Epic continues to own Steam Assassin's Creed Syndicate free all week starting (now)

Good news for the many millions of Assassin Creed consumers. The smash hit epic action-stealth blockbuster is now free, for a limited time Assassin's Creed Syndicate is yours, if you sell your soul short-term so the industry can get fucked at a later date once it's the dominant platform.

It's free, all you will lose is time and a dignity, probably never had any to begin with, so no big deal. Gobble it up.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is free on the Epic Games Store this week

Epic returns this week - one hand waving Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the other wafting Faeria - in another grapple for your affections, and with another batch of Epic Games Store freebies to jam unceremoniously into your increasingly unwieldy backlog.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Ubisoft's Animus-enhanced excursion into the smog-shrouded streets of Industrial Revolution era London - has a lot to commend. It offers another gorgeously convincing bit of period design, has a wonderful pair of leads in the form of wisecracking twin assassins Jacob and Evie Frye, and its score by Austin Wintory is utterly sublime.

It's definitely an Assassin's Creed game in the old mould though, and its creaking traversal and somewhat by-the-numbers open-world design pales in comparison to the fluidity and extravagant scale of the more recent Origins and Odyssey. Eurogamer's Tom Phillips liked it a lot back in 2015, however, awarding it a Recommended badge as he celebrated its "solid new adventure, beautiful London playground and renewed sense of fun.".

I think AC3 is the only game I ever played and finished. I have a bunch of them on Steam.

I have it on Steam, but I only played a small portion. This actually tempted me to play again. Pip-Pip Cheerio!

All of all the shitty ones they picked the worse. At least Black Flag’s piracy is fun.

Good on Epic for offering some free, albeit older, AAA titles. That said I got Unity free from Ubisoft months back ad tried it out, and have absolutely no idea why this series is so popular. Invisible walls everywhere and only very specific interactive locations to "parkour" with, and mind-numbingly simplistic combat with no threat whatsoever. Combine with dull unimaginative writing as well. If that was representative of the "AAA" gaming experience, then I'll be happy to stay with my indies, AA developers, and niche titles.

Ah, I think I understand why they give free AAA games to everyone. Its so the monthly concurent users seems high. Not gonna complain free stuff is always nice.

At least UPlay offer Black Flag for free last year and it's still one of the best AC game around.

Edit: Oh and will by adding Syndicate since I really never played it. Ain't gonna say no to freebies.

Edit: Holy shit, by the way. Look at the number of AC games. I recently wrote "can't wait for AC 17" in a post as a joke on Ubisoft making a shitload of AC games. Wasn't far off, apparently.

Great game. I loved playing as Evie so much and barely played as Jacob.

Really enjoying syndicate love the Victorian London setting. Got the Jack the Ripper DLC to get through as well looking forward to that.

AC2 was trash, syndicate was, origins was but come on. black flag was truely great. only time i feel like AC is actually good.

Bitch stfu, it's the same shallow ass combat, the same binary ass stealth system, only now we added a really dull ass boat mini game on top. It's every bit the colossal bore that the other ass creed games are, I'm sorry that I like my games to do this crazy thing where they play well.

But as for AC Syndicate, I don't think it got enough love. Great story, great setting, and frankly I loved the dual-character setup; how you had the brother who was a hot-headed brawler, then you had the sister who was the calm and stealthy one. It made for a good mix of things.

Pad those stats! Gotta look good for China state-owned Papa Tencent.
