"According to wow.com, the download queue as of 1:45 Pacific time was at 80,000. At $25 a pop, this means that this noble steed has generated sales of $2 million since its approximate debut at 9:30 this morning, or around $500,000 an hour."

Source

And you people wonder why developers do this kind of stuff

UPDATE: The queue is now at 140000, which equates to 3.5 millions.

@Richard: Although Blizzard and Activision are both under the banner of Activision-Blizzard, they both retain autonomy from each other.

I consider many MMO's, (especially WoW) to be some of the worst things ever introduced into gaming.

Mainly due to their extremely addictive nature. I know 3 people who were/are addicted to it, and when a game prevents you from going to school, work, or socializing with other people, then thats a problem. Hell, look at south Korea, people have died playing MMO's.

Is that the game's fault or the lack of self-discipline on the player's side?

I was addicted to playing multiple different games before I was addicted to playing one game more then the others. :P

Even with that I have never considered myself with out control over my actions. I have played and quit several MMOs so far. I imagine the same people who want to sue McDonald's for being fat is the same people who blame a game for ruining there life.

So...what does the horse do? Why would people pay 25$ for it?

AmayaPapaya
It's a mount , meaning people ride on it instead of a boring brown horse . If I had the money for it AND if I played WoW , I would probably buy it to get that shiny kick-a** blue horse ! I mean seriously , if you had the money for it , wouldn't you buy it ?

You ride on it, and there's about 150 mounts in game that do the same thing that are all free to obtain.

$25 is a good deal

I haven't played in a year and a half, but being on the outside now and seeing my friends that still do play? It's pretty sad.

People are buying it because it looks similar to a very rare mount that you can only get from the current latest boss in the game. What is this mouth that it is just a big deal? It is suppose to be a very special and very powerful mount lore wise: http://www.wowwiki.com/Celestial#Celestials

If it was from a free MMORPG I really liked and it would be a donation because I don't need it and they don't make money from me otherwise, yes I would. However you pay a monthly fee for WoW. This is like paying more than you need to on your taxes.

Well, it definitely is the lack of self control, but once you become addicted to something its hard to stop(drugs).

Then your original statement that MMORPGs are some of the worst things brought into gaming is baseless, because you just admitted that the lack of self control from the player is the most important issue here. I've been playing WoW ever since a few months before the release of TBC. I love the game. I have a couple of 80s. I have a lot of friends in real life and in the game that I play with. And I do raid/pvp with my guild. And yet I mostly play only on the weekends, and manage my time playing. I'm not addicted to the game - I control the game, and the game doesn't control me. People generalizing on what WoW players are really just misrepresenting the entire community. And for the record, I didn't buy the mount. Furthermore, considering that the TCG mounts will cost you a LOT more money to get (spending money on heaps of card packs, or going on E-Bay and wasting more than $200), yet nobody ever complains about that. In fact, the players even ASKED Blizzard to do something like this.

I wouldn't buy it. I'm not calling the people who bought it stupid, because it's their money and if they want to spend their money like that it's not for me to judge. But $25 can get you more valuable services that Blizzard offers, like server transfers, race/faction changes, etc. I've never been one to care so much about cosmetic items in an MMO.

why do people think this is so terrible? MMOs, while I no longer play them, i still consider to be one of the most "powerful" genres of gaming... no other genre gets you so invested in a character like an MMO. When I played, while 25 bucks is a bunch, I'd probably pay that to trick out my guy. Especially if it would save hours and hours of boring questing. Just get a job for a few hours and pay the 25 instead.

How is this so bad? Blizzard isn't forcing any1 to do this. if people are willing to buy this accessory, than why shouldn't Blizzard make it? Clearly both parties win.

The game didn't do anything, those people's lack of will power did that.
