Far Cry 2 uses a proprietary engine that was built from the ground up for the game. The developers told me that about 175 people worked on creating the engine and then the game for the PC. Currently that team is working to build in DX10 support, though it wasn't ready when I had a chance to look at it.

Because the engine was built to work on a PC, bringing the game, with all of its bells and whistles, over to the Xbox 360 was a relatively easy affair, the developers told me. Afterall, they said, the Xbox 360 is essentially a computer. In fact they only have three people working on the team that is porting the game over.

The Playstation 3? Not quite as simple an affair. They have a team of 14 working on that port, mostly because of the "difficulties" of working with the Playstation 3's unique architecture.

Well we already know that its easier to port a PC game to the 360 or vice versa. The ps3 is a whole different beast so it doesn't surprise me that they have more people working on that version to get it running at the optimum efficiency.

This article meant nothing about which multiplat will be better. If anything the PC version will be the best version.

Where does it say it's better on the 360?
At least they are making sure the PS3 is on par with the 360 version, as its easily capable.

And the link doesn't work.

and the 360 version is a direct port of the PC version where as the PS3 version needs to be reworked simply to run on the PS3. I'd say it sounds as if the 360 version will be the better of the two if they are depending on ONLY 3 people to do the final steps of the porting process.

Nothing in the article said that the ps3 version will be inferior to the 360 version. You're only interpreting what you want to hear instead of interpreting the article correctly.

There are difficulties, that's why they have 14 devs working on the PS3 version. The PC version will probably be better anyway.

or it could be that the 360 was created so that developers could deliver the same game to PC and 360 with minimal effort. The architecture between the two is so close that it's no wonder multiplatform titles have looked and run better on the 360. In a sense, it's pretty much as if the developers have to get the PS3 to emulate the game engine. That in turn means that it will more then likely not run or look as impressive as it was originally intended to. Keep the hope alive that the Cell can pull off some miricles, but do remember that the Cell isn't built for gaming, it's built for media functions and it's more of a draw back for the PS3 when it comes to games. Believe the Sony hype...

but our exclusives shine right through most of that older systems exclusives, and the count for multiplats right now is: Burnout Paradise: looked and ran better on the ps3, DMC4; looked a bit better on the 360 (texture wise), but ran better on the ps3, GTA4: looked better on the 360 (resolution, texture wise), but ran better on the ps3, and that's the readout for the high rated mulitplats out so far that landed this year.

Hey Sony! Ever hear of a little thing called "ease of development?" I hear that it helps with the AAA multiplats, and also with AAA exclusives. I also hear that it tends to help reduce the number of flops. Too bad you don't know much about that. At least you know how to trojan horse an unneeded media format to your loyal customters who would go to any length to buy your "dis-ease of development" console.

Serious Question: Why do people really believe the "Cell" hype? The PS3 has been released for 19-20 months (Nov 2006, if I am not mistaken), and developers have been working on PS3 games for far longer than that, and this so called "power of the cell" has still not been "unlocked," even by the greatest game developers in the entire world. In a few months it will have been out at retail for 2 full years. If we have not seen this "power" unlocked, we probably never will. At least not much before the next generation is released in 2010-2011.

Why? M$ gets many many AAA titles that PS3 owners will never being able to play, ever. It also gets superior multiplats the majority of the time. And most developers are Publicly complaining about the difficulty of programming PS3 games. Just the fact that there is a 3:14 developer ratio working on FC2 should speak volumes about what a piece of crap, poorly planned console the PS3 has turned out to be.

You do have to realize that the hype for the ps3 was simply pure hype. I'm not hating on the system cause its a solid system but the hype for the cell was only to draw in buyers to buy the system.

It's the same thing someone hyping their game as the next big thing since sliced bread. Its only to get people to buy their games.

I think the excllusives are showing that the PS3 is probably ore powerful, its just not as massive as what Xbox versus PS2 was.

Its more like Xbox verss Wii. Not a major difference.

Killzone 2 is amazing looking, MGS 4 looks amazing. Both games only graphical flaw is probably the textures.

Thats a bad analogy because the 360 version could be easier to port so it doesn't require as much effort. Still like i told someone already that this doesn't mean which version is better. It only means that its harder for them to port the game to the ps3 so they have to put much more effort into porting the game on the ps3 than the 360.

I agree. KZ2 is still a ways off. Hopefully they can make the textures look more detailed when it finally comes out.

This has more logic than a lem saying 360 > PS3 version, but the PS3 needs more devs working on it to unravel the architecture of the PS3's hardware, so i think it balances it out more.

Soon enough there won't be so much trouble developing for the PS3 anyway, and it will be interesting to see the level of quality produced then.

no...it simply means that they're having issues with getting the games engine to run as it should. The 360 can handle the game simply because the 360's hardware is very similar to that of a PC.

do you even have any idea about ANY of the topics you post about or do you just run your mouth hoping to sound smart?

I'd rather have 14 people working on the ps3 version than 3 people, it means the PS3 version will probably run better

Lets put it this way, who would be a better soccer team? A team of 14 players or 3? Nuff said

PS3 > 360 version

blackice1983

This has more logic than a lem saying 360 > PS3 version, but the PS3 needs more devs working on it to unravel the architecture of the PS3's hardware, so i think it balances it out more.

Soon enough there won't be so much trouble developing for the PS3 anyway, and it will be interesting to see the level of quality produced then.

hows that 9600gt treating you mustaf

It's great thanks :D.

Hey Sony! Ever hear of a little thing called "ease of development?" I hear that it helps with the AAA multiplats, and also with AAA exclusives. I also hear that it tends to help reduce the number of flops. Too bad you don't know much about that. At least you know how to trojan horse an unneeded media format to your loyal customters who would go to any length to buy your "dis-ease of development" console.

ermacness

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone needs to go back to the drawing board about their console, it is m$ and there's no denying it

Why? M$ gets many many AAA titles that PS3 owners will never being able to play, ever. It also gets superior multiplats the majority of the time. And most developers are Publicly complaining about the difficulty of programming PS3 games. Just the fact that there is a 3:14 developer ratio working on FC2 should speak volumes about what a piece of crap, poorly planned console the PS3 has turned out to be.

it might be poorly planned to you, but it still took total hardware sales in 07. Sounds like facts isn't in your playing field with you

Being the cheapest blu-ray player on the market doesn't hurt either. Almost every single PS3 owner I know bought it as a blu-ray player, with Madden or COD4 thrown in that they never play. Also, it sounds like proper grammar and sentence structure are not in your playing field "with you."

LOL.

Also, being that the 360 version will sell at least 2x what the PS3 version will sell (going by historical data on multiplats), this is a shining example of why the PS3 is a waste of time for devs. They literally have to pay over 3 times the number of employees to get hopefully the same (but not likely) result as the 360 version. They are spending a lot of money for something that will not even give them the rate of return that the 360 can offer in sales. They will likely work on it until it is "passable" and then get it off their hands, because time + more employees == expensive.

Cool, i did alot of research about deciding wether it was the better choice to the 8800gt, and i was tipped of that the 9600gt would be better for the future so i just went for it. They're both great cards though, you'll have fun playing any game on high settings with both cards.

they won't.

I mean... 158 people on the PC version. 17 on both consoles combined...

Clearly... this is a PC lead platform game.

this guy makes sense they are paying 5 times the amount in programming fee's for at most 75% of the 360's return and companys are all about money, if sony arn't careful thier console may become 'financially unviable for devs to program games for (aka sega dreamcast)

Actually I would have to say they both do. MS has some serious hardware issues and its a much higher rate than they are willing to admit. However they 360 is ALOT easier to develop for.

PS3, Sony forced Cell and bluray onto not only consumer but developers. Now we have a console that read so slow it has to DL part of the game on a HDD... that is lame. Also its a b*tch to develop for. Sure Killzone2 and MGS looks fantastic, but look how long it has taken them to come out with them, especially Killzone2... I would be willing to bet it has to do with the difficulty of development.

So IMO for a developer I would take ease of use over "supposedly better hardware". As a consumer, well I'll still stick with faulty hardware to play my games on, and continue to use that big shiny black box to watch blu-ray movies.

In the video that showed both the PS3 and XBox 360 versions the 360 version was far smoother.

Where does it say it's better on the 360?
At least they are making sure the PS3 is on par with the 360 version, as its easily capable.

And the link doesn't work.

they had fc2 up and running at ubidays. the ps3 version was nowhere in sight

Ummm theres a vid showing the PS3 and 360 version running. They look the same.
