Bethesda RPGs require you to actively role-play... that is 'play a role'. If you chose an unremarkable character, you can't blame the developer if you didn't have fun.I bought Fallout 3 about a month a ago and i think its a very overrated game you are better off getting something like Saints row 2 that is fun to play I am going to get rid of my Fallout 3 as soon as I can.

i would buy if it wasnt for the broken ps3 version. might pick it up for my pc... but not that bothered at the momentthetruespin
I've spent roughly 80 hours with the PS3 version...and it certainly isn't anywhere CLOSE to being "broken". I didn't have a single problem for the majority of the game...since the patch came out.
Overrated is pending. It's an 8.0-9.0 game to me. 9.5 - Best RPG ever made? Not so much.
Though I don't get why it had so many votes on GotY section when GTAIV and MGS4 were there =X
The ONLY good thing about Fallout 3 was taking someone apart in slow-motion, but even that aiming system was annoying. They screw up the free-aim gunplay so that you MUST depend on the VATS system to do great. Also, the world map is so dull it make the environments in Gears of War look alive. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 and thats only because I like shooting people's heads off with the hunting rifle (which is weak like a darn BB gun). EDIT: Oh, and if you're wondering just HOW the free aiming system was screwed up.....this is the only game i've ever played where I can shoot an orc in the HEAD 3-4 times at point-blank range and THEY STILL STAND.TheBigBadGRIM
It's not a shooter, it's an RPG. Like you their body parts have HP. :|
Very compelling post, I'm going to get rid of my PC version of Fallout 3 and the give back to gamefly the Xbox 360 version because of that well thought out reply with an unshakable base. :roll:
Edit: I agree with the above poster, Fallout 3 is easily one of the best games this generation.

Solution: Play the PC version. ;) Even then, I didn't and I did great without having to depend on VATS.
Also, the world map is so dull it make the environments in Gears of War look alive.
It's a nuclear wasteland. What did you expect? No mutant army numbering in the thousands. No explosions everywhere. Just you, some survivors trying to rebuild the Earth...Or not, and the wildlife.

Get your Small Arms skill up, learn how to Repair your own equipment, and learn how to Sneak or turn down the difficulty. With the right weapons and skills, you can take down Super Mutants in one shot. Note the fact that they're mutants. Their physical traits are different to humans.
Also, I find it funny that you mentioned Gears of War since you can't one-shot Locust enemies without the Longshot or explosives. ;)

Mate how old are you?Would you agree Saints row 2 would be a better chose?

I agree. Fallout 3 was a mess of unbalanced stats-based roleplaying with the dullest, most repetitive environments I've ever explored in a game. Its writing is a joke for any sort of major-budget game and its shooter-wannabe combat is horrible. It's one of the worst games I've played this generation.
And the radio music didn't make it any better.
You play this game for an hour and give up on it? You have no idea what you are missing. It takes several hours for the game to pick up. Your loss buddy. I spent 95 hours with Fallout 3 (Xbox 360) and enjoyed it tremendously and I don't play many RPG games.I refuse to call it Fallout 3.
Oblivion with Guns is overrated and got boring after an hour of play.

again. all opinions. you have a FF avatar. personally, i find the FF series incredibly boring. you think FF is boring? i Strongly disagreei would buy if it wasnt for the broken ps3 version. might pick it up for my pc... but not that bothered at the momentthetruespin
You might as well get it for the PC; if there's some aspect of the game that you don't like, odds are there's a mod to completely fix it. I wasn't enjoying that much at first, but then I upped the carry capacity and got a mod for weapon accuracy and I think its great now.

Yet again, in this veryrare instance, I must agree with you.:P Fallout 3 just didn't live up to the heritage of the Fallout franchise, imo. I liked it more than Oblivion, but that's not saying much.
Correction, Fallout 3 for consoles is overrated, but on PC, its waaay better. Personally, I enjoyed it a little more than Oblivion, and comparing it to Saints Rows shows that the TC knows almost nothing about games.

Head for the hills Bio. :PNot the "best RPG evar" but definitely one of the best this gen. The main quest was weak but the game was really big and had lots to and exploring do to keep you busy, great nice settings and graphics, got me hooked.
Glad to see not all fallout fans are poseurs who use the "It's teh oblivion with gunz" or "It's not a true fallout" argument against it. Srsly that got old even before the game was released, give it a break.Good game, better then i expected it to be. But still nothing to special or amazing imo.
I still enjoy Fallout1 and 2 more, but thats just my personal prefference.
Fallout1 = 10/10
Fallout2 = 9.5/10
Fallout3 = 8/10

It's an RPG but it's still a shooter. I don't know if you're aware but it's actually possible to be both. If most of my weapons are guns and most of my kills are by shooting enemies...i'm pretty sure it's a shooter. And even if it is an RPG no enemy should EVER, EVER survive 4 shotgun blasts to the face from 2 feet away while madly swinging their weapon at me...it's ridiculous.Please elaborate as to why you think it's over-rated and why you don't like it. I thought it was the 2008 GOTY personally and played it twice already and might play it again. There are so many things to do and explore and so many ways to do things. I've never experienced a game like it and it's one of my all time favorites.I bought Fallout 3 about a month a ago and i think its a very overrated game you are better off getting something like Saints row 2 that is fun to play I am going to get rid of my Fallout 3 as soon as I can.

Saints Row 2 on the other hand felt childish, shallow, and generic to me. I hated the way the cars and guns controlled, hated the characters too.
Fallout 3 won the highly-coveted Game of the Year award Wednesday night at the Ninth Annual Game Developers Choice Awards presented at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.Bethesda Softworks' post-apocalyptic action role-playing game (for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and PCs) also won the best writing award.
