When is a game considered kiddy?

Like what at what age is the beginning of kiddy..and what age is the last year of being kiddy??

Because everybody says Wii is kiddy...yet i cant picture a whole bunch of 3rd graders all in a group talking about how awesome mario is....but i can picture a whole bunch of 3rd graders standing around saying how "cool" they are because they played Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, Half-Life and Max Payne etc etc etc.....

And it is my personal experience that the immature people only play mature games, because they think it makes them look cooler and older...because they are the only ones that really care about there image...

The "mature" people play what games are fun because they are already secure enough with themselves to realize they arent defined by what games they play.....

Here a picture to prove my point.

The Wii probably has the most mature install base than any of the 3 consoles. My parents bought a Wii for gods sake and they can't get enough of it.

Videogames in general are for kids and teens, even the M rated games. I'm 24 and I have no problem playing childish games like Mario Galaxy. Mario Galaxy is one of the most imaginative games I've ever played and just pure fun. At least the wii seems to be reaching out to adults who think videogames are for kids and teens with games like Wii Sports and it's breaking the stereotype of adults who play videogames as needing to grow up and let go of their video game phase.

Wasn't the average videogamer age raised to somewhere around 21-23? IIRC?

I'm glad the wii was released because it's helping to improve the image of gaming. Gaming before the Wii was somewhat of a social stigma. And now I'm able to play co-ed games with females who are nongamers which is great.

Im not saying its kiddy, but the reason that much older people are playing it is because the games are simple. Alot of older people who got confused or frustrated with all the buttons. Wii is just motion, 1 or 2 buttons and sometimes analog depending on the game. What making this more obvious is the fact that wii play was sold millions being a crappy game, but it has simple mini games for older people who don't like complicated games.

Yeah I didn't mean to say video games are for kids and teens. My bad. I meant to say video games are seen by older adults as being targetd for kids and teens even though there's plenty of 30+ adults playing video games.

Don't own or plan on buying a wii (I can see why people like it, just isn't my cup of tea)

But I have no problem playing games that many (Like my ex that said: wtf is that colorful kids game you're playing? when I was playing Psychonauts) consider kiddy if I enjoy them (I'm 32)

It doesn't change the fact that Nintendo's games appeal more to kids with their easier gameplay and cartoony graphics.

Is there anything wrong with this? No! Do I feel like a kid when I play these games? No! Should an adult not play these games? No!

We need Nintendo to not change its image. Sony and M$ and the PC all have a more "hardcore"/"mature" image. Nintendo continues to prove that you don't need that image to have extremely fun and addicting gameplay. Look at SMG. Yes it is "kiddy", but how many people didn't play it because it looked like a cartoon? Very few. Everybody knows it is a great game and thus they played it.

Also you have to admit that part of the Wiis success this gen was the fact that they stuck to their "kiddy" image. This allowed them to not have to upgrade the graphics really high, implement complex online systems, have a next gen media format, keep a lower price, and make more money on every console. They are quickly reaching 20 million sold way faster than any of the other consoles, so I believe Nintendo has made the right choice.

It is not bad to say I enjoy these "kiddy" games. As you have said, only immature people acuse games of being "kiddy" and tell us to play a real game like GTA. Having said that I can say that they still do retain their more child friendly image, which is actually a good thing. You don't want games like SSBB, Mario, Wario Wear, Mario Kart, and Wii Sports to just disappear do you?

Very good point . I think most people consider "kiddy' as games rated E for Everyone. Which doesn't make them any less fun and exciting, or challenging for that matter.

I get the general impression that gamers between certain ages(teenage Years) have are insecure playing games like Mario... and this is why they hate on them... Yet when it comes to shooting stuff now thats mature and cool...

Dunno this just seems to be what I can gather from being in Game Stores, posters, e.t.c

Ok, your point is fair. Wii appeals to all ages to be honest. I enjoy super mario, metriod, and what not, but majority of the people i know who own a Wii are my relatives kids or friends kids or cousins. Alot of games for Wii appeal to the younger audience, and yes, you do get some kids who play violent games like GTA and Max Payne, poor parenting if you ask me.

Your pic of a kid playing a Ps3 aint anything compared to the following:

I don't think the TC is trying to change your opinion... I think is more of b*tch about some gamers "I won't play Mario, because it looks kiddy" and the "It has loads of guns and you get to shoot stuff so its mature and cool" attitude

Why are there always so many threads like this. I agree with the T.C., but it seems there are more anti "Wii is kiddy" threads than actual posts bashing it for that.

Here a picture to prove my point.

it doesnt change the fact that when I go to EB and look at the Wii games theres a buttload of crapware aimed towards kids that I have no interest playing. I love SSBB and SMG as much as anyone else, but the rest of the games for the most part are lousy "cash in on the success of the Wii" games.

That's an entirely different arguement altogether. But to answer it, it's all a matter of opinon. There are plenty of wii owners who are more then happy with the selection of games available. Just like there are wii owners (or ex-wii owners like yourself) who aren't satisfied with the selection.

sadly this will not "end" all wii is kiddy posts, fanboys are a different breed

i thought we were through with those kind of remarks that try to mix up everything.

everybody can sports games no matter what is the age, and thats a fact. and everybody is curious

about the wii controllers, thats also is a fact, the wii is a cool console unfortunatly with last gen

evrything, so i dont consider it this gen anyway, and i think it should be sold at toys-r-us...

now, the wii got some mature games and we know that (even if they look like crap on a hi def tv).

but most of the wii games are for kidds especially mario games. ive played mario games when i was younger and i enjoyed them.

but now i dont any more, im just too old for that.

so yes, overALL the wii is a kiddy console.

Cowboy Bebop?

The Simpsons/Family guy?

Just like anything else, cartoons target a wide audience. Colourful images or family friendly content doesn't mean the target is the kids alone. Additionally, just because america(for instance) has decided to target a certain audiance with a show doesn't mean that said show is not "mature" enough to be respected/loved by an entire other group of people.

The "mature" people play what games are fun because they are already secure enough with themselves to realize they arent defined by what games they play.....samiup

they guy prolly already have played the motorstorm demo to death(like most of us have :D)
and is trying out the wii now while the little girl doesnt seem to care about games at all and really just want to have her fathers attention?

The guy also prolly thinks the PS3 is a horrible system and simply enjoys the Wii better (like most of us thought when it came out). The possibilities are endless.

yeah, and maybe the guy is some kind of psycho or somthing. LoL

Exactly. And the kid prolly isn't even his kid but some girl he lured into the store with candy and a puppy dog. *cough* Sry, I'll stop this now.

they will never stop calling the Wii "kiddy". first it was that the Wii wont sell, then it was that it had crappy games, now that both of those myths have been proven wrong by facts, the whole "Kiddy" image one of the last thing the haters have to complain about

The Wii probably has the most mature install base than any of the 3 consoles. My parents bought a Wii for gods sake and they can't get enough of it.1nverted
My Grandparents have a Wii and the last console they bought was a Genesis, and the last console they owned was an SNES it was actually my Cousins but they gave it to my Granparents and now the SNES is Broken.
