Eurogamer Halo Reach preview: HYPE AAAA (56K)

I also gotta say that REACH looks sick. i read a long article about it in Game Informer this month and i feel like this is gonna be the first Halo that i'm really gonna love. I felt the other games, Halo 3 in particular, kind of went for a younger audience. But Bungie said they took a darker, more serious approach to this title. The screens look good, the characters seem to have personality, and the premise seems like it is setting up a good plot. Cheers to Bungie finding themselves again!

@burstfire. i ran into a thread you had saying that Alan Wake has better graphics than Uncharted 2, which kind of backfired on you after multiple posts pointed out the differences in Uncharted 2's favor. I'm curious why you mention Killzone 2 in the name of this thread? I personally think you are pulling the lamest thing people on System Wars can do, and that is acting like you have a ps3 when you clearly don't. I could be wrong, so feel free to post your PSN and prove it. Just something i've noticed. All your posts bash the ps3 in some way, and myself and everyone i personally know who have both a 360 and ps3 are very pleased with the Sony, if not favoring it more all together (like myself). I never said Alan Wake looks better graphically just that it's more advanced technically and it's comparable to Uncharted 2.

I do have a PS3 ( PSN ID: Sicknature91) so message me or w/e and i'll get back to you tomorrow. I don't have anything personally agianst the PS3 but I just like the 360 games more. I have the top exclusives on the PS3 like MGS4, Demon Souls, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 etc (check out my id). The only reason I put up Killzone on the topic was just for jks...alot of ppl are comparing these two games so I was like this is system wars so why not keep the battle between these two going lol. I don't hate KZ2 it's just that it got boring after a few weeks.

In terms of alot of PS3 exclusives they are all great but they just don't have the lasting appeal like the 360 ones do (GeOW, Halo, L4D etc.) that's the only thing I have against the PS3.

Yea i can't even front, Killzone 2 was definately underwhelming. There are some games that don't live up to the hype, but are still good games, but Killzone 2 was the definition of a pig with lipstick. The graphics were great (though the greys made the game very ugly and uninspired), and shooting felt the closest to actually shooting a gun, but it just wasn't fun, very repetitive, and i'm still convinced the story didn't make any sense, if a story even existed between set pieces.BigBoss96fs

The only real bad thing about KZ2 was characters and story. When it comes to fps 99% of the time the story and characters are meh.Everything els felt fine to me personally and it never got repetitive.

Definiatley looking forward to this game, i cant wait for it! Halo 3 still remains of the best MP expeirences this gen.

killzone 2 is just too boring and mp is kinda whack imo, the game is just pure graphics

It was decent enough. But i followed the hype for many years. i watched the game release, get pretty high reviews (though nothing spectacular), and i waited. i waited and waited for the game to drop in price because the demo just didn't do a ton for me. i finally caved and bought it because i kept hearing about it, and maybe it was just a case of being way overhyped for me, but i just couldn't get too into it. the best thing about killzone 2 for me was the skirmish mode. i play a lot of online shooters, but sometimes you just wanna run around and own the enemy, but campaign is too linear or structured. thats were skirmish mode with bots was amazing. also the multiplayer mode of switching game types through commands from your team leader was pretty awesome. the multiplayer was strong and i really enjoyed the Team Fortress 2 approach to classes.BigBoss96fs

Yea i was there too for the very first vids and reviews. I was on this game like crazy and got it day 1 and it personally met my expection. It felt and played great. What I really loved was the weight to the game. Its personally one of my favorite fps this gen. Proboly number 2 number one is half life and its episodes. Do those count?

I'm looking forward to this game. Been playing Halo 3's MP for ages. Need something to take over. This and Bad Company 2 should be alotta fun.

I might actualy buy a 360 if this game is like CE.

If they are truly returning to the roots of what made Halo so great, then count me in. I'm very, very pleased to hear they're bringing back the health packs, and they've also mentioned the gun sound FX are going to be reworked. They were pathetic in H2 & 3, it sounded like they ran on AAA batteries. I want the rumbling bass from the original back. I also hope they will polish it up to CE standards.

It's looking good so far, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Been let down twice in a row. It'll be a pleasant surprise or nothing at all.

Hope the 4-player co-op at least supports matchmaking this time!

- The single player is going back to the CE roots

- Will have improved Forge and Theater modes

- Huge enviorments

- Large scale battles

- More awesome vehicles

- The same refined controls with four player splitscreen online and offline

- Firefight mode

- A brand new engine

- A more darker and grittier story

This game takes everything good from each Halo and combined it into one game. If Halo CE got a 9.7 just for an awesome campaign I don't see this getting anything lower than that.
