ever. they messed up more in about a quarter of the time. its not all bush's fault but morons dont realize this. and they also dont realize that Bush is actually a very intelligent person he just sucks at public speaking

So why did he go after the wrong person, Saddam didnt knock down the towers, Saddam had the oil that Bush wanted. All the U.S. money went to this war, but yet N.O is still F up. We can go on for day about this.

ANYWAY BACK ON TOPIC

I can see Sony announcng a price drop before next month. Market share is too important for Sony to lose.

ReverseCycology

Sony already announced there wouldn't be anymore price drop for this year. But knowing Sony's track record they can always pull an 180 and announce a price drop or a switcharoo clearance sale.

Once the price drops down I am getting one definitly, they need to so it soon too cauze they getting hit hard by MS and Nintendo sales.

Nope, it's not that simple. When the damage is already done, it's hard to reverse it. Especially when you face partisan BS every single day. Fact is, that the democrats put us here, and for years there were Rupublicans warning about it, yet the majority of Democrats stood up for their buddies at Fannie & Freddie, so nothing can get passed when partisan BS is at an all-time high.

So the econmic diaster that was Regan and Bush Sr had nothing to do with it? It was all Clinton and the huge economic surplus thats been blown away by the worst President in modern history? (Can we at least agree on that? Maybe Carter runs him close :P) I'm not going to debate this any more in here. Its pointless debating on the internet, we're never going to agree who's right and it shouldn't be in SW.

as does bush and his putrid presidental rating.

you can blame bush if you want. but its not all his fault.

9/11 would have happened no matter what

the war in afghanistan would have happened no matter what

only thing you can blame him for is maybe iraq

the reason for a economic crisis and the Gov needing to bailout the banks is because of clinton and his policies that allowed for it to happen.

Clinton made it so people can buy houses. If you get aproved for $250,000, no one told you to go buy a $250,000 house, why not get a $180,000 house, its far from Bill's fault. Bush rather take care of another country rather then his own, N.O and the job market all points to Bush.
