There is not one single person in here that will work for free. People should get paid for their work. That's the way it's always been, and it won't change.

Sure, PSN is free, but they chose to charge devs instead. Which is fine. MS chose to charge $50 a year for Live, and that's fine., Live is the better service, and I have no problem paying MS for their hard work.

It cost money to run a service like Live. Some companies try to make money off of it in vaious ways. Be it ads, charging for clothing, and furniture, etc. The point is, the money has to come from somewhere.

I don't understand why cows believe that everything should be handed to them. Be thankful when you find something that's free, but you shouldn't expect it. All of these threads are just making the cows look cheap. IF you don't like, don't like it. That's your choice. But don't bash others that do. It's a very simple concept. I don't see why most people can't comprehend it.

I think you are the world first perfect consumer. It's always been free on the PC, why start charging for it?

Pretty much. $50 a year is chump change for me. I spend like $50 bucks just for gas a week or so, so yeah. Playing video games is my favorite hobby and I'm willing to spend money to enjoy what I love to do. The PS3 was the most expensive console out of the three but like I said I love video games so I spent money to get it. In my opinion if you don't like spending money, playing video games shouldn't be your hobby.

What would my $40 dollars a year be going towards? Dedicated servers? The software integration (which doesn't cost them anything)?

To me its not about the cost, its about the principal. The cost is not justified imho, a one time cost maybe, but a yearly cost is milkage. I don't see where the money goes other than to line the wallet of that fruit of a CEO they have running the show at MS.

Really this again? this has been talked about a million times already. If you feel thats its worth the cash fine. I dont think its worth it.

This argument hasn't really been brought up all that much, it's mainly the other side that has been flooding threads, it is nice to get another perspective.

If Xbox Live added dedicated servers for ALL (or most) games I think it would be worth the price but right now it just seems like they are ripping people off even if it is only $50 a year.

Doesn't work that way when you are paying for nothing. DLC royalties are more than enough to finance the live network, as is the advertising. The Live Gold fee shouldn't be there, simple as that. And considering its the only network on a system that *forces you to pay in order to play your games collection online* - even next to the free Games for Windows Live service, it remains a nice example of a massive ripoff. Sure is XBL is better, doesn't stop Gold from being unwarrented. Like it or not, thats how it is.

There is not one single person in here that will work for free. People should get paid for their work. That's the way it's always been, and it won't changeMortalDecay

If you only work to get paid for then that is your business, others might work voluntarily in some jobs to enhance the participation soul or just for the sake of doing something good, others might only want to have money for their own reasons which is fine but if one day you were waking and by mistake tripped on your feet to almost fall in a death hole and someone there caught you saving you from a deadly fall then he simply said "you owe me your life, you should work as my slave" then that would not be so cool. He saved your life and thus you should have been dead, would you really become his slave?? :? Yes, you should pay him for his work but he should not ask you to pay for that because it is not a good merit.

Another example is us here discussion and advising each others, if we should pay for these discussions or ideas then this forum would have never existed!!

Bottom-Line:

That is how I see it, some jobs are free not because they should be free but charging for them would be freaking stupid, that goes for my online play which it would be stupid to pay for.

Strange thinking I know, :P but that is one of my believes

MS does the same stuff that steam does and they charge money on top of that. That $50 is just cash in their pocket.

XBL is ripping people off while lemmings will unquestionably defend it to death.

I fully understand that complainers can be annoying but the truth is they actually IMPROVE our gaming experience. In the business world companies only get away with what WE let them get away with and they sell us goods at prices WE decide are worth purchasing. And if we don't like what we are getting compared to other competition we have every RIGHT to COMPLAIN and speak with our money. So no TC, I strongly disagree with you. Here is a small list of things that improved this gen. because gamers felt they deserved more for their money and complained:

- Virtual Fighter 5 online play for the 360

- Cheaper console models

- Constant firmware updates for PSN

- HDMI, 1080p, Wireless controllers becoming standard on the 360

- Extended Warranty for RROD and E74 error

- Sequals to games being much better and having more features then the original

- And the vast amount of firmware updates that fix bugs on games released too quickly for both 360/PS3 games

So no, don't dis-way people from complaining because they push businesses into action to fix the problems. Obviously we won't always get exactly what we ask for but instead of free, cheaper prices may be the compromise or more features to justify the purchase. So to all you gamers who think those crybaby petition writers are hurting gaming, your wrong, they are VASTLY helping gaming and giving businesses the feedback they need to better appease us as the consumers. That's how it works, businesses try to sell a little for a lot and we try to buy a lot for a little and somewhere along the way businesses find that sweet spot that makes us happyand them a profit if their smart and successful.

I love it when people here claim that feature this or concept that really costs MS nothing and should be free blah blah blah

Considering that none of us are privy to Microsoft's balance sheets, that's all just speculation. The real answer is that no one knows except MS.

I prefer to stick to what I actually know:

  • I know that XBL has a certain set of features.
  • I know that I use enough of those features enough of the time to justify the subscription price for me.
  • I know that different people will have different ideas on what features are useful to them.
  • I know that my judgement call on the service is not a universal truth that I can force on others.

I hate being nickel and dimed for things. I want the goods and the option to pay for content. Xbox has gone back to a business model that pieces the experience. But, now that I've seen how bad piracy really is on xbox 360, I guess they're going to need the fee to ofset the cost.

I understand the market is more favorable to the cheaper system, but it is hard to deny that out of the box features and functionality; PS3 is by far the best option.

And still claim it was a launch 360 that never RROD on them too.
