7.0 is pretty good. Even if it getsa 7.0 here I still think it's a good score. This game looks so over the top and so stylish, it's not for everyone and may very well be a little limited on the gameplay. I am disappointed it's short. But I'm the type that prefer's something new and different that is experimental with a lesser score than another shooter with a better score

its eurogamer. Dont know whats up with their review system/method.

nitekids2004

For the score:

The thing is that, quite often, their score will come NOWHERE close to what they write. I read their reviews, and will probably agree or at least understand where they're coming from, and then the score will be a reflection of the Negaverse version of the game. This is why it's important to actually read a review folks. The score doesn't always reflect the whole thing.

"Gamers who have been clamouring for adult content for Nintendo's Wii are to be sorely disappointed. MadWorld is as juvenile a videogame as Barbie's Horse Adventures. Of course, juvenile doesn't necessarily mean that it's in any way suitable for children. Quite the opposite, in fact. After all, Barbie never got to dip her pony into a flaming oil drum before ramming it onto a spiked wall. Eyes first. Repeatedly."

Not gonna lie this part made me giggle with glee.

7 is not that bad of a score, there's hope for it yet.

It's a pretty odd score considering that the review finds nothing wrong with the game, except that it is hard.

Just goes to show that scores suck.

It's all about the persons experience and obviously it was 7/10 good.

That's great and all, but if the reviewer cannot bring up any evidence to support that other than "it's hard" then we are inclined to discount his opinion or "experience..."

7/10 is a great score for Eurogamer. I suggest people read up on how Eurogamer actually score games before bashing.

" A seven in Eurogamer speak is something we greatly recommend you have a good look at before you buy, because you can bet many highly regarded games over the years have been awarded a seven. If you're a fan of the genre in question then there's a very good chance you'll get a lot out of it, and often you'll hear a game's vocal following doing their best to boost its chances. Conversely, many detractors will seek to kick it down even further. A seven suggests you're into the idea of the game you should still try and check it out - you might like it more than you think, or be able to forgive its less than brilliant visuals. Or maybe it looks good, but the camera issues were just unforgiving, or maybe the AI wasn't up to much.

Over the years, in gaming parlance, seven has become almost the real 'average' score, but this is nonsense that we wish was flushed out of the scoring system with many publications terrified of giving certain games - particularly those of a great significance backed by big ad campaigns - less than this mark. Often giving less than seven is deemed to be the point of no return, with this considered to be the psychological barrier at which point people decide to buy at or not. But we're resistant to the idea and believe seven equates to being a very good score, and one that should be given more credit. In Eurogamer's eyes, it's still a great game, but one that is likely to sport a few areas where the game is blatantly let down - to the detriment of its overall quality and enjoyment. "

Eurogamer has excellent written reviews but I always feel their scoring with most console games is a bit off. I haven't played MadWorld yet so I can't really say much in its defense.

Alright, not really "crushes," but 7.0 is a lot lower than the hype.

Keep in mind they've scored a lot of games lower than the average.

From 1UPs -A Review

"With the exception of Suda 51's No More Heroes, the land that Mario built has not exactly been a hotbed of adult-oriented action games. After spending several hours making my way through the mostly monochromatic (blood excluded) streets of MadWorld, I must say that the gamble certainly paid off."

but my quote says its adult and yours says its juvenile. What now? :(

Some people really need to read the above.

this is how all publications should be writing their reviews. it seems only eurogamer and edge maintain that fundamental understanding of mathematics that indicates that five is the middle of a ten point scoring system and subsequently is what should be given to mediocre games.

A 5/10 is average. A 10/10 is fantasic. 7 is haflway between 5 and 10. So I see that as "good not great." Eurogamer does not specify which of those words describe its number scores. The game isn't for everyone, like Eurogamer defines its 7/10 as and I don't see that as a "great" game by their standards.

im pretty sure he means that EG normally scores below the average of the other review sites. so an EG score of 7, would translate to a 8-9

Eurogamer says it's great. :?Hexagon_777

*sigh*

That is my interpretation of Eurogamer's scores. Of course, we're not allowed opinions on here anyways...

By Eurogamer's standards, I see them thinking Mirror's Edge as a "good, not great" game because it isn't for everyone. I don't agree with the score but that's how I see their opinion of the game.

Referring to this? :P

10.0 seems fine either way, 10.0 means "prime" not perfect remember

On gameSpot. I am sure it's different in the rest of the gaming world. :P

Indeed. All opinions and other signs of independent thought will be moderated on the spot. :P

Seriously though...sometimes it drives me nuts how people can't just read a review and disagree with it, and instead scramble to find inaccuracies, patterns, or anything else to detract from it.

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]

"Gamers who have been clamouring for adult content for Nintendo's Wii are to be sorely disappointed. MadWorld is as juvenile a videogame as Barbie's Horse Adventures."

I've been saying that to myself since I first saw the game and lost interest.

But it is a Eurogamer 7... so that means it is "good." Not great and not average.

SAGE_OF_FIRE

Incorrect. A 7 on Eurogamer does in fact mean great.

yeah 7 is like 8.5 - 9 (which I dont like that they do that since it brings down the overall scores of the game)

I do actually like it since Eurogamer uses a bit of common sense when handing out scores and they justify what a 7 means to them quite well in my opinion. It's just that the overall majority of other gaming review sites have a twisted notion of 7 being the new average.

[QUOTE="OICWUTUDIDTHAR"] I've always thought their reviews were written terribly for most games honestly.789shadow

Have you read their Guild Wars review? It was awesome. :D

One sparkling diamond doesn't change a sea of crap.

Some in this thread have said that they are crap, others have said that they are brilliant. Who to believe? :(

A 7 from Eurogamer is a 9 from most other sites...

Is 7 the only thing Eurogamer can give?

No need to get smart with me. I was focusing on you saying that "Eurogamer does not specify which of those words describe its number scores." which in the case of a 7 out of 10, they did. I didn't disallow you to have an opinion, so I repeat, there's no need to get smart.
