I really like edge as a magazine. I like how it is preesented, and how the focus is always on the written review and the score is more of a small after thought. However, I always finding myself disagreeing with the score they give.

Anything that puts GTA IV in the top 3 of best games of this year is a joke to me. GTA IV is easily the most overrated games released this year.Can-o-Mark

I agree 100%

and I definitely think criterion deserve their spot on thier, they brought an excellent game this year in Burnout: Paradise and have updated it throughout the year with additions like motorbikes. All free.

Little Big Planet deserves the credit. Such a great fun platformer, best with 4 people co-op, so friggin funny.

The thing is, none of those improvements are hardware. What really mystifies me, however, is that there was actual, new hardware that was released this year and not years ago. DSi, PSP 3000, new instruments for Rock Band 2/ Guitar Hero, Ion drum set (just off the top of my head). Renominating hardware that hasn't undergone any functional differences year after year is like nominating the same games year after year just because you can still buy them at retail.

As for the awards, they must really like Little Big Planet, which is ok, however saying the Xbox 360 is the best hardware of the year is an absolute insult to good designers. The console is a technical mess, the RRoD is still a big problem. When talking about how good a system is, you don't take about games. You can not build a console from games, and so the system should be reviewed as a system, not as an overall evaluation.

that is software dreams not hardware, the 360 does not by ANY means have the best hardware

No that's from a developers stand point, not a consumer. As a consumer if a console fails several times, and often, it can be considered a technical mess. For that reason it is inferior hardware. Value for money is only one factor of a system, and as the actual technology of the PS3 is superior and it is actually of fairly equal value to the Xbox 360 with additonal costs added, it is better hardware.
