[QUOTE="CelineDion"]

[QUOTE="AfterShafter"]Same claim that was made about the N64 early in its life. Better luck second time, eh?Bread_or_Decide

Even if this were true, (which it isn't)

N64 was only a failure relative to the SNES.

N64 still sold 35-40 million consoles worldwide.

If Wii achieved that this generation, they would make huge profits, and couldn't be called anything less than a major success.

It is true. Sony sold 100 million ps and ps2's.

40 million is  a huge failure when its 20 million less then the SNES and 60 million less then a brand new competitor.

Losing market share...is not success. Just ask the gamecube.

I agree with you 100%. Losing market share is not a success. Just ask the PS3.

I've had only 1 PS2 launch model that still works....but only because I had to open it up and clean and adjust the laser *twice* using the self-fix guides you can find on the net. Thank god for those or I would have had to replace my PS2 twice. My neighbour\friend's PS2 is finished and can't be fixed using the guides because it's a certain model. Warrenty's expired for both of us.

[QUOTE="frankeyser"]i cant be silent when people talk up ps1 and ps2 sales... i personally owned 3 ps1s and 4 ps2s... as sony consoles tend to break often...  and i know i am not the only one becuase out of all my freinds only one of them that is right one of them only had to buy 2 ps2s as their 1st one broke.  i think in reality only 30-50 million people own ps2s that work.  the rest are in garbage dumps hanging out with E.T. for the atari!SER69

I have 3 PS2s for a different reason. 1 normal black PS2, one slim PS2 and a Pink PS2 (I bought it for my sister). Loads of people I know own both the standard PS2 and the Slim PS2. I reckon there were around 50-60 million different PS2 owners, not 120 million like people suggest.

why on earth would you want a slim one and a regular one?

Because it looks better, takes up less space, and is silent. Plus I buy all consoles

you have a n-gage, a gizmondo and a phantom? :O

haha, yeah don't make too broad a statement.

Not everyone on gamespot,Wii is being bought mostly by casuals as they make up 90% of everyone who plays games, most people on gamespot are gamers and we want big bad ass sequels galore.

I have had a slim PS2 for 2 years now and it works perfectly and I even bought it used, I still have a PS1 that works perfectly and it was one of those slim mini ones. I dont see how people are complaining that the PS1 and 2 had hardware problems because they were miniscule compared to 360's hardware defects which were massive by comparison. Disc read errors are nothing compared to over heating, disc scratching, hardware melting and faulty harddrives so people shouldnt wine about how bad one little hardware problem is.

Who are you kidding. I am one of the few who refuses to pay for a second console if the first craps out on me. And let me tell you the ps2's original model had major issues. Of my dozens of friends who own it, I am the only one with the original, and my original can not read blue discs, dvds, and it periodically freezes. Thanks Sony. On a brighter note, my 360 and wii are running like dreams. The 360 is great, and I still feel the wii has promise, and if it doesnt start pulling things off well, then I can just ebay it for 400$ at a profit. No biggy.
