The Wii Motion tech is standard. Every console has it, is bundled with it, and every game will use it in some form. Sony's motion tech requires people to buy the Eye Toy, which came out a couple years ago and barely anybody has anyway, AND to then buy at least one, if not two, of the new controllers. So the need for TWO add ons really limits the amount that people will adopt this tech, as well as the games that use it.

i think they should be more worried about NATAL. imagine

Advert 1. Guy plays bowling with a foot long white peice of plastic wrapped in a condom and tethered to his arm.

Advert 2. Guy plays bowling with nothing in his hand.

suddenly the wii looks dated

Out of curiousity, and no I haven't seen it at work, how does it know when you've let go of the ball?

Natal can track finger movements, so it will know when you open your fingers to release the ball.

I have my doubts. While the SOny controller and Wii Motion PLus will track very precise 1-1 movement, and therefore track the precise spin you put on the ball...I doubt the 360 Motion will work as well.

But regardless, I highly doubt anyone is going to buy the MS motion camera, or Sony's Eye Toy PLUS a controller, to play bowling which the Wii already does quite well.

simple answer: definitely not. Costs aside, it is a little better than the wii motion plus. It's more accurate, and can detect another dimension of movement, which makes that room demo possible. The ps3 is still much more expensive than the wii, there aren't any games designed for the wand thing, and when there are, they'll be irrelevant relative to the wii games that receive great marketing and at this point, lots of word of mouth advertising.

The motion control ship has already sailed, and the first one to jump on board as claimed most of the spoils already. Only scraps are left. While the motion stick has more potential for what we normally consider hardcore games, it'll take a while before people embrace it because there's always a chicken/egg dilemma going on. To make it a big part of the game could hurt sales if the motion stick doesn't sell well, but if nobody really makes it a big part of any games, who's going to buy it.

though Natal was amazing i think it will be a huge fail in term of games in the other hand Sony got safe approach to motion control controller more accurate than Wii mote and camera like natal its like mixing natal and wii mote so that will be more friendly for real games not just party games and sports.

( people were bashing sony for making a very expensive console with Blu-ray and now they learned from their mistake and they are making cheap motion control and more user friendly while MS is repeating Sony mistake by releasing as what I think a very expensive motion control and I dont think it will be friendly to real games it will be useful for mini games and sports only )

Yeah, Natal is great especially if you want a half-second delay after all your faster movements.

And since when is having a controller a burden?

The biggest thing I fear for natal or PS3 wand is just a remake of all the games Wii already has.

"Look, we can do the same thing! But better!" PSP does many things better than DS, and yet it still lags far behind.

How can Nintendo worry yet? Neither company offered up a price, offical release date, or games? Too many unknowns right now until those peripherals are fully developed. Plus, how often does a peripheral really take off? So much so that publishers are willing to drop everything they are currently working on and expect the same or better return than what is the console standard?

I would say no, if it's not included with the console at the time of the original purchase then you don't have to worry about it.

I kinda feel sorry for cows on the controller front.

Imagine buying a PS3 at launch + 3 sixaxis controllers

- Dual shock 3 releases

x4 Dualshock 3

-PS Eye releases

One eye toy

- PS wand releases

x8 PS wand

Total

_______

A gazillion dollars

"bu bu bu... teh motion+ should have been there from the beginning!! no buy!!"

error_202

Fixed.

If there were actually games announced for it and it manages to be at least somewhere near the price of a Wiimote, then maybe.

This generation, beyond a few console/peripheral specific games with the Sony and MS motion controls ... it will be tacked on `waggle' at best IMO. Beyond a few exceptions, it took a while for people to digest the strengths of the controllers and how to integrate with gameplay before the Wii remote was used very well. And in many cases, still isn't ... but people are figuring it out. Or like Wii PES 08 realize that the useful part for them was the IR pointer.

Are PS3 and Xbox players so into the `me too' philosophy that they'll pay good money for Wii-sports clones? I can see a few games [Tiger comes to mind] that would certainly sell quite a few of these peripherals ... but for the most part it'll take widespread development to make widespread adoptance + with that, a large amount of games utilizing it extensively.

Honestly, if they were smart they would sell them cheap [less buyer regret, better adoption] and try to get feedback and let developers play with their systems before the next generation. Motion will be an expected accessory next gen IMO, just like HD graphics and decent online will also be. I understand why companies are working on these + want them played on - I'm just mighty skeptical it's more than a first attempt that will likely be significantly improved [think M+] in a few years. And thus, as a consumer, I'm not going to be an early adopter here - that's for sure.

No not at all, I don't think a peripheral is going to dramatically change sony's position, in order to make them a credible threat to Nintendo.

No, they have a new mario and zelda coming out for the Wii. They allready have been the most successful in this gen, now they can use it to think about their next system.

Meh, I'm a Wii only owner, and I don't see it as that much of a problem. WiiMotionPlus is pretty darn accurate. I'd be worried about Natal, if anything.

I would rather play with something in my hand, since I would at least feel like I'm doing something, rather than just acting out imaginary things... :|

Same here also with a controller in your hand at least it adds some weight to your hands because real bowling balls are like 5 lbs+ for Natal since you don't have anything in your hand how does Natal know how to react since you wouldn't be moving like you actually holding weight.

the thing about the wand is that it wont work with main stream gaming, i think like it doesnt havethe nunchuck and therefore an analog stick and i dont think it has many buttons either basically, only 100% exclusives could work for it as in, only games specifically designed to make use of it and only it whereas the wiimote has enough buttons that it works with mainstream games with the pointer simply replacing the second analog stick when needed

i would say no for a few reasons. 1. the price tag of sony console is still an issues if theyre trying to reach the casual audience. 2. sonys motion controller is comming out to try and best something thats already been tried and true. as good as a demo it was, sony is just comming in too late in the game to try and take over some of nintendos ground. i have a pretty good feeling sony will have a stronger impact on its already established hardcore audience and people that are already current ps3 owners and gamers than they would have any luck drawing new owners in by intro-ing new peripherals. 3. right now theres still nothing solid as far as software thats been announced to draw anyone really into the whole idea of its motion tech. all we can do for the time being is imagine and thats either hit or miss. these are just the reasons i thought of right now...but i think these are solid enough reasons for nintendo not to worry.

No, thid will only be the equivalent of Eyetoy last generation... not the phenomenon that Wii is. The hardcore have to embrace it in order for it to really catch on. And you all just WAIT for this software. Imagine development time sucked down the drain for casual titles just to counter what Wii is doing. However, the Wii is doing something MUCH more than just casual titles.
