Poll Everyone Seems to be Bandwagoning on PC (92 votes)

console gaming is dying 70%
loud minority is loud 30%

Compared to any other generations the PC bandwagoning seems to be stronger than ever. It doesn't matter to what forum, youtube video or related gaming website you go the comments are always flooded with PC trolls even when PC is not related to the topic at hand. Even N4G, a place known for its rabid Sony fanboys seems to be flocking to the PC side. The only place I know where console gaming is still respected is at neogaf.

Is this the end of consoles or just the loud minority making a shit ton of noise? It has happened before, at least with games where lots of people make noise and then it still flops sales wise.

Console gaming is clearly dying. I mean, these new consoles are just selling atrociously. Die all ready!

PC gaming just offers a better experience at a lower cost than the PS4 and Xbone. It also offers a better experience than the Wii U, but the Wii U costs less and is still worth owning even if you have a gaming PC due to its incredible first party lineup.

PC gamers and, well, just normal gamers in general don't give two shits about sales.

I don't have stock in Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, or any game developers...so why do I give a shit if a game is a financial success or not? If it interests me, then I'll play it. None of the profit it makes is ever making its way into my pocket...so...whatever.

A good gaming PC offer the greatest gaming experience, period. I'll still always have a Playstation for exclusives and 3rd party titles that aren't available on PC, but that's where it ends.

Console gaming isn't dying....but the PC is the superior platform, it's just not everyone can afford to experience it at it's highest.

You go to a bunch of gaming websites, and you're surprised that tons of people like the system with the most games by a huge margin, the most variety, and the best performance.

You should be happy to see that.

Nah, it's just the Lems doing what Cows did last gen and hiding behind PC because their console of choice is being shellacked. They'd rather claim they were somehow hermits all along or partially herm then go down with the XBone ship.

Same shit, different gen, different factions.

It's usually kids under 18 who believe that consoles are more popular than PC gaming.

Generally because all of their little friends game on consoles and their mommy's and daddy's won't dish out the money to put together a high performance gaming PC.

Once you own a PC you realize consoles are all about the exclusives.... and when you go through a period like right now, you find out that there are not that many solid exclusives that really warrant a new system (with the exception of Nintendo exclusives).

EDIT: I do not foresee myself ever owning a multiplat on a console again.

Yes. I built my first PC right around when Crysis came out after my roommate's 360 RROD'd for the first time. I just couldn't believe how much better the experience was, and could not imagine ever buying a multiplat on consoles ever again. It is really paying off now, as I can still play all of my last gen games on the same system I play my new gen games. PC gaming is a better value now than it ever has been. You can get parts that outperform consoles for dirt cheap, and $1000-$1200 will get you a pretty nice machine.

Option 3.

My preferred console isn't doing as well as I'd like so hyping PC up is a better argument than using the real system I prefer in arguments.

I don't know about that....PC gaming is expensive if you want the best. I know there are builds out there that can match the current consoles in power for about the same price if not a little higher but if you really want the PC experience it's a bit more pricey.

PC gaming is only super expensive if you're one of the few who goes batshit crazy overboard.

I'm totally content with being able to max out games at 60+ FPS at 1080p on a single monitor setup.

I don't SLI/Crossfire (causes more negatives than positives), I don't pay out the ass for "gaming" mouses and keyboards, and I couldn't give two shits about playing on multiple monitors (why the hell people want their game split up on 3+ different screens is beyond me).

All in all my newest rig cost about $1400

Yeah.

That's perhaps the biggest reason I game on PC so heavily nowadays is because it's far cheaper to do so than on consoles. It was really eye-opening. What you can get for so cheap nowadays, and then use it to play a 30 year catalog of games and mods. The largest library of good games in the history of gaming. So good.

But in knowing that, if/when I do become much more wealthy, I'll still game on PCs anyways. They just blow the consoles away in terms of games and performance at such a good price. Of course I'd get an enthusiast PC if I was ever rich enough.

I wouldn't say consoles are dying seeing as how they are selling better than last gen, but I would say PC gaming is growing. It's just one of those things you have to try for you to understand. I use to be a strict console gamer until my friends aggravated me enough to try PC gaming and I do not regret it. Games that have been dead on console for years are still thriving on PC with a hefty community due to mods keeping the game fresh. The prices of games are cheaper if you wait on a big sale and multiplats are actually better. The smart thing to do is to build a capable PC and then purchase whichever console has the exclusives you're interested in. That way you don't miss out.

Another reason why I think PC hardware sales are going up is because people are realizing consoles are a waste of money at the moment. What is there to play right now? TLOU remastered? Titanfall? This gen is still young and consoles do not have a vast library yet. Lets not get into the weak hardware...everyone knows it.

Na, PC is cheaper. You have to factor in the price difference in games and well as free online for PC vs paying every year for console. The only way PC would still be more expensive is if you either build a super expensive PC or you game on console and never really buy games and only really use the system for movie watching, but then what's the point in owning it at all?

100's of games being released on PC vs a handful for the new gen consoles. Will probably swing back a bit when you get more games in 2015 on the PS4 & XB1

No, $1400 isn't cheap.

But by the time you've spent $500 on an XBone, built a library of around 10 games, and paid for a year or two subscription to XB Live...then you've spent around $1400.

And you aren't getting anywhere close to the level of gameplay or graphical detail, no access to an assortment of mods, no access to Steam and it's enormous library of super cheap and even free games, etc.

In the long run, console gaming is actually much more expensive than PC gaming and you're getting an inferior product.

And yes, I'll upgrade again before the next console cycle. But I'll probably only upgrade my GPU over the next 2-3 years.

Ugh, you should know the general jist of how PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming over time. If you don't, than something is wrong.

I think that is a big misconception. If you build a PC right the first time it can last for several years. Granted you will be turning down the quality, but it can be perfectly capable. I had a rig with a 9800gt+/q8200 that lasted 6 years. I built a new PC just a few months ago. That rig can still play games, but it isn't maxing out games at 1080p or anything. It's perfectly capable of playing most games on med/high at 768p.

Hermits have no games to play, they are busy flooding the webs begging for console ports while most console gamers busy playing games...

When reality punches you in the face at least cows have posts like this to help soothe the pain.

The reason why I became a PC gamer was because of SW. Thank you based SW, and **** off I hate you all.

But $1400 isn't cheap and you probably will upgrade in less time than the console cycle.

He pretty much answered this already.

Not really....and how is $1400 cheap again compared to a $400 console?

Ugh, you should know the general jist of how PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming over time. If you don't, then something is wrong.

You guys act like you get all free games....new games are maybe $10 cheaper but I can rent games with Gamefly, you don't have to buy every game.

Console gaming isn't dying....but the PC is the superior platform, it's just not everyone can afford to experience it at it's highest.

True, but if you can afford to game on consoles, you can afford a PC experience that is better than your console experience.

But $1400 isn't cheap and you probably will upgrade in less time than the console cycle.

Yes you can get some games for free or cheap but those aren't the games you have a nice PC for.

Right now I have an i5 and a 660ti but I want to upgrade to an i7 and a higher end graphics card......that will cost me another $500-$600 on top of what I already spend to build this a couple of years ago. I bought an X1 and PS4 for under a $1000 and will last for maybe 10 years based on last gen ( but that might be different since these consoles are weak )

Gamefly...yet another subscription service that nickels and dimes console gamers but they don't think twice about it.

I don't see why you would want to upgrade from an i5 to an i7 if you're just strictly playing games. Waste of money.

And so you've already went out and spent $1,000 on an XBone and PS4, when both currently have no games and are inferior to a solid $600-700 PC setup....but $1400 for a high end rig is super expensive?

Ummm....okay then.
