Mario Kart games sucks.

Along what I expected.
This will be the best Mario Kart ever and one of the best games of this year.
Can't wait for this... Anyone know when the GS review goes up?
May 15
I was going to say this review is early. But the gamespot review is also early. Isn't this game launching 15 days after that ?
Yes, but Nintendo always allows for early reviews. They are the greatest developers in the world after all, it's not like they have anything to fear.
Hopefully Mario Kart 8 is a lot better than 7. What a disappointment that game was...
Why was it disappointing?
I'm thinking of buying that or Golf.
It was disappointing in terms of its content- they cut back a lot of stuff, and after how great Mario Kart DS was, it felt like a let down.
It is mechanically still the best Mario Kart game, however, and a whole lot of fun online.

Theres no way it can have less content than the ds. What did they take out?
Now I'm leaning towards golf, but I want a kart game for the 3ds.
It don't care what reviews are I'm getting it day one regardless. Gameshit will probably low ball the game for hits. Not like I take this sites reviewers seriously anymore though.
After what happened with DK, I wouldn't be surprised.
dk got plenty of 8's, that's why its metacritic score's in the low 80's.
Isn't Edge notoriously tough on games????
If so that is a great score from them.
only when it comes to sony exclusives.
Inb4uall and I were obviously talking about GS' review of Tropical Freeze... :|
EDGE is also pretty hard on several other developers/publishers too. Not just Sony. Even Nintendo has gotten this (LEGO City with TT games).
Well yes tropical freeze but there are plenty of other games this site flops for no reason other than hits.

They took out the Mission Mode, the Single Player Versus Mode, and I think the overall character roster is smaller (and shittier) than the DS game. It's just not as fun to play single player as DS was, to be honest.
But again, it's a great game to have if you want to play it online- we often have System Wars Mario kart game nights with MK7 (like, at least once a week), so if you get it, you can join us =)

That's a hefty cutback.
That sounds awesome, though I'm horrible at racing games. Is there like a board to join?

It is, that's why so many people were so disappointed with it, including me. But mechanically, it's perfect- the drifting, handling, tricks, kart customization, kart transformation, drafting, items, all are the best they have ever been.
And nah. Mario Kart 7 has this thing called communities, which are essentially custom servers. If you do decide to get it, let me know, and I'll just add you to it, and we can then play.

For me it was the lackluster track design, inclusion of coins, and the gliding that hurt the game. I've always been a hater of the items taking away the skill element of the game, but I've always enjoyed time trials. The three aforementioned elements hurt that. I consider it the worst Mario Kart as a result.

The track design was amazing. Not as great as Mario Kart Wii, but it was great nonetheless.
How do coins detract from, well, anything?
How does gliding, for that matter?

Coins took away from the joy of cutting corners as precisely as you can to cut down milliseconds in time trial. You kind of had to aim for the coins to get top speed. Gliding made tracks less interesting because they encouraged the use of far too many straight aways. It felt like it added nothing and made tracks less interesting.
I'm really bummed both those elements are returning.

You could always ignore the coins? Coins gave you a temporary boost anyway, and they could always be ignored as long as you had a good kart build.
Gliding was only ever used once or twice in the tracks, and in portions that would have been straight anyways, so once again, I am unsure what your point is.
Especially given that in Mario Kart 8, coins are also boxed items (meaning you don't have to chase them on the tracks if for some reason you decide you absolutely need them), and the track design is incredibly imaginative with twists and curves in literally three dimensions, so none of your complaints hold water at all. Particularly since it seems like you had no issues with those elements themselves, just their effect on game design, and the effects have been fixed.
Same people that gave MK wii a 6? hmmmmm.
Mario Kart Wii was garbage. The worst since Mario Kart 64. And because of breaking Wii's I've had to unlock all the characters multiple times so I've spent plenty of time with the game.
Do people just leave their consoles on for days at a time? How do so many people's Wii's break? I've literally never had a Nintendo console break on me. Those things are practically indestructible.
Wii's have survived so many damage tests online. I call BS on this. Nintendo has the MOST reliable hardware on the planet.
My first Wii stopped reading disks and the second wouldn't turn on. This is over the span of 8 years so I don't see how that's "BS"

In my less career-flourishing days, I worked at a Gamestop, and nearly 100% of broken systems were because of user abuse. There's always the occasional defective console, but most Wii's break because owners don't take care of them.
I really hope this game moves systems.
Mario Kart sells very well in the US, so there is no excuse for Wii U's not to move.
There's a MK8 bundle but no discount regardless I'm certain this will help move new systems...
