Played the Wii for the first time a few days ago, and think it's great, and has the potential to produce a number of very innovative titles over the coming years. For me though, it it a party game machine - just like my dance mat and karaoke games. The bulk of my time is spent playing more traditional games, and then the game pad is my choice.

I'm very happy for Nintendo's success. Have always loved them and mourned their shrinking market share over the past generations, but for systems wars purposes - they are not in the fight anymore.

Buying? Its not even in stock to satisfy demand.

N64 was only a failure relative to the SNES.

N64 still sold 35-40 million consoles worldwide.

If Wii achieved that this generation, they would make huge profits, and couldn't be called anything less than a major success.

It is true. Sony sold 100 million ps and ps2's.

40 million is  a huge failure when its 20 million less then the SNES and 60 million less then a brand new competitor.

i cant be silent when people talk up ps1 and ps2 sales... i personally owned 3 ps1s and 4 ps2s... as sony consoles tend to break often...  and i know i am not the only one becuase out of all my freinds only one of them that is right one of them only had to buy 2 ps2s as their 1st one broke.  i think in reality only 30-50 million people own ps2s that work.  the rest are in garbage dumps hanging out with E.T. for the atari!

Even in the darkest days of the N64 and GC, Nintendo never posted an annual loss.  Still remained quite profitable. 

So "failure" isn't in the vocabulary.

You want to talk about failure, let's look at the multi-hundred-million dollar losses that MS's Xbox and gaming division REPEATEDLY reported because it was such a garbage console.

If the Wii sells more than the Gamecube did then that will be a success, as it will be the first time a Nintendo console sold more than its predecessor.  Every Wii sold past that point just increases the size of the success.

All indicators seem to show that the Wii will pass the GC's total fairly early in its life. :)

            Yes horray for "N" taking another so so gimmick and making it the new craze ! It's been their way since forever ! Yes they have had success but one would think by now the masses would have seen through this marketing ploy.

            Most seasoned gamers have become wise to their MFG. of the phenom but suckers are born everyday !

The wii IS and will continue to outsell the 360 and the PS3.

I think many fanboys and "hardcore gamers" are in for a rude awakening... the Wii's price, and pick up and play fun have made it the new choice for casuals and non-gamers, the lions share of the market.

You don't know what you are talking about, still you're talking. Electronics in general have a 5% failure rate under warranty, and need to be replaced. There are multiple ways of measuring a console's success, your guesstimation is not one of them so why don't we stay with the ones we know, like units sold?!

I have had a slim PS2 for 2 years now and it works perfectly and I even bought it used, I still have a PS1 that works perfectly and it was one of those slim mini ones. I dont see how people are complaining that the PS1 and 2 had hardware problems because they were miniscule compared to 360's hardware defects which were massive by comparison. Disc read errors are nothing compared to over heating, disc scratching, hardware melting and faulty harddrives so people shouldnt wine about how bad one little hardware problem is.

I have 3 PS2s for a different reason. 1 normal black PS2, one slim PS2 and a Pink PS2 (I bought it for my sister). Loads of people I know own both the standard PS2 and the Slim PS2. I reckon there were around 50-60 million different PS2 owners, not 120 million like people suggest.
