err did Sony just pay Gamespot large sums of cash for those GOTY nomine choices?

Granted I haven't been on these forums for a while but I don't see why Gamespot nominated MGS4 and didn't nominate Gears for GOTY. Either the gstop employee who was responsible for GOTY nominations was Japanese or his 360 had a RROD issue and he's po'ed at Msoft? since when did PS3 exclusives get into GOTY nominations without any 360 exclusives up there.

People stopped actually listening to gamespot, there reviews and there opinions around 2 years ago. The only ones that cling to it now are fanboys who happen to have the site swinging in their favour, they quickly jump ship again a month later when it swings the other way.

In other words: Don't let it bother you, there opinion is about as valid as a 5 year old to the mass gaming world outside of SW.

People shouldn't assume just yet, you should wait until they announce MGS4 as GOTY and then that's when you start assuming they paid big bucks.

Seriously, stop making conspiracy theories now. Gamespot has chosen MGS4 over your game. Does it mean your game sucks? No. Get over it. This is getting worse than all the fanboy rants last year after rewarding Super Mario Galaxy GOTY.

The graphics category may seem odd, but Gamespot clearly stated their reasons for why they chose MGS4 over the other games.
Lastly, I don't think Sony or any company had to pay anyone to to boost up MGS4's reputation. As some of you may have already noticed, much of the GS members here already think MGS4 is the best game of the year, and one of the greatest games in years. Yet we don't get paid squat for our opinions. Just accept it already, MGS4 is a tough competitor, and it isn't there because undertable briberies were made. People do actually like the game. Does that make it the greatest game ever? That's up to you to decide. Just quit the whining and enjoy the games for a change.

Firstly, this is sytem wars, this is precisely the place to discuss the nominations and awards for GOTY and to question/ discuss possible reasons. People are also allowed to suggest reasons they believe a game got a particular award, ok?

Gamespot did NOT clearly state their reasons why it gave MGS4 Best Technical Graphics over Crysis Warhead. They kinda skimmed over the top. There is no way on earth it has better technical graphics than crysis.

sorry but that is ANIMATION not graphics. If there was an award for best animation then sure, why not but this isn't. In every other 'technical' graphical aspect, Crysis Warhead surely wins. Think about textures, bump/normal maps, lighting, poly-count, DX10 features, water effects, shadows, volumetric atmospheric....Crysis Wins!

Surely MGS4 should win Artistic Graphics, no?

While there were a couple of nominations that I didn't agree with; particularly on the same issue with Warhead not winning best technical. Throwing conspiracy theories around is a bit over the top and sadly somewhat predictable. The instant I saw MGS4 winning multiple "best of", I had a feeling someone was going to pull the pay-off by ______ card.

Frankly, Warhead should have been a no-brainer; MGS4 looks good for a PS3 game, but on par with Warhead? Even the first unmodded Crysis puts MGS4 to shame.

I'll just give Gamespot the benefit of the doubt since I don't know what their criterias are in regards to best technical. There may be certain factors that are accounted for when considering multi-platform nominations and who knows what "technical" is characterized as.

You are exactly right. This is SW, and we have our right to express our thoughts over these games. At least your post was more constructive than others with valid reasons why you think otherwise. It's just the fact that many people blindly cry foul over the game just because their games didn't win over it, and that there was supposedly undertable bribery taking place. You do know that companies like Sony and MS often endorse and back websites, journalists who review a given game. It's common practice in the industry to try and sway favourable reviews.

Like others have said though, no one would pay such a suggestion any attention until MGS4 beats a game like Crysis Warhead in graphics.

people whine about mgs4 beating crysis in graphics, when they dont understand what they mean by technical... do you think they would put in the word technical if they didnt mean anything by it? no.. if it was a straight up graphics competition, it would have been called "best graphics", not "best graphics, technical"

It didn't produce crysis graphics, do explain the technical graphics award with a serious face.

Here is my theory on the graphics award, I think it takes into consideration the platform. So for instance, as I said in another topic, if SotC was made this year and it was in the running, it would probably win because of what they were able to do with the PS2. It was a great technical achievement as opposed to getting Gears2 or MGS4 graphics on the more powerful PS3. Just a thought :P...and this has gotta be the first time I heard this place called Cowspot :lol: And before you start flaming, I actually voted for Crysis:Warhead.II_Seraphim_II
