This will ofcourse make way for more items and mounts to be sold on the blizzard store.

Actually this has pretty much made it clear WoW addicts will buy anything, pretty much forcing themselves. This is none comparable to normal DLC. It's a $25 virtual horse for petes sake..Wow some of you are acting as if this is the first time DLC has been released(Halo 3, MW2, GTA4, Oblivion). It's not as if they are forcing you to buy it to experience anything new.
PS- I don't plan on buying it because it seems everyone has one now :D

Sure consolite PC troll. How about all the console gamers that buy useless DLC, items for their digital avatar, rehashes of the same game, eg. Guitar Hero?
Behold the future of console gaming! Real smart.
I don't recall anyone making this distinction when EA did it in Madden and Burnout. When a developer wants to charge for extra content, we hear about how "consolites are ruining gaming by letting themselves be milked." Yet, when there's absolutely no way that the consolites could possibly be involved (since it's a PC exclusive), suddenly the choir goes silent. Funny, that.lowe0The distinction exists. It isn't so much extra content that they're charging for with cash shops. It is content already in the game. As such, you're not required to pay for it. Paying for DLC is far more insidious because you're actually being required to pay for content which is often free on the PC. With cash shops, the content is still free.
*sigh*
You fancy horse along with your toon will one day be gone.
This coming from a fellow MMORPG player ;)
my friend got his 3 year old hokked on wow. so bad they had to put pampers back on him. so he didnt poop and pee his self. no joke. i almost crapped my pants when i first walked in and seen him killing stuff and moving around the map like a pro lolDon't like that one bit. Even superficial content should only be obtainable in game, especially in an MMO. Even though I'm not the RPer-type, it still seems like breaking the 4th wall when in-game content is sold outside the game world. They started this with the WoW card game. I wonder how far they'll take it next.
The only deal breaker for me is that the horse is a flying one. I've always wanted a flying horse, or anything not actually being a realistic flying mount. I find the parody to be hilarious BUT, as this is 'common' and nothing really special as it's easy to obtain, I probably would refrain from buying it anyway.
$25 for a single item?! o_O
Seems a little pricey considering most DLC for games these days are significantly cheaper and provide far more content. When I was playing World of Warcraft, I was more impressed with the people who obtained those mounts that were awarded once you acquired those "Glory of the...." achievements.

it's not 'just' a mount, it's a universal one that is used as a flying and regular mount, and to any of your characters, you save alot of gold by buying this one, instead of buying gold from chinese farmers to buy the mounts, you now provide blizzard with even more cash!
Edit: I would rather pay Blizzard than the chinese farmers, it's just sad that they even exist.

Well when you put it that way, it makes complete sense. =P
For all of you placing all the blame of becoming addicted to mmo's on the player, http://www.cracked.com/article_18461_5-creepy-ways-video-games-are-trying-to-get-you-addicted.html. Some of the fault is on the players yes, but part of it is these games are designed to be addictive. You wouldn't place 100% of the blame of someone who's addicted to cigarettes on just poor self control.

I thought the avatar items were silly and I made fun of Sony's @home plan to sell virtual furniture to PS3 owners. Both haven't taken off compared to this but more importantly they aren't trying to sell a pretty horse for $25 that someone made in a couple hours.I think people are blowing this thing out of proportion. So far, only 140.000 WoW players bougth this. Out of a 10.000.000(give or take) installed base,is it really that relevant? MW2 stimulus pack sold 2.000.000(and counting)on the 360 ONLY! Now see how much that is at 15$ each.(30.000.000$,I think).Arach666
It was actually about 2,500,000 downloads.
Thirty-Seven Point Five million dollars for a map pack.....what a scary future for gaming....
...I'm going to go lie down.
It isn't nearly as bad as a deal as you might think though. Its really sweet looking in game and ALL of your characters (present and future as well) get it. It also scales with riding skill (so you can get it at level 20 and eventually be able to fly on it at 310% speed). People are so quick to spend $25+ on beer and whatnot which is gone in no time, whereas this thing will last you as long as you play WoW. Calm the heck down.
And yes I did buy it.
I got off the WoW crack last year. Every once in a while I still get a craving to go back, but seeing things like this help remind me how much of a money sink the game can be.
Wow, can't believe people would actually buy that. I can't blame Blizzard though, if people will buy this, they should continue to sell it. It's a bit of a waste IMO though.
Eh, why not? If you want a cool looking mount you can:1.) Spend countless hours farming, doing stupid quests, etc. (when I still played a few years ago it took me weeks to get the netherdragon)
Just curious but these stupid quests and farming you speak of are what makes up the majority of WoWs gameplay. Why even play the game then if your not going to be bothered doing them?
2.) Spend 2 hours working in real life and then buy it. Looking back I have to say that the second possibility is the smarter move.
Sure I guess. It's still a big waste of money for what your getting.

So... how do you people feel about filling Bobby Kotick's pockets with cash? You made $3.5 million in a few hours for the guy whose purpose is to destroy quality games for $$$. And you paid $25 for some code that takes a skilled 3d modeller one afternoon to make.
Good job for supporting Activision, guys! :|
