[QUOTE="Verge_6"]Hey, OP. What do you think is going to happen when Halo 3 comes out in 3 months? Think the 360's are just going to sell at the same rate they are now?HarlockJC

Mario Kart on the GC sold better that Halo 2 did outside of the US, heck Mario Sunshine did better outside of the US than Halo 2 did....So I would not expect that Halo 3 is going to change Europe sales of 360s that much

I'm talking worldwide sales. The OP brought them up some time ago.

My bad I thought you were talking about outside the US......that what I get for just jumping in

It's cool. That's what the topic was originally about, but he, for some strange reason, diverted to worldwide sales.

Also why is it a price drop is expected to spur PS3 sales but it won't spur 360 sales? Sony is more doomed than MS is at this point in Europe.

As far as price drops. Microsoft and Sony are in a stare down...each one waiting to see when the other will drop price.

SemiMaster

I do agree though with the report that both the 360 and especially the PS3 are due for price cuts, you need the lowered price to penetrate a market of consumers that want the systems but refuse to pay launch prices.

"Maybe when it's cheaper I'll pick one up". I hear that SOOOO often with people, doesn't matter the console, but the fact it's even 300$ keeps a lot of people away.

I believe the British Special Air Services said it first :

"He who dares wins"

And I believe this price drop standoff will be settled once someone makes a move.

I personally think MS missed the opportunity to drop the price. They should have dropped at least $25 but more like $50 when the other consoles launched. Just keep the sales going. Besides more sales == more revenues from game sales. A few game sales would make up for that loss.

Then when the PS3 drops its price MS could once again match the drop. MS may have missed the best time to strike, but since it's past we will never know.

Going forward it's hard to say who should drop first.

Sony NEEDS the drop but costs are still too high and MS can more afford to drop the price. Maybe they are waiting for Sony to announce a $100 drop and then MS announces $125 cut! MS is waiting for Sony to announce first so they can match or undercut them. But in the process of waiting the wii continues to sell and the 360 falls flat.

Why would someone want to pay the same price for technology they could have bout about 1.5 years ago. They are expecting a price drop.

That is I think Microsoft's mistake right now. Why are they waiting for the price drop? They should have already dropped the price and tried to finish of the PS3.

From the article the main thing I got from it was, more crap games on the Wii that appeal to the most casual of gamers.

But the long term benefits of a price drop now would be huge (could almost be a 2 console race, as the PS3 would be dead last, but that won't happen now).

You could really cripple the PS3 with a price drop, but they aren't doing it.

Not always true. selling more consoles means more game sales which Microsoft makes money on each one. If they end up 3rd place again they will make even less money then they could have if they had beat sony and wii.

-Renegade

like i said before sales will pick up when more games start to be released. people are not buying ps3 because they are waiting for the BIG games like gta 4, mgs 4, ff xiii, etc...

Most people who want those games already have a PS3, by your logic

The 360 will never win. Lemmings actually thinkingit has a chance is beyond me.

It failed in Japan, now failing in Europe, you can't win with only the US.

I would say it might reach 30 million units... shipped.

The X360 seems to be selling at the same rate it was last year. Infact, it seems to be selling at the same constant monthly rate (better than the PS3). Sales haven't really dropped........................ they just never picked up much. Hence no brick wall.

http://www.vgchartz.com/eweekly.php?date=39243

Just browse through the weekly sales from April 2006 to June 2007 and you will see what I mean.

Could you possibly be a bigger Sony fanboy hypocrite?

I can say the same things with all the games you mentioned like MGS4. Everyone waiting for that game already has a PS3.

But I'll take you a step farther.

2004. Sony fanboys claimed Halo 2 wouldn't push Xbox sales at a time the PS2 had GTA SA and MGS3. The Xbox outsold the PS2 that holiday season.

According to Vgcharts.com (sony fanboy's favortie site) the 360 is outselling the PS3 in Europe.

You should add that it also sold more than MGS 3 ............... close to 2:1 . MGS 4 is not about to change Sony's fate................... and neither is Lair or Heavenly sword (the only real exclusives that will be released this year on the PS3 that are worth looking forward to).

Basically, I agree someone needs to make a move, because the other will follow suit at some point. And if the wheels aren't greased soon enough, there just won't be any way to make the gears turn. So let's not waste these months with piddly 100k units sold, drop the price, get new people to buy them and be on your way.

I just still think that Microsoft is clearing stock of the old 90nm models right now.

how can 360 win if it's only selling in the usa?

-Renegade

Is it the hardware failure?

You've got selective reading. The article sees Q4 of 2007 having the potential to drive sales with anticipated titles. That's the intuative response. The fanboy comback you're obviously looking for would be, "At least teh 360 is selling in one market! Teh Waitstation isn't selling anywhere!!!"

the 360 has been out almost two years, this late in the game 360 should not need a holiday push to push system sales even further. 360 should already be selling great but as you can see that is not happening.

Could people be afraid of 3ROD?

You mean like the PS2 when it had its price cut to keep sales moving along? All consoles drop price over time. It keeps them selling. Also they start to get some fantastic games later in its life. Obviously a holiday push is needed. It spurs gamesales and console sales.

Didnt Microsoft said there wont be a price drop for 360? Anyways, things change so there may be one. And Sony will drop the price soon, they are already trying to choose how much can they afford to drop it. If Blu-ray players are already below $600 then production costs must have dropped, meaning PS3 can afford a price drop. But hey thats just me

All of the guys who are saying wait for the games are fools. The PS3 and the 360 really just priced themselves out of the market.Systems don't really sell until they hit $199 (that's when middle to low middle class people can buy the systems witout selling off one of the kids) maybe $250 (the Wii has proven this to this point) add to that the economy isn't doing so hot especially for the have nots (that's the majority of PS2 owners now). Heck I had to sell my first born :D to get a 360, but seriously these systems cannot sell at the same rate as past generation at these prices if you think otherwise you really are a fanboy and a fool. BTW the middle to low middle class people are the ones you call casuals.

The economy has been going like gang busters in the US. Ever since the recession of 2001 it's been nothing but up up up. We are do for a slow down though, but it isn't here yet.

It would be interesting to compare how Halo2 affected sales for the original x-box, to what Halo3 will/wont do for the 360.

Have you ever asked yourself the economy for Who? Not me, and many other people I know in my income bracket and below. Heck most of us lowly people have been struggling for a pot to Wii in for a while now. Oh and I would consider myself a middle class person combined household income is in the mid to high 5 digits. Heck I have to visit the sperm bank for gas money every week (just kidding although that's not a bad idea:D).

Well when one says the economy is doing poorly it's referred to asa whole. Sure in a bad economy some do well, but most do poorly. In a good economy most do well (like today). If you're having it rought, just say that. Don't blame it on the economy. Everyone has ups and downs and most people do describe themselves as middle class.

Some would call me rich, but I refer to myself as middle class.

I agree with you as the economy is going great for a select income bracket. We are doing ok only because we don't have any kids and we have 2 incomes that would put us closer towards the higher middle class bracket. However, with gas prices high, any extra income has been hit hard for us and I can imagine even harder for the majority of the middle class.

Theres no denying PS3 sales are mediocre, but don't try to Damage Control the fact that 360's sales are on it's way down there too. Kthxbye.

[QUOTE="DGZeus"][QUOTE="mikasa"]The economy has been going like gang busters in the US. Ever since the recession of 2001 it's been nothing but up up up. We are do for a slow down though, but it isn't here yet.mikasa

Have you ever asked yourself the economy for Who? Not me, and many other people I know in my income bracket and below. Heck most of us lowly people have been struggling for a pot to Wii in for a while now. Oh and I would consider myself a middle class person.

I can say this I work with a lot of families, I mean a lot, and I can tell you most if not all are struggling to keep food on the plate. I won't tell you what I do because it's really noboby's business but know that I deal with more than 100 families a year and I've been doing what I do for 6 years (that's circa 500 - 600 familes in total)I think I have a better grasp of what us lowly people are going through.

[QUOTE="FrenziedRaldo24"]With all of the media surrounding bad PS3 sales, people are forgetting that the 360 is losing steam in the US also. It's only outselling PS3 2:1 now, and it's sales have been declining every month.Ontain

i like how it's ONLY outselling the ps3 2:1. heheh. that speaks pretty badly for the ps3 as well if you ask me.

2:1 isnt bad considering the fact that the 360 has been out for a year and PS3 has only been out for 7 months

Well if your job is to help poor people....guess what you'll spend your time seeing?
Instead of going by anecdotal evidence look at real data and you'll see the econsomy has been roaring since the recession that started at the beginning of 2000 and maxed out by 9-11 attacks but we were out of that within 6 months. Now keep in mind a growing economy is the signal of the end of the recession; however, it still takes time to recover. And we have fully recovered since then. Do a little economic research you'll see. Now people are predicting a down turn going forward. But they've been saying that for years.

Are you saying you're noticing an increase in the poor people in only the last 6 months? If so, what do you attribute that to?

Wii is outselling both combined. That is was everyone expected the ps3 to do. It's not. And it selling slower than a console that released at the same time as it and selling slower than the 360. For the playstation brand name...that is a complete failure.

You do know data or #'s can be manipulated to say what ever it is you want to say. Just like there are more manufacturing jobs right,of course that includes manufaturing burgers since that's what it is clasified now. Look all I can go by is my personal experience because the data doesn't mean squat to a family of four with less than 40k between the two adults because of their new manufacturing jobs. For the record I do work with some extremely poor people but I also work with high middle clas people as well and I'm telling you they all would tell you your data is full of holes.

No one said anything about the Wii first off. Although your right the Wii is outselling the PS3,you'd have to be a fool to denie it. This is mostly because of the hype of the Wii-mote. but the point is, the fact that the 360 is only outselling the PS3 2:1 means the PS3 is in good shape(not the best shape but still good shape).

exactly. it's only a failure if you count the brand name. putting that aside, it's doing very well as a system that costs $200 than the competition and has no AAA exclusives. but when those things change...

I have to admire all the optimism in this thread from an economy doing well to being outsold 2:1 and at least a 7 mill console deficit despite price and Halo 3 as good shape. It's great stuff.

The fact that the PS3 can't keep up with the 360 is not good news at all and it's why sony is firing high level people.
