Thats not true though.. I by no means am a fan of Elder Scrolls, but I can at least say Morrowind had things that did not match to Oblivion.. For instance I had a choice to make with major and minor skills and IT DID matter which was which.. In the end you never had access to all skills.. Secondly everythign was handplaced, with very little leveling.. And there were conquences, if you joind one guild it bared you from joining antoehr etc etc.>sSubZerOo
The skills system of the games have remained unchanged - any difference there is mostly perceived on your end. All that's consistently happened is a slow removal of skills with each new game. You could always train up the minor skills, just more slowly, and it was recommended to put more common things down there to keep you from being leveled too quickly at the expense of other skills + stat boosts. Things are handplaces in Oblivion too, generally the artifacts... afaik, as they always have been in Elder Scrolls games. Some higher-end non-artifact items were handplaced in Morrowind, I guess, but that's by no means a big game-changing difference. Guilds... yeah, that one was a bit of an outlier.

Maybe. But I hardly count GS scores as credible after the Kane and Lynch event.... :?

Ehh, I don't agree. Oblivion, although not "teh ownage!!1", was a good game. Fall3 looks to be better.

[QUOTE="beast667"]I hope it doesn't. It looks like a good game, but I can't see it getting a 10, especially considering what Bethesda is doing to this franchise.-RPGamer-

What, like giving it another chance by keeping it alive?

Nah, it's more like Silence of the Lambs, and it's going to kill it and make a suit out of fallout skin.

Looks incredible, but the only downside IMO is the character models and expressions. Other than that, it looks amazing

Im guessing a 9.5 from GS

AAA? Maybe, but what kills it's chance at AAAA is that it's Oblivion with guns.

Dear god I hope not.. Oblivion was a awful rpg, and Fallout seems to be changing very little in its formula.. If fallout 3 gets a AAAA for any of the platforms, I will never come to this site again :?sSubZerOo

I'm with you on that one - if Fallout 3 is anything like Oblivion, and it gets a 10, I'm leaving.
Having said that, I think it could potentially get AAAA - GS really screwed up on their Oblivion review, and this looks like as 'better' version of Oblivion...

just out of curiosity, what makes fallout so great? I've never heard of it before.

-Mad_Rhetoric-

We could list why Fallout 1 and 2 were so great, but then you'd be disappointed when you find out that Fallout 3 has none of those features. :P

Or, alternately, preventing a more competent company from giving it a chance.

Urrrrhhhhh.... "its oblivion so it sucks" :|

That argument is so dumb, we haven't even seen the game! the only thing we know thats similar is the camera, and the leveling system, and even that has been changed. The biggest arguments with oblivion were "the level scaling" which they said wont be in fallout 3. Another argument "no restrictions", and they have said that in fallout 3, you decisions come with consequences.

Oblivion wasn't rated so highly for nothing. People called it overrated because there were issues that really bugged people, and its looking like they have been ironed out in fallout3. But there could be a hole new set of bugs because nobody knows what it plays like. SO SILENCE YOUR MOUTHS

just out of curiosity,

I've never heard of it before.

-Mad_Rhetoric-

Fallout made #4 on the list of top games of all time produced by PC Gamer in 2001. It made #5 on the IGN list of the top 25 PC games of all time[5], and is usually placed in similar lists. It also won the award of "RPG of the Year" from GameSpot, and has since been inducted into their "Greatest Games of All Time" list.[6]Fallout made #55 on IGN's 2005 top 100 games of all time,[7] and #33 on IGN's 2007 top 100 games of all time.[8] It is notable that all review scores for Fallout are consistently high and none are lower than an eight (out of a maximum of ten), with the only criticism involving its graphics. One notable criticism, however, has passed through the fan base, and that is that while the character creation allows for an extreme amount of variance, some of the skills and optional attributes are useless. Also, the early game can be very difficult for non-combat-oriented characters.

But new fallout will su*ck because bethesda is developing it and we will get just another Oblivion just with guns

Actually, we've seen the game numerous times. Not only was its presentation as generic as Oblivion's, but it's completely tengential to the franchise it claims to belong to.

I am torn by this game. I believe this game will be at least decent, but then again giving it such a high ranking would be a bit of a mockery to the general consensus of RPGs and its the series. It may be okay, but from what I seen, its very flawed what is suppose to be.

presentation, thats your opinion.

But why dose the game have to be identical to 1/2. It just sounds like a nostalgia argument to me, even if fallout 3 was terrible, it wouldn't effect 1/2 in anyway.

It doesn't have to be indentical with the first two, but it should greatly represent it past entries.

It won't be any connection to them imo, but to me, it doesn't exist, its like Aliens Verus Predator stacked against their series.

Uhh, I'm going to have to say AA - AAA. The day fallout 3 gets a 10 from Gamespot is the day I decide to buy it. lol.

ATM I'm on the fence, due to Bethesda's anal retentiveness with the DLC -_-

If Fallout 3 scores AAAA I will probably lose what little faith I have left in the gaming industry as a whole. I hope they (everyone) lambaste Fallout 3 and Bethesda for doing nothing more than making Oblivion into a shooter and ripping off and wasting perfectly good IP.

Don't count on it. They could rerelease Oblivion with new graphics and still get AAA from most sites, not saying it would deserve it, but that would happen.

No. It's not opinion to say that it is an Oblivion-esque interface that breaks away from the original games.

But why dose the game have to be identical to 1/2. It just sounds like a nostalgia argument to me, even if fallout 3 was terrible, it wouldn't effect 1/2 in anyway.

hip-hop-cola2

Nostalgia has nothing to do with it. Changing its interface also morphs the genre.

It BY NO MEANS has to be identical. In fact, I LIKE the fact it has a first person perspective. It's more immersive. What I do not like, however, is the fact they took away a lot of depth and a lot of complexity. That is my problem. I am all about change and innovation. But I am against BAD change. Fallout 3 changed, for the worse. It could have changed for the better. Change is not my issues.

It's common that when one person hates Fallout 3, people say he/she is afraid of change. But that is truly a primitive argument. Change is good because it indicates progression. And that's what the Fallout series has always been about: PROGRESSING the RPG genre. But Fallout 3 only progresses the graphics and interface. That's it. It is actually a step back in many, many areas. That is BAD change.

Is it possible to play the old fallouts for free anywhere? becouse im struggling to find theses drastic changes.

All i can find with some good lurking, is that they have removed some humor which involved kinda breaking the "4th" wall. There's the camera change...

The stats system sounds similar, but this is where I'm probably wrong. Its looks like lots of old fallout lore is there to?

I dont mind being wrong, i just want to know what fallout 3 is doing so wrong

There is the developed choices and consequences system. Meaning, if, in the old Fallouts, you happen to kill a child at any point; for the rest of the game everyone will label you as a "child killer" and bounty hunters will try and kill you. The game had many of these types of descisions.

Now, in Fallout 3, theres the main quest and a bunch of side quests. Not really much consequences.

The old Fallouts had tons of "little things" that made it special, a turly complex game. But Fallout 3, seems to be a Fallout-lite... a mainstream Fallout, so to speak.

It definitely has AAAA potential, but that speaks more to the piss-poor quality of gaming "journalism" than the game itself.

There is still a karma system? There are decisions in the game which affect lots of things. The conversation looks MASSIVELY more open than in oblivion meaning you should feel a lot more in control. How do you know its just a main quest and side quests?
