They aren't ruining gaming they're expanding the audience, just like the PS1 did years before. Most gamers now wont be gaming if not for the PS1 bringing in a lot of casuals some of whom later became serious gamers. Before that gaming was supposedly "uncool" and only for nerds.

And a similar thing is happening now, wii is broadening the audience again, bringing more casual. But some here seems to think they are royalty, and gaming is a prestigious club that only a chosen few should enter. Well TOO BAD, like it or not Wii and its bandwagon are here, "get N or get out".

This is just to satisfy my curiosity, but what games on the PS1 appealed to the same audience that Nintendo is currently trying to draw? (i.e. What game matched WiiFit?)

This is the kind of restricted thinking am talking about(no offense). Why does it have to have appeal to the same audience asthe PS1? hasnt that audience been tapped already. Why fish in a barren pond?

Things I've learnt this Week.

1 - E3 can still bring some suprises, in turn, converting this place into a pig-sty.

2 - Apparently, one game can cause a holocaust(I prefer Apocalypse... Maybe it's too strong of a word) on the industry.

3 - Hardcore gamers can be threatened by the likes of... WiiFit. ( :|... )

Anytime you make you main big game announcment at a major event a game like Wii Fitness you know the company is headed for a different direction. Sure Nintendo will still release the Mario Zelda, Metroid for the Nintendo loyalists. I honestly think Wii will be like the GC except it well sell higher and will have worse quality titles. There are other things like the fact they still dont care about online and are making games more simpler.

When I was 12 or so and the PS1 was out and about, I felt Parappa the Rapper was trying to rope in people who didn't play games.

I believe GTA and FIFA would be good examples.

It's not that, it's that longtime gamers feel that Nintendo is selling itself short, and they don't like to see such a company lose itself .

That's a little ironic, when you can't even speak English correctly.

DId you not see the Wii Zapper and did you not notice that Reggie said in Mario Kart newbies will be able to be very competitive with the Mario Kart experts or how about the fact that Twilight Princess takes the cake for being the easiet Zelda game. This is something Nintendo would have not done before. Did you ever wonder why companies like Capcom aren't releasing much titles for the Wii.

I don't know...if that's true, then the definition of a nongamer has changed. These current Wii games are meant to draw in a nongaming audience, but once that has happened, what then? Will we suddenly transition to "hardcore" games to appeal to that same audience? No. Nintendo will stick to its current nongaming plan and will never come out with a game parallel with GTA. It's not as if gaming moves in shifts: First we will have nongames! Then once those people are hooked, we will give them casual games! Then, come the hardcore games! Ah, the process has finished, we will now transition to nongames once more to draw in a larger audience!

I didn't go into specifics but when it comes to 3rd party that will probably happen. But Metroid Prime 3 will not be better than Metroid Prime 1. The game played a lot more like an FPS and the AI was horrible in that demonstration.

That's a misconception. Nintendo have effectively tried to get everyone involved with gaming for a long time. Naturally everyone is but currently nothing Nintendo, or other companies for that matter, has put VGs on the pedalstool it should be on in the form of home interactive entertainment. Nintendo have made a game that can appeal to everyone, like so manygames that have existed before, and it gets the same treatment said non-gamers give for not getting into a game like GRAW... From core gamers.

It's still hilarious everytime I hear that. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Though I hate to admit it, thats pretty much how the system works but on a smaller scale.

I think the term 'Non-gamer' and even 'Hardcore' is used far too loosely. It sould be stapled as 'Newcomers' and 'Veteran' games and gamers. Sounds much more intune.

What I noticed of the transition, FIFA example, games started to become more lifelike and more mature. It was a growing up transition for games. If you pitt the last FIFA game made on the SNES/Genisis to what came out on the PS1 you can see the transition. It attracted a wider audience and grew. It's somewhat the reason why so many feel so much nostalgia to the games pre-Playstation.

The same thing is happening again this time round.
