What are your thoughts on the only two new IPs shown? Unless I missed one?
Only two new IPs shown?
What about: CrossfireX, The Gunk, Grounded, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide (technically new IP but the WH universe isn't new so I'd understand not counting it), As Dusk Falls, and Tell Me Why? Allegedly, there was quite a few new IPs shown at the pre-show as well.
Granted, some of these titles aren't my cup of tea. But The Gunk looks like fun (kinda reminds me of Metal Arms mixed with deBlob... remember those games?). Intrigued by Darktide and As Dusk Falls. CrossfireX looks super generic, but it's also made by Remedy and I love Remedy... so conflicted on that one.
As for your original question, glad Obsidian and Rare are making games they want to make instead of being forced by MS to chase trends (that's my biggest hope with Microsoft this gen. I cannot wash my mind of the great evils MS committed by making the talented Rare a crappy Kinect studio. Ugh...). No gameplay really shown so I don't have much to go on. But I've definitely got my eye on them. LOVE the art style of Everwild.
I not gonna lie. I'm really excited for Avowed. And I hope it's everything they can make it be. I just hope it's free of Microsoft bullshit like GaaS and MTX. Let them make the game they want to make.
Still ain't expecting to see this game for years though.

I was specifically referring to Xbox Game Studios.
Any time a developer utters some variation of the following sentence: "we view our game as a live service that grows and evolves over time" RUN FAR FAR AWAY AND RUN FAST.
We heard the same shit with Sea of Thieves, Anthem, Fallout 76, Drawn to Death, etc.....
It just means they did all of the fun parts of game development, the easiest, creative, and most instantly rewarding parts like creating an Intellectual Property, creating beautiful artwork, animation and prototyping, but they dont have any actual ideas about what the game is so they just developed the barebones skeleton of a videogame.
A barebones skeleton with no meat, which they are THEN going to sell to you for $60, and hope you'll wait around for 3 years while they figure out what the hell their actual game is, and add "content" to it. Oof. That word "Content". I remember when it was just called a "buying a video game".
We heard leaks from ex Rare devs from the Sea of Thieves days, claiming that Rare themselves didnt even know what the game was, and didnt really have a plan.
Thats another red flag. The fact that this game's trailers are super vague about its nature like this, and its not exactly clear what the purpose of the game is. Im honestly convinced they have nothing other than a brand name/logo, some assets/environments, and some animations of characters running around in an UE4 sandbox. Any one of us could do that. I myself could do that. (though at a lower quality obviously. Im not denying the objective quality of the art/animations). Nothing about random (albeit nice looking) character models running around in an UE4 sandbox that one guy on one computer in his house somewhere could throw together impresses me, and doesnt lead me to believe they have an actual game beyond the trailer.
Another thing we should be weary of (Esp. in the wake of games like Death Stranding) are games that base their entire marketing strategy around how "look how weird we are, were sooooo different and vague, I wonder what this game is about". Look, Im all for games being vague, but if I get even one wiff that this is being used as a lampshade to mask the fact that you yourself dont even know what your game is yet
@StrongDeadlift: Well, you are not wrong. I just did a search for any information the gameplay and this appeared. I want to work for Rare because its seems like you are paid to just sit and wonder. LOL
“Part of the reason we haven’t talked a lot about ‘Everwild’ is because we’re still feeling a lot of these things out. We’re still playing around with gameplay ideas,” Duncan admitted.
“We’ll have plenty to say in the future on that, but … we have an idea we feel really passionate about, and we think there’s something special. I have a team of people that wake up every morning with the desire to make this game that they’re really, really passionate about,” he said. Link
Zero gameplay. So until they can show gameplay, these games don’t exist to me.
When you've had the drought that Xbox fanboys have experienced, you don't even need actual gameplay to get excited. Studio acquisitions and 12 second CGI announcement trailers is all it takes.
@Pedro: No idea what Everwild is about, but I am getting some serious Studio Ghibli vibes from it, so I am interested.
Also Rare is pretty great. People give them a lot of crap for Sea of Thieves but that game is simply good fun. I just don't think it has enough of the modern mechanics (specifically loot and leveling) gamers have become dependent on in order to feel like they are having fun.
Avowed, well it is Obsidian, so I am hyped. Trying to think of an Obsidian game I have not enjoyed and I can't.

Whoa boy, the amount of abstract words used in that drivel I just read is physically painful lol. Such cringey nonsense. Yea, im not going to be an early access pre-alpha tester for your game, and PAY you for the trouble.
When you hire a bunch of "ideas people" to make games for you, this is what happens.

yeah, the world needs more craftsmen, and fewer artists.
That Rare game looked real nice, but even they don't seem to know what it's going to be. It's hard to get excited about something when it's just pretty visuals. What happened to starting with a solid gameplay concept and building from that?
