Haven't read the Halo books, but if you're going to rip books off, Ender's Game is a good one.

Not at all, the only similarities are that they raise young children under false pretences.  Either way, the Enders game series is good, I wasn't that fond of the sequels, but the side story, Ender's Shadow, and Shadow of the Hegemon were really good.  Apparently there is now a fourth Halo book, which I would be interested in reading.

The Halo mythos rips off other properties much more than it rips off Ender's Game.

For instance, it seems like most of the military was based off Starship Troopers.

Honestly Halo's story is nothing new. It doesn't mean it isn't an amazing game, but it's story is pretty lackluster. Yes, the first book is pretty much a knock off of Ender's game, even the part of people being inside their heads.(cortana, and in ender's game the monitors)

They are quite similar, but to be fair, they're both just standard helmet-wearing body armoured soldiers. There's not really any other way you could do it.

I'm not thinking about the movie. I'm thinking about the books. The use of powersuits to vastly improve an individual infantryman. Dropping soldiers into combat zones from space. The military being based on a peaceful, Earth-like planet far away. I'm sure there's other stuff I could pick out if I was more familiar with Halo.

There's nothing wrong with that, of course, and Starship Troopers is a very influential book. My post was mostly meant to highlight that pointing out Halo borrows from other science-fiction properties is pretty much old news.
