Fallout 4 12 Million One Day Destroys Both Halo 5 and COD Sales

Fallout 4's launch was a huge success. Bethesda announced today that the game shipped 12 million copies worldwide for launch day alone, "representing sales in excess of $750 million." In addition, the game is generating "record sales" at brick and mortar stores and across Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC.

Bethesda did not say how many of those 12 million copies shipped to retailers were actually sold through to consumers. The $750 million number likely represents the total possible revenue, if indeed all 12 million were actually sold. We've contacted Bethesda in an attempt to learn more about Fallout 4's performance.

"Major retailers have informed Bethesda of the tremendous consumer interest in Fallout 4 , with some noting it was the most pre-ordered game this year," Bethesda added, noting that the Pip-Boy Edition became the fastest-selling collector's edition for any game in history "at leading retailers."

By comparison, Call of Duty: Black Ops III generated $550 million after three days, while Halo 5: Guardians banked $400 million in one week.

On Steam alone, Fallout 4 was the top-played game at launch, at one time reaching over 470,000 concurrent players. This blasted past a previous record held by Grand Theft Auto V. In addition, Bethesda claims the Fallout Pip-Boy app was the "number one game" on the iTunes App Store.

Finally, Bethesda said Fallout 4 set a new record to become the most-viewed game launch for any new game released so far this year.

There was a time when Halo would lay waste to everything in its path, but those days are gone. Halo still sales well, but the once juggernaut has fallen.

It's like people are getting tired of the same recycled FPS's with minimal replay value outside of a multiplayer that isn't much different from past iterations..

Shipped numbers aren't as cool as sold to consumers. At least they actually say they are shipped unlike MS and Activision.

Halo always sold badly on PC. It doesn't matter if it was multiplat or not, it would see negligible increase. But that way they don't move consoles, and they would have to actually give how many copies they sold instead of how many the combined profit of how many consoles it sold, copies, and microtransactions.

It's not on Pc nor PS4 so it's all worthless speculation, forgetaboutit.

Since I haven't finished it yet, I don't want to draw any comparisons the New Vegas, though.

I ever played a Fallout game, so I'm wonder should I take my copy back to Target or play it.

I bought the Elite bundle last week ( traded my old one into Gamestop ) I was xboxless for a week and it was finally delivered yesterday. I was able to hook it up last night, so I should be on tonight!

They need to invest that money into a new engine and better programmers.

I picked it up as well as Cod and Halo and I'm glad I did. Fallout is a good game so far so I'm glad a lot of people picked it up as well as Halo and I guess Cod. Eitherway, those are big numbers that all 3 companies have made of their new releases.

Glad Bethesda didn't try to be ambiguous with the the number of copies shipped and lol don't expect them to sell anywhere close to that day one

It's a great game underneath the jank, but I would not put it up there with TW3, Bloodborne or Rise of the Tomb Raider. I think I will probably end up having a better time with Just Cause 3 as well. It just seems like a step back in ways and does not come off as top shelf as even Skyrim did at the time when it released back in 2011.

Good stuff, i'm jelly of the pip-boy edition, was all sold out here locally and i didn't have the patience to wait for delivery :P

That first Halo sold pretty well on the PC, and that was in spite of the fact that it was poorly optimized. The 2nd halo tanked, because it was a vista exclusive and you needed games for windows live just to play it, which absolutely hurt its cause. Otherwise Halo like anything else would benefit greatly from multiple skus. It would still be behind CoD/Fallout these days if these numbers are to be believed, but given how the franchise has drawn on one console with limited fanbases, it would be foolish to assume it wouldn't sell buckets on a PS4 or a PC with larger install bases.
