[QUOTE="yodaddyninja"] It's better than bragging about how people in the UK can now rent DLC for a game that came out two years ago. And while you rent DLC for Fallout 3, people will be playing New Vegas.

yodaddyninja

why cant i do both?

You live in the UK right?

I would just get the GOTY so the DLC you download are actually yours to keep.

Remember, you're renting the DLC not owning it.Fightingfan

Actually I'm pretty sure you are wrong.

You get to keep DLC, themes, and avatars regardless.

It's just the games you don't get to keep if you let your subscription lapse. Not sure if that means they stay in your download list or not, but it's not like they will just "block" the DLC like they can with games. There are licenses for the games that are downloaded, and in fact many of them check your "rights" before starting the game. When your PSN+ lapses the rights management will reject you from starting up the game. It's not the same with DLC add-ons, there is no such "license check", thus you should be able to play them forever. And from Sony's language it sounds like they don't even remove them from your download history. The specifically say you get to "keep them forever".

EDIT: as far as this Fallout stuff goes, I don't really give a damn about Fallout 3 DLC. But it's a sign we might get some 3rd party content on PSN+ afterall...

I love it when people pass of PS+ as a stupid rental service, while paying to rent online. People with 360s, who like to play online, you're planning on resubscribing to live before your subscription runs out, no? The same applies to PS+. When you're going to pay for your online again we have the option to keep paying to keep all of our games. PS+ members stop paying, we lose a few games we've probably already played and beaten. 360 owners stop paying, and they can't play online.

You mean once their subscription ends the DLC becomes unplayable?

I picked up Fallout 3 GOTY many, many months ago, so this doesn't really phase me. All the DLC stays with me forever and I don't have to pay for Playstation Plus to get it. lol!!

Not really jealous if you have the GOTY and bought it on EBay for less then $40. None of the content is ever lost and you don't have to pay monthly to keep the content active. There's no Epic Fail. The facts are the facts.

I'm not defending PSN+ because I would never buy it, but from now on when someone talks about 360 games that have multiplayer I'm going to remind them that they are "renting" the online feature.

Online play is not standard with 360 games, you must "rent" that feature. :P

When your subscription to PS+ expires you can't access the content anymore.

Also the content is UK exclusive.

Just like when XBOX Live expires you can't play online anymore... So I don't see why you guys are complaining

Yeah.. but every game supports XBox Live. Same can't be said about PSN. XBL has it's perks.

Of course i'm not even downloading this even though I"m a + member and know it's free (although might be just eu members anyway). Either way, I have no plans to play Fallout on PS3 even if all the DLC were offered free. I've been saving that game and New Vegas for when I get my PC up and running soon.

You may not mind paying but it is still piss poor to have your online yanked from a $60 game unless you pony up $50 soon to be $60 dollars per year.

FlamesOfGrey

Or you can pay $8 a month which is chump change.

Yeah, it's not actually about the money to me because I can afford to pay $100+ a month for both XBL and PSN Plus each. The fact is I don't appreciate having the online portion of my games locked out unless I pay $50 ($60 in two weeks) a year. CCG & Party System are decen features but aren't worth $60.

they are worth it if you use them a lot. me and my group of friends use both of those features nearly every night. £35 a year is NOTHING

I dont pay for the service, and will say it is hypocritical to say one is a rental service while the other isnt.

Nope just the multiplayer on every single game you've ever purchased. The feature you supposedly paid for when you bought the game, seeing as it's listed on the box. A feature others get for free. Just sayin...

True, IF you use them alot. If you only want to play online but don't have the need for those features for whatever reason such as being a casual online player wanting to test out your games or something, you're paying for extra stuff you don't use. Sony said they will be adding CCG to PSN Plus and I'm sure they'll do the same with the Party System whenever they get around to it. Core online will stay free for the remainder of this generation at least and I think that business model is best.

Ability to play online will though....

Multiplayer map packs = rented

online features of GTA4 = rented

Playing games like SFIV online = rented

I think you knew what I meant but it's ok, not the first person to play coy in SW. ;)

Still better then paying $50 oh wait $60 in 2 weeks a year to unlock the online portion of your $60 games either way and no, I don't have PSN Plus because online is free. :)

i don't mind paying because I know it's premium service and I use XBL far more than PSN.

If you call PSN+ moronic Live is even more moronic since it is not even a rental service but a service to let you play games you already paid for. In terms of moronic service XBL >>>>>>>>>>>>>> PSN+

I agree, Microsoft made a very wise business decision. It's the early adotping consumers who stupidly IMO paid for and cemented it that are the problem.

I wouldnt say it was stupid in the beginning. There really wasn't a decent online service like it on consoles then, but yeah the people who think it is worth it in this day and age, when everyone else does it for free, are delusional.

He makes a point.

Animal-Mother

well he is wrong. you get to keep all dlc, you dont get to keep the monthly games.

No you don't, you keep the content as long as your a PSN + member

this is not from my personal experience, but this is the info i found:

DLC is something that you are able to keep forever. My 3 month PS+ subscription expired 2 weeks ago and I was still able to play the MotorStorm: Pacific Rift DLC and Killzone 2 DLC that was provided in PS+. Although, one thing I never tried was seeing if the DLC was still in my download list and if I could download and reinstall it. I know for sure you'll be fine playing the Fallout 3 DLC after your subscription ends, but I'm really not sure what you can do if you accidentallly delete it and need to redownload it. Anyway, please make of this what you will!

£35 a year is NOTHING

Vinegar_Strokes
No. Nothing is nothing. Like you pay for Skype or Teamspeak.

Seemed like speculation of what will happen with Fallout dlc. Thats what I got out of it.

Not bad. I knew the foolish "It's not free, you're renting it" debate would raise it's redundant head, I must be clairvoyant.
