Face it the PS3 can't win

Honestly, there's no way the ps3 is going to win the console wars this gen it's pretty much impossible.

Why?

The console wars will pretty much be decided by consumers sometime between 07-08 being that a large majority of gamers will buy their console either this year or next.

Most customers will not pay over $300 for a console, and many won't pay over $200 no matter how good of "deal" it is. AT least 75% of a systems sales are going to happen after it drop below this price.

The ps3 can't drop to $300 before 09 without taking a loss and taking a loss durring your peak selling period is pretty dumb, and finiancially worse than losing this gen.

What are you on?! MOST gamers don't even purchase their systems until 2-3 yrs after the release. The PS3 definitely has the most positive buzz surrounding it right now. It's going to do well this holiday season & will likely completely own the 08 holiday season after receiving another price drop or two... At $400 the systems are sold out right now... so when they hit $300, you can forget about it! It's a system that is known for creative games... as long as that image lasts, there's alway a chance it'll win. We won't know for another 2-3 yrs though so just relax & game.

Isn't the Wii and 360 also more than $200. Talk about self ownage. :)

It's way too early to rule out any system from taking first place. But I really hope Wii doesn't, why? Because I like pretty graphics:D

I really don't want Sony or Microsoft to follow Nintendo's example.

You think that there will be a total of 60 million current gen consoles sold by the end of 08? Well even if that does happen do we know which console will hold the majority of those sold? Really, put down the crystal ball. We don't know how this gen will play out.Ibacai

Ummm....PS3 will outsell the 360 by generations end...the Wii will either sell over 100 million or will die in 2008...even if the wii sells 100 million, all major franchises will still be on the PS3/360 due to Wii's hardware limitations.

Either way PS3 will turn out ok...maybe not PS2 great, but close.

Where did I say death? reading skills are really lacking in system wars tons of posters are assuming I said stuff I didn't then responding with a "oh you're wrong, and I'm right because I posted it" type logic.

I came up with 3 very good reason why the ps3 can't win, and I have failed to see even one bad reason it can win.

saying MS doing bad in Japan is ok because its always done bad is not a good excuse and considering the 360 was out a full year before the PS3 was released having 5 times the sells in the region in about 8 months is impressive.

and I've gone on record saying the wii will destroy both the 360 and PS3 in sells, but the PS3 will definetly outsell the 360

lets not spin it, if sony is going to lose japan is irrelevant to how bad the xbox did or how bad the 360 is doing

I wasn't going to say anything but you just "owned yourself" and I can't help but comment on that. First of all, you missed the guy's mention of price drops which is the whole point of him saying most people won't pay over $200. Because, you know, they wait for that to happen before buying. Secondly, he also said "many" as opposed to "most" which referred to the $300 price marker which the Wii IS below and the 360 semi-matches. Before price drops.

And what cracks me up about some of the counter posts is that you guys accuse the topic-maker of "looking into a crystal ball" (a failed attempt at wit and humor, I might add) when all of you guys keep saying "oh, look to the future in 2008 and beyond". Isn't reasonable to assume that you guys are also looking into that "crystal ball"? The PS3 lineup isn't infallible. What if, god forbid, Metal Gear fails? What if Killzone 2 can't deliver? What if Final Fantasy continues its alleged 'decline'?

What if the 360 lineup does excessively well? Or the same with the Wii. While the PS3 fails to live up to expectation? I don't know how the PS3 will win with its continued bad PR. The weak "price drop", loss of rumble, hypocrisy. They're STILL reeling from giant enemy crab and ridge racer. The whole black and white PSP debacle was pretty bad, too. And then that stupid church thing.

Okay, so we don't know the future. I don't know the PS3 will fail and I don't know its rivals will continue to surpass it. . but trends do tend to leave hints that allow for intelligent guesses. That's all I'm saying.

what do you think will happen when the 360 gets a price cut, and the ps3 gets a proper price cut at christmas (this is most definitely going to happen, Reeves pretty much confirmed it)

when the ps3's RRP is $500 in Pal regions which is £249 (this is me assuming they don't whip outbring the rumoured 40 gig for £199 and completely devour europe) sales are going to explode.

i'llgo on record,quote this if you like the wii will lose this gen. American consumers are too hooked on halo and 360's hardcore library, if there's a price cut well use your imagination. Mgs and FF exclusive, alongside sony's HUGE a$$ library of first party (GT5)exclusives and acquisition ofpromising third party exclusives from renowned game makers(2 sega exclusives from shenmue creator) are the reason i think sony is going to easily take over by late 08 in terms of demand.

in addition to this in an interview Reeves basically said there's around 6-7 first party sony exclusives that are as promising as killzone coming out within the next 18 months. some of these COULD flop but thevolume of game development from sony themeslves is putting the competitors to shame. I don't want MS topull out of the console war cause that'd be negative in the long run for gamers.but they themselves need to do more then hope mgs4 jumps ship.

Sony's library of games last gen appealed to the japanese the europeans and NA.Their line-up now is set to follow their prior performance. Some deluded Lemmings think this holiday season will determine the victor of the console wars. No if microsoft do a price cut and release as many promising titles as sony in 08 and the subsequent years then they'll have a chance. Price cuts alone don't keep a system selling you need games.

Sales sony will return to the top spot by 09 if things continue the way they are and the price cuts happen around fall this year.

well i thought PS3 had a chance with the price cut but the price cut for the 60GB version will last only until those units are sold out, then they're going back to $600 for the priciest model, so yeah, price point is still going to weigh down their salesmwa

sony NEED a $500 priced system out there. Couple this with strongs hints of a proper price cut around decemberish in PAL regions.
