Famitsu FF XIII imperfect score explained

Now with Famitsu's Final Fantasy XIII score is up (39/40), there are many fans who are questioning why the game hasn't got a perfect (40/40) score from Famitsu. Famitsu score system, which consists of four reviewers rating games on a scale of 1-10 has given the latest entry in the Final Fantasy series: (10, 9, 10, 10).

According to one of the reviewers, up until the mid-way point of the game, the story seemed be linear and that it didn't offer any new "gimmicks" in its story telling. Though, all of the reviewers have praised the game's well done cut scenes and strategic combat system.

Although the game hasn't got a perfect score from Famitsu, I think that the game will be fantastic. For comparison's sake, here's how Famitsu has scored other Final Fantasy games:

I read all about the FFXIII score, but I do like the Final Fantasy Famitsu history refresher, thanks.
I also know FF12 was a big deal back in the day, in regards to the Famitsu score.

I'm not super hyped on it but it should be a good enough JRPG to hold me over until Lost Odyssey 2. :P

I would love a sequel as well. :)

If they fixed some things from the original and offered an all new story that still revolved around Kaim and was as gripping as the last, it would move right up to the top of my most anticipated games list.

They gave FFXII a 40/40. :| An this gets a 39/40 for an linear story. Oh please.

I actually dunno about a Lost Odyssey sequal, I played the first one and..kinda enjoyed it but I dunno, FFXIII is kinda higher up on the list, it's kinda 1st on my most hyped for list, just above Castlevania, Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian :P

when I saw this I scratched FF13 off my wish list. For famitsu to score it not perfect tells me this isnt going to be as big a hit as everyone thought it would be. I wouldnt be surprised if it got AA status here on GS. Mass Effect 2 looks to be the RPG to get in 2010.

Wow, seeing its layed out like that totally destroys Famitsu's credibility. There is no way XII deserved a 40/40 when it's predecessors failed, that game was probably the worst in the series IMO.

No matter how hard I try I cant get myself hyped for FF13... My desicion to buy will be soley based on western reviews and player reactions. I dont see this game being Mass Effect 2 or anything.

Video gamers have to be the most spoiled bunch when it comes to review scores. I've never seen anyone in my life complain about such a high score before just because it wasn't perfect.

Famitsu is the last opinion i would care about. Look at the40 points list only japanese games what a joke.

To me, doesn't matter.. the fact that VI is less than VII does!! :evil: But IX = VII, so I guess it's ok, and XII is awesome, so glad Famitsu knows that at least.
