Well Survarium just got kicked out of the "Stalker-like MMO thing" game. Can't wait to see more.

I keep waiting for something to happen with that game, but it still all this time later seems to just revolve around pvp deathmatches....is the open world ever coming? :(

To be honest I don't know. Stopped caring about the game ages ago.

I think thats about the same response i would get from most people :)

I had early high hopes for that game, such a shame.

Since when is playing with inventory menus considered game play?

Since it takes less time to use and gives a superior gameplay experience for KB/M than a typical console-UI which only shows 1 panel at a time in small lists? Simplified versions (as found in the last few Bethesda/Bioware games) are less intuitive, cumbersome, and more annoying to use with KB/M, and actually makes the gameplay suffer.

It might seem overly complicated and pointless to a casual console gamer at first glance (as your uneducated response shows), but it works exponentially better for KB/M.

I still salivate for the Morrowind UI when I play shit like Fallout 4 and it's pretty (for gamers like you) yet absolutely horrific UI.

Casual gamer? I must have missed 60 Minutes, what is it you're trying to say?

Oh, yeah, and when you have the time, please explain how something can be both simple but less intuitive.

The mechanics seem rad, but they lost me at MMO and with loot there, I could easily see the gameplay turning into loot rpg shit, and loot rpgs are for people who suck at video games.

Play fallout 4, oblivion, Skyrim, and fallout 3 on KB/M. You'll see what I'm talking about. The UI's suck for that. They are simple in that there is only one viewable panel at a time with a small list, but this severely hampers what can be done and results in a lot of screen switching and scrolling. It's a nightmare and the first thing modded out.

Morrowind's looks far more complex, cluttered, and scary.... but the reality is it's far easier, smoother, and faster to use. I kind of laughed out loud when I saw your original post about this games UI, I instantly knew you don't play many PC games.

In short: It's great. I want more PC UI's like this.

That inventory is pretty spot on, I like that you can do real time weapon modding, aside from the Crysis games not many others do it.

Nobody cares if its announced for consoles as long as it isn't dumbed down. Only consolites wishes games remain exclusive to their respective consoles.

How were the menus convoluted. It looked nicely organised, and it seemed to rely heavily on the "drag and drop" design we're all familiar with. An example of a poorly designed interface is one that lacks information and requires you to open up or cycle through numerous menus to get the information you need.

System Wars bro. This way, more people visit your thread. And I think it's a good thing if it comes to Consoles later. Devs will get more money and more people will be able to play it. What matters is a game targeted for PCs first. Here you can see huge difference in design if you compare it to set piece heavy Console shooters. They can port it to mobiles later if they want.

@Cloud_imperium:

Well, my post was also also a system wars post :)

It's all subjective. There are many linear PC exclusives, in the same way that current gen consoles already proved to be capable of pretty big and non scriped shooters (Planetside 2, Battlefield 4 with 64 players, etc).

I do agree that second and third party games should be available for all systems, though. Even better, there should be cross gameplay between all versions.

Looks cool. Very similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but those graphics looked on the level of what the consoles could do. It looks good, but not something that'll need the latest and greatest GPU to run.

Hardcore shooter heavily design with mouse and keyboard tend to usually stay on pc like Arma because they would require mechanics to be dumb down to actual work on console. A inventory UL like that with a controller? That would no work well its clear it would require a overhaul for anything else .

Doesn't matter, the fact the game and its UI were designed for PC first and not dumbed down to some halo/cod trash is what is important. Not some later scrappy port.

They have always found ways to port gameplay, menus and inventories to consoles. Dune 2 for the Megadrive, Warcraft 2 and C&C for PS1, etc, etc...Divinity and Wasteland 2 are two recent examples of complex games working perfectly on consoles.

There sequel didn't show up on console later on like warcraft 3 became gameplay became much more complex that why RTS games mostly stopped showing up on anything other than PC and were rarely successful outside of anything else . The other you mention are turned based games that were much easier for them to implement a controller UL because they never had the same level of management like RTS games had. A shooter with Arma level of complexity would not work we;; on anything than a keyboard unless the developer were willing to heavily dumb their mechanic.

Dude, i posted 5 examples, but there are hundreds of them. I'm not saying that a controller is as intuitive as a mouse for fast paced point and click games, but with good optimization any game can work well on a console.

Compare Warcraft 2 with Warcraft 3 and you will see how different the gameplay are with each other. The games complexity evolved greatly after the 90s with a lot of micromanagement your not simply controlling a few units at a time. Most of the game you used are very old RTS way back who's sequel didn't show up other than PC. Wasteland and Divinity were no less complex than XCOM 2 or VC because they revolved around turn based.

Good Optimization means dumbing down game mechanics.

Both have turn-based combat.

You can map the controls to a NES controller and they will still be playable.

I'd like to see you make Dota 2 work with a controller.

convoluted probably isn't a good way to describe them, but given the amount of information they hold they don't make good use of screen realistate, put massive amounts of things into giant lists... like fallout 4 has a lot of going for it but I'd give my left nut for some sort of management desk you could put in the game, lists of people and jobs they are assigned to, maybe a list of things in each town so you can easily check to see if you set up a beacon, max power... It's poor usability but I think that's less to do with it being a controller and Bethesda being really bad at making interfaces.

But it wasn't just one big list, everything was divided into "containers" (backpacks, pockets, etc), and you can see a list of filters besides the the loot window. I just hope it lets you filter your own inventory. Fallout 4 (and any game with an interface designed primarily for consoles) is an example of bad screen real estate because they are designed to work at a low resolution and to be usable for a person sitting a few meters back from the TV.

The interfaces don't even use the entire screen, consider fallouts pip boy, it shows on 2/3's of the screen, shows inconsistent data depending on the tab, the misc/junk tabs get so overloaded looking for anything in them is ridiculous. Skyrim's wasn't as bad but the misc/keys secitions get really overloaded, same with spells, being maybe having show/hide feature or pin to top of a list, additional sorting features (2hand vs 1hand..., helm vs some other piece of armor). It was functional but the bare minimum.

I may have gotten your comment mixed up. Granted I wasn't too excited about the inventory system shown, I really don't want to have to look through each bag/pocket, That's just unnecessary when I want to find an item.

Meh. We need a proper Stalker sequel. As in someone capable buying the rights for the game, getting the old gang back together and making it happen. None of this MMO nonsense. Couldn't care less.

Lol if someone thinks that inventory is "convoluted". People are so used to playing dumbed down mainstream games that actual inventory looks "convoluted" to them now.

God forbid, if you have to play the game yourself and achieve something by overcoming obstacles and immersing yourself into the game's world and experience the game as if you are actually there in the virtual world.

Rather listen some military guy shouting in my ear, while telling me what to do and help me progress by opening doors that can't for some reason.

Games are about having fun and needing to think about what you're carrying and how to use it is not fun. Besides how's that inventory system going to work with a controller?

A game with a huge emphasis on survival... and they are giving people who pay for the more expensive editions:

  • More inventory space
  • More items
  • More money

So basically you buy the standard edition; you are screwed.

What an awful business model.

Hm, I don't know. I'm not that interested in the genre and I'm not sure whether they can deliver.

Another multiplayer game.

Shame, because it looks neat.

It looks good from what I have seen but I dont know enough about it yet to want to pre-order it. I was hoping that getting into a beta would help me decide but it looks like that will be a paid beta now. Ill wait this one out.

Now this got me interested.

Previous footage made this game look like a CQB-centered PVP shooter with minor exploration elements.

Now it looks like goddamn Stalker 2 and i like it.

It definitely is inspired by STALKER but STALKER is more than just its visuals, its the ambience, settings, backdrops etc etc. Without the anomalies, the mutants, the radiation storms and the utter hopelessness that pervades every corner of Chernobyl, I don't know if the game can fill that hole the Stalker games left.

Still, one of my definite buys of 2016, if it releases this year.

Will this be just as AAA as let's say Satellite Reign which was supposed to be the "new and amazing Syndicate" and when it gets rated 6 no hermit will ever mention it again?

Just kidding, I'm interested.

Is Satellite Reign that bad? The Steam page and reviews are "Very Positive". I'm about to make it my last purchase of the Steam Sale...or alongside Dark Souls 2....and Lords of the Fallen...and maybe I can squeeze Sunless Sea...Space Engineers looks tempting too. ****.
