Just like the Natal video, I think this is more of a proof of concept, I'm sure they can get the program to do alot fo the stuff, but the session was obviously scripted, which is fine for this application, all the companies do this type of thing when showing off new hardware and or software
The diffrence here is the fact that besides making a game console, Microsoft does make software for a living, as its #1 business, so voice recognition (Ford uses it in thier cars) and all the other things Natal does is just combining some of the things microsoft has been working on for years.
Peter Molyneux  what did you expect from him other then stupid hype? also why do gamers care if Milo is real or not
Fifth thread on this, fifth time it's had to be drilled into peoples head that they never once claimed it was an intelligent self thinking A.I, I'll say it again: Mr Molyneux openly admitted it was fancy tricks.
This isn't claiming ownage, this is stating the obvious.
That has GOT to be the best interview....I have ever seen.I think it's another crappy damage control attempt.
Here's the Eurogamer interview where Molyneux explains all the tricks.
Baranga
it's real enough to impress eurogamer and IGN
bingbaocao
She sounds impressed, all right:
Eurogamer: But I put it to you, Peter, that was not a very good joke. So the fact he laughed at it demonstrates a serious flaw within the software.
Peter Molyneux: Well, that wasn't a real laugh. That was a polite giggle. Let's move on. The game is called Milo and Kate and you play through a story. There is another character called Kate. Kate is a dog.
Eurogamer: But of course! Wait, are you sure it's not a parrot?
And the relevent portion:
Eurogamer: I was nearly in tears during the E3 conference. But that was partly because I am a girl and I have jetlag and the internet wouldn't work properly for the Live Text. But yes, I was nearly in tears. I didn't want Shane Kim to see me cry though.
She's being facetious....moreover, she trolls Molyneaux throughout literally the entire interview.

so she says she's impressed she goes as far as to say:
urogamer: OK. Milo?
Milo: [Looks up, smiles and nods]
Eurogamer: Bloody hell. Er, OK. A Times New Roman walks into a bar. The barman says, 'We don't serve your type.'
Milo: [Giggles]
Eurogamer: Bloody hell.
If asking the questions of how things are done is trolling then i'm quite happy we don't follow your standards of journalism
lol a blog post, cows and hater are trying way to hard to downplay Natal, most be the fear that natal might be good.VitunLehmathow many threads do we need about the same goddamn thing, MS said themselves it was a tech demo, i mean jeez, why don't cows try to claim ownage on something people actually care about, oh yeah that's right, they can't, silly me, cows must be feeling seriously insecure, the SDF has been on damage control since E3.
Stating the bloody obvious. There's no intelligence to AI, it's seeded in reality like any other program.clembo1990
Back in the late 70's, we had this program `Eliza' on our Apple IIc. Text only, but it would parrot back words and phrases you said - and would just do it's best to keep you talking.
Frankly, that sounds a bit like Milo ... who giggles when it doesn't know how to respond, and doesn't strike me as much a conversationalist. Sure, you can have it keep up basic responses, but to suggest that we'll be `friends' with Milo is like saying the ATM and I will pal around, unlikely at best.

Quite frankly AI hasn't changed since the 70s because people are obsessed with User Interface. The next big scientifc break through like the discovery of DNA will be how to make an intelligent program. However crude the interface, making this work in theory is enough to be heralded a genius.[QUOTE="VitunLehmat"]lol a blog post, cows and hater are trying way to hard to downplay Natal, most be the fear that natal might be good.delta3074how many threads do we need about the same goddamn thing, MS said themselves it was a tech demo, i mean jeez, why don't cows try to claim ownage on something people actually care about, oh yeah that's right, they can't, silly me, cows must be feeling seriously insecure, the SDF has been on damage control since E3.
Cause people around here and in the world after watching "the tech demo" thought that the woman was having a conversation with milo and milo understood her. In which case isn't the truth at all. Milo DID NOT UNDERSTAND her, milo just heard a tone difference in her voice, which isn't anything new at all, rock band does that for singing and guitar hero aswell. So yes to off set the false perception that MS gave about milo there does need to be some truthful articles written about it and it needs to be discussed.
I even talked to a buddy of mine that was a 360 owner prior to getting a ps3 and he was just in aw of milo and couldn't quit talking about it or the other uses of the new cam. Just like others in here no one even noticed that they didn't show case anyone moving in a 3d enviroment like Sony did, or they didn't showcase the percision of there new cam, while Sony did show that. But because of milo it gave everyone in here and else where a false take on just what it was actually capable of, because of a well organised demostration.
While Sony did show off stuff that hasn't been done by the wii or any other device but because of a poor demostation people blew it off. Like they were looking at the people giving the tech demo instead of actually watching what the device could REALLY do. So I think its clear now to everyone that Sony needs to work on their marketing and MS has marketing down pat lol.
The whole time I was like "Peter Molyneux?! This isn't real".Peter Molyneux  what did you expect from him other then stupid hype? also why do gamers care if Milo is real or not

Natal is smoke and mirrors, the PS3 wand is a direct ripoff of Wiimoton+ that costs more, has no support and is coming out over a year laterhy4kThe dual shock 3 is already like the wii, but ps3 wand with ps3 camera adds alot more functions and features. Show me a wii game that you can move around in real time in a 3d enviroment or have the percision like the ps3 wand. Heck the wii isn't even percise when navigating the menus on the screen lol. Much less being able to write your name with it or have the ability to track your movement as fast as the ps3 wand. The ps3 wand is on a different level than what the wii plus is on, close in the use of it, but definitly not on the same level.

They didn't say "they weren't so". They were speculating. They didn't say "they weren't so". They were speculating. There's a difference. They said just like everyone else, its voice tone. So yes voice tone is different than actually understanding your words. So unless you were one of 1/1000 that actually thought milo was using voice tone and not actually understanding the ladies voice then I guess you knew it was false advertising the begin with lol. But gametrailer did have some rude things to say about milo so they were not happy at all with it. And they felt mislead.Well then show me a tech demo of the wii plus allowing movement in a 3d space then lol.GreyFoXX4
Red Steel 2, I suppose.
Btw, do you have to write "lol" in almost every single one of your posts? It gets annoying.
But gametrailer did have some rude things to say about milo so they were not happy at all with it. And they felt mislead.GreyFoXX4Too bad for them, I suppose. IGN and Eurogamer were quite impressed. So is life, some like something, some don't.

You continue to disregard that Molyneux said he can recognize about 500 words as of now.
The clamour to call Milo a fake when no-one ever claimed he was real - Molyneux himself admitting to "tricks" - proves just how hair-raising, how unsettling Microsoft and Lionhead's achievement is.
[QUOTE="Tjeremiah1988"]who wants to talk to a little boy who lives in a tree? Even if it is accurate, I dont see myself using this tech.Baranga

Peter said in the e3 demo that it works and it works today, now actually. And milo understood word for word at the beginning of that demo. So yes it portrayed that milo could understand her exactly, but milo does not. And the picture she drew is already being done in the eyepet game, but yet everyone was so wowed over that part of the demo.. I think yall are damage controlling that it actually does not owork the way that the staged demo portrayed. I'm done with this topic, lemmings came away from E3 boasting about natal instead of games and natal is being shot down left and right as just being staged and does not work as advertised in the e3 conference end of story. But yea as a UI I think natal will be awesome, but not so much in games. It's not a game. Its just a tech demo for Natal.[QUOTE="Baranga"]

It just portrayed that the illusion is perfect. Were you expecting a 40-minutes feature explaining all the tricks? It would be like Naughty Dog explaining the shader system...

No actually I didn't even think there was tricks. I mean how impressed can someone be if there was tricks inplace to portray milo? But yet what we are finding out is that it was all about tricks. So no thank you, might aswell chose form a set of preset questions from the screen and hit x on my controller. Please Log In to post.
